The stylings are there for a great game. The music, CSPN presentations, and menus are all great. To be fair though, that's really all there is at the moment. I won't be playing this a ton right now but i will be checking back every update to see how things have progressed. If the dev focuses some more on the in-depth sim and roster management parts I really think they'll have something special in the football sim realm with this one.
while this game is far from finished (it just released in early access 2 days ago as of writing this), the foundation it's laying for the future is INCREDIBLE. if you're at all interested in this game from the trailer and store page, i'd recommend buying it while it's $10 because i would be shocked if a game with this level of presentation and (hopefully) depth stayed $10 forever. as of right now, the gameplay is pretty bare bones. however, i expect the game to be WAY more fleshed out in the near future as there are a lot of menus & mechanics shown in the game that we just don't have access to yet due to it being VERY early access. the future is very bright!

Gridiron Masters '98 - Early Access Review - 7/10 Recommended tldr: Approach this game as a coach prestige sim rather than a team dynasty and you'll have a great time. Fight that instinct and you'll frustrate yourself. PROS Aesthetic- The late 90s visuals are genuinely well executed. The menu presentation and CSPN broadcast segments create a mood that's hard to find in this genre. It doesn't feel like nostalgia for its own sake, there are deliberate decisions being made that feel intentional. Team Pool Size- The roster of the teams is kept smaller than you might expect, but it works in the game's favor. Conference rivals feel meaningful, each program has an identity, and the college football landscape feels relatable rather than anonymous. Recruiting- Player names feel distinct rather than procedurally generic. Small detail, but it goes a long way toward making the game come alive. CONS Coaching Carousel- Coordinator and player turnover at season's end can hit harder than expected. Build your roster and staff with the assumption that you'll lose someone important, because eventually you will. Loyalty to a program can quietly work against you over time. Path to Winning- Success can feel like random variance rather than the logical payoff of good preparation. The scouting system deals in opinions rather than grades, which is thematically interesting but can make roster building feel opaque. I found myself scrambling some seasons to have enough replacements for seniors graduating or transfers moving on. Native Imagery- Worth knowing before you buy. Adding Native American players in the game would go a long way towards offsetting the discomfort here. Overall A charming coaching sim that captures something college sports games haven't in a long time. It needs more time in the oven, but the foundation is genuinely worth supporting. 7/10.
The UI visuals are top tier. The game is in its early stages but the vison is there. Ive followed the development for a few years now and this dev is very responsive to feed back. I have high confidence that this game will be great once its completed.
Game is GOATED if you love Football
I'm over five hours in and idk hitting sim game just feels like a shot in the dark if your gonna win or lose. No choices I make seem to matter, abilities don't seem to matter, coaching staff doesn't seem to matter. It just feels random and that just kills it for me. I want to feel like the choice I make are doing something and that's just not the case. Just becomes a mouse clicking experience after awhile.
definitely fun and I enjoy how the new world feature creates a replay ability and even different scenarios. overall if you like management games with retro game feel definitely worth it
Fun game the only thing for me is that generating audio is stuck at 0% even left it on overnight to see if it would DL, still stuck at 0% and unable to advance any further until the generation is complete.
Such a great concept! The game is really coming along nicely. It shows a lot of potential and considering the care and effort the developer is putting into the project, I have no doubt that the game is going to continue getting better!
such a fun game.
