cloud save, chinese come on my baby?
I think Gorescript is a ok game that gets dragged down with some flaws. Mouse delay is prevalent without changing resolution, gameplay and movement is unsatisfying compared to most other 90s FPS type games, and some annoying affects that can't be turned off are some that I noticed in my 20 mins of playtime. A free web version of this game exists and I think it's good and lives up to the expectations of a browser game (It also fixes some issues). Tldr: get Doom because it's better.
Gorescript, developed and published by Sergiu Bucur, is a retro-inspired first-person shooter that proudly channels the spirit of 1990s arena FPS classics while incorporating modern refinements to enhance accessibility and replayability. From the moment the game begins, it becomes clear that its design philosophy is rooted in speed, precision, and relentless combat. Rather than pursuing cinematic storytelling or expansive open-world exploration, Gorescript focuses on delivering tightly constructed levels packed with enemies, secrets, and high-intensity firefights. The result is an experience that feels both nostalgic and deliberately streamlined for players who appreciate pure, mechanics-driven action. The gameplay structure centers around 18 handcrafted levels that emphasize exploration as much as combat. While enemy encounters are frequent and aggressive, progression often depends on locating hidden switches, discovering secret passages, and collecting key items scattered throughout the map. Secrets are not merely optional bonuses; in many cases, uncovering them is essential to advancing. This design encourages thorough exploration and rewards attentiveness, echoing the maze-like complexity of classic shooters. The pacing strikes a balance between corridor-based skirmishes and more open arenas where players must manage enemy swarms while navigating vertical spaces and environmental hazards. Combat is fast and responsive, requiring constant movement to survive. Standing still is rarely an option, as enemies attack in numbers and often from multiple directions. The arsenal includes a mix of ranged and melee weapons, each offering distinct tactical advantages. Weapon switching becomes a core skill, especially at higher difficulty levels where resource management and positioning are critical. The challenge escalates gradually, and the game’s multiple difficulty modes cater to a wide spectrum of players. Casual participants can enjoy a forgiving experience, while hardcore enthusiasts can opt for punishing modes that demand near-perfect execution and memorization of enemy patterns. Visually, Gorescript adopts a voxel-based aesthetic that reinforces its retro identity. Environments and enemies are constructed from blocky, colorful geometry that evokes the early days of 3D shooters without directly replicating them. This visual style is not only nostalgic but also functional, maintaining clarity even during chaotic firefights. Explosions of voxel debris when enemies are defeated add a dynamic and visceral quality to combat, enhancing the game’s kinetic energy. While it does not aim for high-end graphical realism, the deliberate stylization supports readability and fast-paced action. The audio design complements the gameplay with energetic music tracks that sustain momentum throughout each level. The soundtrack amplifies the urgency of combat without overwhelming the player, while weapon sounds and environmental effects provide satisfying feedback. Though minimalist compared to large-scale productions, the audio elements effectively reinforce the arcade-like atmosphere. Replayability is one of Gorescript’s strongest features. Global leaderboards encourage competitive players to refine their runs and aim for higher scores, while permadeath and special challenge modes introduce additional layers of intensity. These systems reward mastery and experimentation, giving players reason to revisit levels and optimize performance. The compact nature of the campaign ensures that repeated playthroughs remain manageable rather than exhausting. Ultimately, Gorescript succeeds as a focused homage to classic FPS design while integrating modern conveniences such as adjustable difficulty, controller support, and polished user interface elements. Its emphasis on speed, exploration, and skill-based combat creates a compelling experience for fans of traditional arena shooters. Although its structure remains rooted in retro sensibilities and may feel repetitive over extended sessions, its clarity of vision and dedication to pure action make it a standout example of indie FPS craftsmanship. Rating: 7/10
This game is exactly as I remember it (well, the demo anyways) 6-7 years ago on the chrome web store. It's a true classic that lives up to the likes of it's predecessors such as Doom and Quake, with a good voxel flair. the combat is paced well, the weapons never feel too powerful or weak, and the few "overpowered" weapons have reasonable drawbacks that make them all the better.
Best game I have never finished!
This game is great, i have 3 things to say, 2 are positive, and 1 is... questionable. First 2. 1:This game is fun and challenging. 2:When you DIE, you may forget the positions of hostiles, which creates a small amount of tension, but when its there, the tension will grow. 3:Sensitivity is wack, near impossible to get the item on The Pentagram without getting killed by The Bone Crusher (thats my name for it), and i figured out i was a dumb**s, i was at the end of The Pentagram, and i thought about the gap size at the goal vs where you learn strafe run, the moment i turned there was a button. im dumb 100/10
Gotta be the most underated fps game. i love this game. it is what made me relise the shooters canbe more than fortnite and cod clones. the tron/cyberpunk/system shock asthetic is awesome, combined with the epic gameplay, makes one well worth it package.
