I'll give this DLC a thumbs up because I appreciate that they're still working on the game. And Steam doesn't allow a "mid" review so.... While overall the DLC has many flaws, I like the QoL and the new mechanics (like the altar and awakened items) the DLC added to the game. It's also only 20 bucks so even if you don't like the new content you still get quite a lot out of this. However, as an expansion, this is just not it. I sucked up all the lore from the previous expansions and the base game but during my playthrough of this DLC, I couldn't care less about the story. It just didn't click with me. It felt boring and forgettable. Many reviews mention the increased difficulty. Personally, I had zero issues and I didn't notice a spike in difficulty. I could beat the whole game with my fresh lvl 100, including Celestial superbosses. No gear farming needed. On the contrary, I think the game is still too easy. A few select bosses can actually kill you while the rest of the game is still just a walkover. Players are just super bad and can't dodge the single mechanic that can kill you (Sunder) or they're still building full dps and can't be bothered to actually move out of danger. My main gripe with this expansion is the empty world. Grim Dawn was always pretty straight forward and had high density of enemies. Most quests were done automatically while pushing through the campaign, as long as you explored the areas properly. This DLC is the contrary. Lots of backtracking, you're forced to revisit older content, do boring riddles and grinds to progress and the same annoying bird enemies are in every single zone. While they claimed that Asterkaarn is the biggest DLC yet, it definitely doesn't feel like it. Barely any new enemy types (a lot of reskinned mobs too), huge empty zones without substance and the new roguelike dungeons aren't even in the game yet. Not sure how this DLC took so much time to make but I guess they only had a small team working on it. If they ever start working on GD2, I hope they take inspiration from the base game and the previous DLCs. This one is not it. I also don't think that the DLC as a whole is salvagable with patches but I hope that at least the roguelike dungeons they want to add in the future will be fun.

This game should be called "Summoner's Dawn". Apart from the summoner class, new class builds that gain popularity are quickly nerfed, even for classes whose stats are far lower than high-intensity builds. The difficulty-related benefit bonuses for ascension are completely disproportionate to the difficulty, and the equipment stats are completely unbalanced. Either the development team doesn't play the game themselves, or they play with cheats
Just a solid addition to the game. I'm not a big fan of the new Mastery, but the content is great. I think the progression of the new content is a little awkward. If you like Grim Dawn, then this is worth picking up just to have more of it.
No esperes mas y cómpralo, allá te voy 5000 horas! Puntuación 100/10! :P
This dlc stink d*ck. Absolute horrible pacing during the new campaign that force you too go play the two other DLCs right before the final boss of this one, which completly kill the momentum. Quests are confusing as hell, i've never had problem to find where to go in Grim Dawn, level design was pretty much always guiding you to the right area if you were just exploring a bit. In this expansion, i've been lost on were to go, and what was the next story quest more than once. Finding the NPCs to finish a quest in this ginormous map when you can't see them on your map if you're not 10m away is so fun, thank you (especially in the dlc main hub in which there is like 40 npc icons). Anyway, the list goes on. I don't know what happened Crate, but ♥♥♥♥, this DLCs is insufferable.
This DLC is great.
Если честно, то не очень. Огромные локации, много беготни туда сюда, оптимизация ужасная. Система крафта сделана крайне неудачно. Из плюсов музыка, она реально хороша)
Review after clearing the map of this new DLC in Ultimate. I haven't tried the new Ascendant mode nor used the Altar. I will not comment on the v1.3.0 patch since it is a separate topic. Pros: - The environments are great looking as usual. However, it is mostly nature/fauna with not a bunch of architectures. Forgotten Gods DLC environmental design still on top for me. - Monsters animations is more varied than in the previous DLCs. This is a very nice improvement. - The music is good. I don't get bothered by it over time and it is what is more important for me. They even went with using a real orchestra for it and I command Crate for having gone to that extent. Cons: - I was expecting more underground stuff. There is not much and their area is quite small. In Forgotten Gods we had Temple of Osir, etc... at least ten tombs/dungeons with some of them taking at least 30 min to explore/clear 100%. We are far from that in FoA. I know they are planning to add two new skeleton key dungeons and I hope they will be as big as Port Valbury in base game. - There is areas block by ice and a bastion I can't enter in. Even did a quest that brings me to a "iced blocked" passage, there is a star on the map, but cannot advance that quest. I think the DLC lacks indicators. In previous DLCs I had a text "Blocked by Aetherials" for example when trying to enter a dungeon locked behind a quest. - Some monster sounds are not done great imo. Some of them I can hear the human behind making those noise/sentences and it feels a bit amateur. Whereas I never witness that in the rest of the game. Summary: This DLC took a lot of years to make. I think this set the expectations of players high (including myself). I was expecting more content honestly (like mentionned, more underground stuff). I know Crate is a small studio and I have the impression that a really small team worked on this DLC over the years and maybe not always full time. That said, I am glad that they decided to add new stuff after all these years (I command them for that). Grim Dawn is my most played/loved game and I appreciate to be able to discover new area/content. Can't wait for the two new dungeons. In conclusion, I would recommand getting this DLC. I think Crate set a reasonnable price for it. On discount it is totally worth it.
For an expansion that was never supposed to happen, it's actually fantastic (and there's more to come). As expected, Fangs of Asterkarn doesn't build on the main plot, so you won't see more of Ulgrim or Creed, unfortunately. It's more of a side plot in the way that Forgotten Gods was, and should be approached as such. It probably would've been better received if it came between Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods since it fits better there from a continuity standpoint. The best way to appreciate the expansion is likely with a new character, approaching the content by doing the main campaign, Ashes of Malmouth, Fangs of Asterkarn and finishing with Forgotten Gods. The content offered at launch is roughly comparable to what is offered in Forgotten Gods. While Fangs of Asterkarn also offers a great deal of additional customization through item manipulation, potion customization and the Ascension Altar, these features seem better suited for progression or min/maxing while working on endgame content. The new features are more supplemental to existing endgame content than endgame content itself. The real endgame feature offered by Fangs of Asterkarn is Ascendant Mode. While endgame in Grim Dawn was previously limited to either running the Crucible or Shattered Realm--which isn't something everyone found particularly appealing, Ascendant Mode allows players to continue playing the core game past Ultimate difficulty for greater rewards (and a higher challenge). Simply put, Fangs of Asterkarn is a great expansion, and with two additional rogue-like dungeons coming to it in the future as free content updates, it's bound to get even better. Many of the player criticisms are rooted in unrealistic or uninformed individual expectations, not the content itself.
10/10, the best expansion by far. The main story and the other 2 expansions have some problems that simply aren't in Fangs of Asterkarn. The main story has an issue with focus, there is none here. There is a threat in Asterkarn, and you are solely devoted to taking care of it. Ashes of Malmouth has the issue of not fleshing out the titular city enough, Malmouth feels a bit like an afterthought. Asterkarn is the focus of Fangs of Asterkarn. The people, wildlife, and conflicts of the region make it feel alive. Forgotten Gods has an issue of a story that seems to come out of nowhere that seems like a filler episode in a show, Fangs of Asterkarn is a direct conflict with one of the main antagonists of the base game's story, and expands on their origins and lore greatly. If you are going to play Grim Dawn, you SHOULD have Fangs of Asterkarn.
