EDIT 13 Jun While I applaud the fast response to the situation, my review will stay as negative for two reasons: [olist] [*]It's not counted in the overall review score, as I received Forts for free many years ago [*]This review was made to showcase the attitude of EarthWork to the broader audience of Steam's users, not to be petty. [/olist] The game itself is great. Despite being over 9 years old at this point, the physics-based RTS gameplay still holds up today. The developers? Not so much. Major content creator Cloud was banned for 2 months, had their trusted host status and content creator badge revoked, and was removed from the Forts testing server. Why, you may ask? Because Cloud shared the dev build of Firebird with 2 friends in a way that: [olist] [*]Would not let them play without Cloud hosting a game [*]Would not let them further distribute the build [/olist] I've never seen a developer crash out harder than EarthWork here. Cloud, as a content creator, was given a key to create content, and told to not "share it publicly". Privately sharing the dev build in a non-harmful way to create said content, which is what Cloud was given the key for in the first place, resulted in Cloud being unable to create Forts content for several months. But hey, at least you got your attention, right?
I used to have a positive opinion of the developers, but the situation surrounding Cloud_ completely changed my view. Giving a content creator access to a new DLC and then punishing them for making content about it is absurd. What makes it look even worse is that the decision was only reversed after a strong negative reaction from the community. For me, the issue is not whether Cloud_ was banned or unbanned. The real problem is that this situation creates an impression of inconsistency and poor treatment of the very people who help promote and support the game. When a decision is only changed because of public backlash, it's hard to have confidence in the developers' judgment. The game itself may be good, but the way the team handled this situation has seriously damaged my trust in them.
Scummy devs, while the game is fun, I cannot recommend anyone get this games after the stunt the devs have been pulling, banning content creators for doing what they are supposed too??? devs feel very scummy and pathetic. For more infomation look at the statments made by Cloud_ and OddBawZ
*edit* I changed the review to postive bcs the devs reverted their decision and i want to support people that can take and improve upon criticism. Great job! (old review) The devs did a pretty bad publicity stunt. No this is not "review bombing" but removing game access for a content creator that DID not intended bad faith that did free advertisement for your game is quite an interesting move.
Devs responded to community backlash really well, shows how goated these devs really are, we all make mistakes but only the best say sorry and fix it. Also great game
I figured I would leave a positive review for this game since it's fun and cuz my friend left a negative review for the game after I beat him in one shot after he insisted he was amazing at the game.
Hard to support a game when the devs actively push away the people trying to help it grow.
Unban my man Cloud he didn't do nothing.
Rome is a chud
great pr stunt
