Giana Sisters 2D

This is a good game. I remember playing the original as a child on my Commodore 64 and was so glad to see it as a remake for my modern system

Giana Sisters 2D feels like a Mario game but kind of harder in a way. I enjoyed it but sometimes i did get upset. 8/10

A good platformer. The only bad thing about the game is that the early levels are too easy.

the music cuts off weirdly, the sprites jitter around a lot, and honestly the gameplay is just kinda boring.

TL;DR, not recommended, its a bad port, and it has pretty noticeable bugs that have gone unfixed for over a decade. If you absolutely want to play this, try to get the DS version instead. Longer version: First, the hitboxes are all wrong. Everything seems to be using oversized/misplaced square hitboxes regardless of the sprite shape itself. Meaning flames, spikes and enemies can kill you without touching you, and any precision platforming sections are ruined by your character bumping into invisible boundaries. Enemy hitboxes are so off, that sometimes you may successfully kill an enemy, yet die at the same time. Also some enemies can shoot fireballs even after dead, and the fireballs can go through solid floors. Second, the level select just doesn't work. Many times it will force you to repeat a previous level when trying to select the next one. Eg., I had to play Level 2-2 -> 2-2 -> 2-4. I never got to play 2-3 but it still got marked as completed. I will never be able to properly finish the game, because every time I tried to start level 9-2 (the last one), it just forced me to repeat 9-1 over and over again. I did get the achievement for completing island 9, but 9-2 still shows as not started in my map. Also I didn't get the achievement for island 8, which doesn't make sense since you can only start 9 after finishing 8. At least some of the levels are ported incorrectly. For level 8-1, I honestly had to look for a video of the DS version, cause it just didn't make any sense at all. Turns out they misplaced one of the platforms in the bottom path, which causes an impossible jump, and in the upper path, the enemies shoot 3-4 times faster than in the DS version. The controls are rather unresponsive. Sometimes my character just wouldnt jump despite repeated button presses, or would stop moving suddenly, or would suddenly invert its orientation and start moving in the opposite direction. The bubble controls are even worse. In levels with rainy weather effects, the rain sfx is so loud it almost entirely mutes the background music. Its a shame cause the music is actually nice. Finally, I played through the entire retro mode, but had to do it in one sitting, because its impossible to tell where you left off. Completed levels don't get marked in any way, and while moving from one level to the other, the ingame indicator is bugged. At least 4-5 of the different levels I went through were all named "Level 1". In the end, if you really want to play this game, try getting the DS version instead.
