This game currently has mixed reviews which feels right to me. Its not a bad game but its also not spectacular. Its not going to stand out in the many sorting games coming out. This one has the same issue I had with Supermarket Chaos in that the actual level is boring to look at. Boring neutral walls, boring neutral floor, no fun posters on the walls (this is supposed to be a video game store, make it look fun?). Also if you look outside the glass doors the world looks dead-basic street with other stores, no npcs walking by, no cars, nothing. Its a small thing but I think it would make it much better overall, especially since all 3 levels in this game are the same. exact. store. Between that and the similarities in the video games, going between levels feels like you finished cleaning up something and someone came along and dumped everything on the floor all over again, which doesnt feel great... I have to make note that there is a game in this called "heavens gate something something" which feels weird considering thats a cult in the USA that unalived themselves but ...it clearly was made elsewhere so its fine. It takes FOREVER to get any skills as they are based on completed games, not how many games you have sorted and its really hard to pick out similar ones when they are all over the floor, so you end up having to just deal with default everything (in each level since they reset each time) for the first hour or so. I don't really mind the skills not being magical but only being able to pick up 5 games at the start sucks each time. Despite all this, I finished the whole game and did for the most part enjoy it, just know that it takes a bit more effort than most of these.
I'm writing this as someone who doesn't care about AI. I personally don't mind if a game uses AI. I've also played a dozen of these organizing games, and I have fully finished this one. I still don't recommend it. It's got a lot of issues. The main one being that this game felt like it was built around the 16-bit level and then added 8-bit and CD after the fact. There's piles in the 16 bit, and more structure to the mess - and mess placement wasn't something I thought I cared about or thought much effort went into in these games until I played this one. In the CD level, the floor is literally covered in cases. You can't see the floor at all and there's no piles, it's just a blanket of cases. Which isn't super terrible but it adds to my next issue which was the lack of diversity. This game is the hardest organizing game I've ever played, largely because you aren't looking at the item itself - you're looking at the name the UI gives you when you hover your cursor over it. It is a sea of yellow cases that all look the same with no real collecting other than reading if it's [action] or [adventure] at the start of the title. Your eyes start to glaze over, and you get a headache from reading all the words. Which leads onto my last point - the game's designs are too similar. They're nice, sure, but there's so many purple covers, for example - and no way to zoom in on the shelf. There's also no way to tell if the game has been placed on two separate spaces, so you don't have enough space for a title, and the game offers you very little input while you start at very similar art for 15 minutes. Sometimes I even screenshotted the shelf and started crossing it off on another monitor because I just couldn't see it and the game offered me no feedback. The artwork is cute, yes, but it's not good when it's used like this. Not to mention the covers are reused in each level, but for example something that was Action is now in Adventure. I wish if they reused art, they kept it the same genre. It added to the confusion. On the plus side, this game was so hard, tedious and annoying that I am now actually better at organizing games in general because of it. Other games in the genre are easy, including Cellar Keeper which I criticized for the bottles looking too similar, but it was still more varied than this. So you could be a better player because of it, I suppose.
No power kinda makes it boring, im not against the idea but all the games look the same in a big pile of sepia. i tried to enjoy it but i cant. it runs smooth but it feels empty.
Game is good but skill points don't seem to be working, sorted over 100 games and still no skill points
The game runs smooth and is simple to pick up and lose time in. Ive personally played quite a few of these sorting games and I normally feel satisfaction in the game loop with no issues to speak of. But the flaws in this one crept in and made it an annoyance to play after a while. Here's why. You do earn skill points to spend on QOL improvements such as a larger inventory and faster walking speed. However, you only earn these skill points upon completing a stack of five games of the same title. There is no good way of sorting through the large piles of games to find matching titles, so it can take a long time before you earn any points. I would have preferred earning points after shelving a certain number of games in increments, so you dont spend half of the level without any unlocked skills. My other bigger gripe is the art. Other reviews have stated that this was the best part of the game, I found it the weakest. Its all AI generated, and not particularly great at hiding that fact. If you spend more than a second looking at cover art, youll see all the flaws. For one example, one of the sports titles depicts a group of people doing various olympic sports. One man in the BG is pole vaulting. His back is turned to us, and his head is completely turned to face us as well, along with a leg that is not fully formed. Its even worse. It looks like the same AI prompts were used for many of the titles, so there is little variation in style. It just looks like someone typed in "Road with cars driving to the left in neon colors" and spat out a few different AI responses. All of the humans are in the same style that is commonly found in AI generated slop, like ripped straight from Studio Ghibli. Doesn't matter if the game is supposed to be fantasy from the 80s or Sci-fi from the 90s. It all looks super similar which is disappointing and uninspired. The names of all the games are similar and unimaginative, almost like those were also generated from AI. I could go on about it, but you get my drift. While the game serves its purpose and is not the worst I've seen, I cannot in good conscience recommend it for the AI laziness alone. The genre has exploded recently and there are plenty others to choose from that did not heavily rely on AI to make it.
