The majority of the cast is DLC. Maps are DLC. Colours are DLC. Can't training mode against characters you don't own. Oh and now there is a battle pass too. Genuinely such a huge disappointment; A fun game ruined by greed
The worst game to ever exist. its like if the axis powers leaders all engaged in toxic yaoi and this was what was birthed from it.
This game is a bloated, self-important corpse of what Guilty Gear used to be. Arc System Works took a series famous for its over-the-top rock-metal aesthetic, bizarre character designs, and unapologetic Japanese fighting game insanity, and injected it with the rancid poison of modern DEI ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The result? A roster that feels like it was assembled by a Twitter sensitivity reader instead of actual artists who understand cool. Let's start with the character designs. Testament? Turned into some non-binary mess with pronouns shoved down your throat via lore and voice lines that scream "notice me, I'm marginalized." Bridget, the beloved trap character that was peak subversive fun in older games, got fully "corrected" into a trans icon complete with chest binders and coming-out narratives. Because God forbid a character stays fun and ambiguous but nah, we gotta sterilize everything into sterile identity politics. The new characters are walking diversity quotas: ham-fisted attempts at representation that prioritize checking boxes over making memorable, badass fighters. Gone is the pure "this looks sick as hell" energy of classic Guilty Gear. Now it's "this checks the right oppression checkboxes." The story mode? Pretentious garbage wrapped in woke sermonizing. Endless lectures on tolerance, identity, and "found family" drivel that belongs in a Tumblr fanfic, not a game where people are supposed to be ripping each other apart with guitars and magic. The writing is so heavy-handed it makes you want to fast-forward through every cutscene. The old lore had style, mystery, and that signature Guilty Gear absurdity. Strive replaced it with sanitized, corporate-friendly messaging that treats players like they're attending a mandatory HR seminar between rounds. Gameplay might still be solid for some, but who cares when the entire package is dripping with contempt for its original audience? They sacrificed visual flair, personality, and soul on the altar of "inclusivity," turning a cult classic into another mainstream slop that blends in with every other game afraid of offending Reddit mods and Blue-haired activists. If you loved old Guilty Gear for being loud, weird, and proudly Japanese in its excess, Strive is a betrayal. It's not just bad, it's actively insulting. Woke trash through and through. Avoid it to send a message. Real fighting game fans deserve better than this neutered slop.
