For The Warp

The core game is solid and I like the art a lot. Seeing your build come together in spaceship form is cool, BUT everything is much slower than it should in the game: movement, cards, menus, ... Everything feels unresponsive. Also, you get a good idea of what your possible build will be in a run, and most of the cards you win won't help you at all. I ended up skipping 90% of the cards in my latest runs, which I find is a bit extreme (in other words, there are probably a bit too many cards that are trash in every run). This combined with the speed issue makes end runs feel like a slog. The latter point is not a huge issue (there are quite a few diverse builds that can still work, like mass draw+boost + capacitor cannon, shield + shield discharge or damage to all enemies when shields are overloaded. Even drones can work), but the slow menu/animation speed turns this into a mild recommendation from me.

Do you like deck building games? Do you like games set in a space setting? Do you like a game that you can kick back your feet onto your desk and just click away at your destiny, then FTW is for you! Yes, I feel like this is a, dare I say it, a reskin of Slay the Spire, but what the heck, I love chich'n nuggets with lots of different sauces. Void sauce anyone... Nuggies aside, what you get is a solid deck-builder with interesting cards, several different ships (These are similar to character classes), and a mission to traverse across several sectors. There are a few secrets to solve, ships to unlock, equipment to find and install, and plenty of "Pew, Pew, Pew" to be had as you go. Get this one on sale and if you are looking to boost your deck building collection.

For The Warp completely surprised me with how addictive and satisfying its roguelike deck-building was. Every run feels fresh thanks to the clever mix of enemies, events, and map routes, and the game strikes a great balance between challenge and experimentation. My absolute favourite ship was the Arcane, it just clicks perfectly if you enjoy big, flashy damage combos. With the right cards, it’s easy to ramp up to absurd levels of burst damage, and the way the Arcane ship can rapidly recover shields keeps the momentum going during long fights. When everything lines up, you feel like an unstoppable engine of chaos, melting enemies. Runs feel quick, rewarding, and consistently fun, and the art and music set a great atmosphere for hopping from sector to sector. If you love deck builders with personality, smart synergies, and plenty of room for creative builds, For The Warp is absolutely worth picking up. Highly recommended! 🚀

I love games like this. However, I despise this one. I think the graphics and concept are decent enough, but where the game really falls apart isn't the "grind" it's the "slough". You will fight a ton of battles.. doing so enhances your deck. However, the battles take a ton of time, are unimaginative and highly repetitive. In my first run through I fought 160 different ships. It was a terrible experience.

This is a very pretty, VERY buggy game, and it doesn't look like the devs are coming back for it.

Little unfair but you can setup your ship with starting equipment by editing your save. Love the art. I got it on sale so it was more than worth the price I paid.
