this is the absolute worst game in gaming history, playing it feels like your getting a vasectomy while sucking monkey nuts whilst a donkey is kicking your balls. 10/10
"We are removing For Honor from the Linux platform to ensure a safer environment for our players as we cannot meaningfully deploy protection on this platform. This means that For Honor will no longer be playable on Steam Deck starting September 10th. We will continue to investigate different ways to improve our anti-cheat with the possibility of reopening the platform in the future." Leaving a negative review until Linux/SteamOS players can play the game we bought and paid for again. "Cheating" is not a valid excuse for locking a platform out of your game (that was already officially supported!) because you can't run kernel-level spyware on it. Do better.
This game has the best fundamental fight mechanics ive ever seen but its ruined every year by the devs who have never seen a balanced character in their life
So Ubisoft just blocked Linux/SteamOS users from playing the game in order to "create a more fair environment for players". A small price to pay for... no reason? Lets get the facts and stats for Ubisoft. Stat: Ubisoft makes the most pants ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid decision 110% of the time, with a 10% margin of error. Fact: Little known indie gem developer, Rockstar Games, Inc., once solved all cheating in Grand Theft Auto Online by banning those Linux perverts from touching the game. Stat Fact: Ever since Halo 2, we know that 100% of cheaters are on Linux, as only Linux users can harness the power of lag switches. Fact Stat: If you want to make a venn diagram of people who play For Honor and people who play on Linux, just remember how to draw an infinity symbol. Sometimes we forget that Ubisoft makes more bad decisions than it does bad games. But at least Ubisoft is just like us and forgets stuff too! Like how they forgot to include the game files for Might and Magic 3 and forgot to include audio in Division 2!
Woe to all ye who enter here. Turn back for ye sanity. When I entered, I expected a fun medieval fighting game with a revolutionary combat system that included full guards and neat parry animations. What I got was an abusive relationship where I enjoy playing a dude with a katana and then four burly men decide to swing their axes at me all at once and I'm stunlocked until they pick me up over their shoulder and toss me into a pit like the movie 300. I thought I was safe booting up For Honor today. I put on some music, have a laugh as I get into the first lobby. Four Berserkers. "It's okay!" I think to myself. "Two of them are bots! Surely I'll just wait them out!" Wo' to ye, my innocent self. For lo and behold, a Virtuosa. "It's fine! I can deal with a Virtuosa!" Rep three hundred. But wait, there's more. My tale of sorrow is not yet done. This game haunts all those who once enjoyed playing it. I lie down, try to rest, and I swear I can hear "INCREDIBILIS!" from my closet. "What's that!? Who's there!" I proclaim, getting up from my bed. I open the closet, nothing. Then I hear from down the hall "BANDIR SHIRAFNI!" And I hide under the covers of my safe haven for fear of the short-cannibal-woman-who-eats-you. Then as I drift off, listening to my calming music, I get that strange sensation of falling and jolting awake- but I'm not falling. I hear "MISERUM! AD MORTEM INUMICUS!" 10/10. i'm still bad at the game.
The game won't run on Linux (including SteamOS) from September 10. Ubi$oft is pretending Linux is the problem for their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 9 year old game. Such an incompetent anti-consumer company that is. Well, happy playtime with your daily 5k users.
After all of these years they are now discontinuing Linux support so you can no longer play it on a Steam Deck either
I think if a different studio had made this game, say Valve or Respawn, this could've been a very very good game. Unfortunately for us, Ubislop made this game. It's been 9 years, nearly 10, and the servers are still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. 100% chance at least one person will randomly disconnect from the game every dominion match you play, which is the only gamemode most people play cause everything else takes too long. Duels are cool, but takes like 2 minutes to cue for like 5 30 second matches. You'd think with how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the servers are, they'd at least add a reconnect feature, but no they're busy making new busted characters for the whales to buy. The combat, when it works, works. It's fun, it's dynamic, it's cool, and it's something you can always get better at. Even when I lose a fight if its close I feel happy. But as I said earlier the newer paid characters will just always 100% of the time be more busted than the other heroes. Its really annoying playing interesting characters that unfortunately will often lose you the game, and the importance of character choice is 10x more important in 4v4 and teamfights. I hate Ubisoft more than any other studio, mostly because of how they handled this game. On PC and Xbox I'm like Rep 300 and I really would like to give this game a good review. But it doesn't deserve one, and any new players should find something else to get into. If I could go back in time I'd be like that Interstellar bookcase scene screaming at my younger self to never download this game.
in 2026 unless you have a veteran player guiding you, showing you the ropes and doing matches with you...just do not even bother. This game has the same issues that MechWarrior online has, another game I think is awesome in theory. The issue is after a PvP game has been out for 10+ years, the only people left are some of the best at the game. There's not much room for a new player that doesn't know every character and how to deal with them (just like knowing all the mechs in MWO) they're just going to lose every fight and feel frustrated and have no fun. Some matches are such a steamroll it's easy to just feel hopeless. Matchmaking is not great, because there are so few people playing it's the same vets over and over. New players get chased off and the downward spiral continues. Personally I have a veteran friend to guide me, and it's been fun and all but without that I would have already uninstalled. For that reason I have to not recommend this to anyone. Even in the best conditions being a new player in For Honor 2026 is a vertical climb of an experience.
I genuinely loved this game but i've just been informed by the overlords at ubisoft that im a part of the cheating problem by using linux and will never be able to play the game again. i was genuinely excited for the next battlepass and the new knight hero but i guess they dont want my money. ubisoft i sincerly hope you choke and die on the flaccid ♥♥♥♥ of your own greed.
