I played this game with absolutely no context who was behind it, but after looking into it/watching the video they made about developing the game, I have some new new music to explore. Regardless, I speak on this game as someone who had never heard of Rob Scallon or anyone associated. If you love rhythm games, you need to play this. The music, the visuals, the mechanics; they all work in glorious harmony to create a perfect game, if you'll pardon the pun. The animations are cute and creative, every single thing in the world is musical to some degree, and the combat mechanics are both fun and rewarding. I played the game a fair bit past 100%ing it, if that's an indicator of how much fun I had. The story is also cute and engaging. I got a little confused trying to figure out where to go next in the last area of the game, but nothing genuinely frustrating. My only real gripe aside from the bugs was that there wasn't enough game to play! For some, though, that may be a boon; it's short and sweet. As far as the bugs go, some freezes and occasional controller glitches, but nothing too game breaking. I was usually able to fix the controller issues by swapping between mouse input and controller input until it was fixed, but I always had to fix the freezes by force closing the game from the Steam Client. Game overs don't have a strong penalty other than respawning every enemy, so having to force close the game and restart it doesn't force you to backtrack too much, and redoing combat sections is honestly kind of a treat with this game as you get to listen to more of the music. Annoying, but not frustrating. The game also could have benefited from some kind of practice mode or perhaps a tutorial booklet, but experimenting with the mechanics on some of the weaker combat encounters was fun enough I can forgive that sin. There is an area in the beginning (a sound booth) that I suspect might have been intended to be a practice range in an older vision of the game but was scrapped due to time/budget constraints.

Thisis a very fun turn-based game you get to explore, find upgrades, battle bosses, the game has it all! Suoer created, because it is fully music-based. Kudos to the developers and if you have not heard of Rob Scallon yet go and check out his content!
This is the most inventive and creative RPG Ive ever played on par with Morrowind levels of passion. I've been a fan of Rob Scallon since my freshman year, and I have to say you don't need to be a fan of his to enjoy this game. This is such a crazy game that has so much soul and suffice to say, amazing music. You don't need to be a musician, you don't need to be a fan, you just gotta enjoy playing games. As vague as this review is, trust me its one of the most fun games I've ever played.
as a guitar player, and a fan of rob scallon... this game impressed me SO MUCH. the attention to detail man, beautiful soundtrack as well, great game. 10/10 would love a DLC or two or three or four
If you like music (in any way) and pleasant experiences, try it. It's not an enormous game, but it can really get your attention. The game has a good pace, is not hard at all (but can be a little challenging in some parts), has good turn-based mechanics and a fun aspect of "building" your stack of powers through the riffs, pedals e etc. My favorite part for sure are the QTEs. The devs did a really good job matching time signatures with it, and you get "compensated" for landing them, in battle. You can really see Rob's persona through all of it, so, give a shot.
Fretless does an incredible job weaving music into every part of the game. Character names, dialogue, enemies, areas, and even the little details are packed with clever musical references. You can tell the developers had a ton of fun building a world around the theme, and there’s always another reference to catch. The battle system is fun and satisfying, with enough strategy to keep combat engaging without becoming tedious. But the real star is the soundtrack—it’s an absolute banger and fits the game perfectly. Although the game was a bit short for $15 I enjoyed every bit of the 6 hours I put into it. 10/10
fun :)
