Hacknet is an immersive, terminal-based hacking simulator for PC. Dive down a rabbit hoIe as you follow the instructions of a recently deceased hacker, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports.

Hacknet is a solid game and I had tons of fun with it. I found the game on a deal, quite cheap and, although I have never played something similar, it hooked me and I finished it in two sits. I don't know anything about hacking or programming but I am drawn to these topics in fiction, so if you like a good narrative about hacking then this game is good for that. You don't need to have any specialised knowledge and the mechanics of the game are pretty straightforward, not super complicated but fun enough. Some people in the review comments say the levels and how to go through them is a bit repetitive - I can understand the feeling but the progression is ok and, for the duration of the game, just enough. So, overall, I think the main strength of the game is its narrative, and the mechanics are good enough to make you feel like you are hacking, independently of how close is to the real thing. Definitely recommended!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Super easy to run and doesn't take up a lot of space. It has an easy interface and smoothes you in using real world commands and tools to complete hacking assignments. Be sure to make a note on everything you learn in a seperate file. If you do it like that the game won't be too overwhelming. The things you learn and the story are very entertaining for the price (i got it on a deal). Absolute recommender if you are into IT themed puzzling

As a console nerd myself the simulated networking and CLI is really cool. I wouldn't say its a "way to learn hacking" as some youtubers have. But it is the closest game I have ever played that really simulates hacking in any way. As someone who actually knows the terminal/console in and out and has a 25 foot long .bashrc with 5 feet of aliases in it I will say that learning the specific command line arguments the game uses were super frustrating because I kept trying to use tools that were not there or using syntax the game didn't like. In a way that's what it IS like for a beginner so that's pretty cool. Also, real hacking often drops you into minimalist server/controller environments where you also may not have tools you expect so overall I found it really dope. due props to the devs. see you on the high seas
