I love this game a lot, it's my favorite fighting game and I've been playing it off and on since the beginning, originally on uplay and wound up buying it here on sale just to have it in my library. After Ten Years of supporting this game, to suddenly be barred from playing it is laughably depressing. I won't throw the same kind of vitriol a lot of others are putting out, but I will say if your anti cheat "solution" requires you axe an entire platform it really might be worth re-evaluating
Linux/SteamOS players will be banned starting 10. September 2026 since Ubisoft cannot figure out how to implement their anti-cheat properly. It's kinda like removing the license to play. Thats just whack. So instead of recommending this game that I kinda enjoyed, this will be a negative review since I won't be able to play it again.
Genuinely one of the best melee combat systems ever put in a video game — stances, feints, guard breaks, reading your opponent's next move, the 1v1 duels here have a depth basically nothing else in the genre touches. When it's you against one other person who actually knows what they're doing, it's incredible. The problem is the game is rarely just that. Most modes throw you into 4v4s where "honor" means getting jumped by three vikings while you're mid-parry against a fourth — there is no real counter to a gank, there never was, and the community's answer to complaints about it has been "skill issue" for going on a decade now. Matchmaking also has zero mercy for anyone new. Recommended for the dueling modes specifically; go in expecting the rest of the game to actively hate you.
It should be illegal to disable a game for paying customers without so much as a refund. Valve should expand refund coverage to cases like this. Dear Ubisoft. I won't forget this, and will think long and hard before ever handing over a single cent to you in the future.
like the game, don't like the decision to remove linux support
Please bring Linux support back 🐧⚔️ This is really painful for me to write because I genuinely love For Honor. I've been playing this game for years and have put a huge amount of time into it. I switched to Linux Bazzite, and For Honor has been running great for me through Proton. I can play normally, enjoy my matches, and I haven't had a reason to go back to Windows. And now Linux players are going to lose access because of the new anti-cheat changes. I understand that Ubisoft wants to fight cheaters and make Ranked better. I support that. But blocking legitimate Linux players who simply want to enjoy the game feels like the wrong solution. We bought the game. We supported it. Some of us have played for years and invested thousands of hours into it. We shouldn't have to install or switch to another operating system just to continue playing a game that was already working perfectly fine for us. I'm not writing this because I hate For Honor. I'm writing it because I love For Honor and want to keep playing it. I really hope Ubisoft listens to the Linux community and finds a way to make Proton/SteamOS compatible with the new anti-cheat system in the future. Until then, sadly, I cannot recommend For Honor to Linux/SteamOS users. Please Ubisoft, don't leave your Linux players behind. Bring Linux support back. 🐧❤️⚔️
To the For Honor Team, I am writing as a longtime For Honor player with thousands of hours invested in the game. I understand and respect the goal of improving anti-cheat measures and protecting the competitive integrity of Ranked play. I support efforts to stop cheating. However, I am asking you to reconsider the complete removal of Steam Deck and Linux players from the game. For Honor is more than just another game to me. Over ten years ago, I met one of my closest friends through For Honor. We spent countless hours fighting side by side, making memories that have stayed with me throughout my life. A few years ago, my friend passed away. Today, For Honor remains one of the strongest connections I have to those memories. When I purchased a Steam Deck and bought For Honor on Steam, part of my decision was knowing I could continue playing the game that meant so much to both of us. Losing access entirely feels like losing a place that has been important to me for years. If full Linux support is not possible, I respectfully ask that you consider alternatives: • Allow Steam Deck and Linux players to access PvE content. • Allow offline play against bots. • Allow access to campaign content. • Allow progression, hero leveling, customization, and collection management. • Restrict Linux players from Ranked modes if necessary rather than removing access to the entire game. I am not asking for special treatment. I am only asking for a way to continue experiencing the game and preserving the memories attached to it. Many Steam Deck and Linux players are not competitors looking for an advantage. We are loyal members of the community who purchased and supported For Honor because we love the game. Please consider a solution that preserves access for players like me while still achieving your anti-cheat goals. Thank you for your time and for the years of experiences For Honor has provided. Sincerely, A longtime For Honor player
On September 10th Ubisoft have confirmed via social media that you'll no longer be able to play the game via Linux that also includes Steam OS for steam deck and the steam machine. This is frankly a terrible decision as rather than fix their flawed cheat system which fails to identify cheaters they're now revoking the ability to play for a decent amount of players who have spent many hours and money on this game. It wasn't bad enough that the other day they forgot to add the game files for might and magic and now they're deciding to cull and already low player base for For Honor. Yikes.
Ubisoft's answer to a dwindling playerbase is to... kick off part of said playerbase? Bold strategy, I guess.
Those stupid devs decided linux users would be left out.
