About
The foghorns wake you, violent as ever. Another passenger has come to cross the fog.
In the dream you wander through the pines, and come upon a body. Innocent and young, murdered in cold blood. By your hand or another? Makes no difference now.
Foghorns Drown is a short psychological thriller, inspired by Silent Hill, Twin Peaks, and Mouthwashing. You play as a ferryman, bringing passengers across a foggy lake to a town drenched in mystery and folklore. The old ferryman has disappeared, and a murder has been committed.
How to tell real from dream when the dead speak again?
Physics-based interactions to open doors, drag objects, and operate the crank of the ferry to pull it along a rusty old chain. The foghorns have little patience, the ferry must move.
A rich, detailed narrative told through environmental clues, dialogue with the townsfolk, and surreal visions woven into your experience. The fog speaks to those who listen.
Psychological horror that escalate as truth begins to blur, and strange old tales begin to reveal themselves to you. Something in the water demands its toll.
Who is the killer? Why did the old ferryman disappear? Solve the mystery, before it's too late.

the demo ended up being the best part of the game. the full release only adds about 25 more minutes of content, filled with time skips that make everything feel rushed. there's barely any sense of danger, and the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive. the atmosphere is great, though, and it's easily the game's strongest point. after the second half, the story becomes confusing, making it hard to tell what's real and what isn't.
Nada nesse jogo me intriga.

Unfortunately falls flat for me. Despite the very well crafted visuals it struggles to keep the tension that is supposed to match the game's atmosphere. The story is rather underwhelming and confusing even if I understand what it's generally referencing and it isn't particularly explore well via gameplay. Operating the ferry was the most intriguing part of all of it for me and I think it would've been more impactful to utilize it as the main way to carry the horror/story throughout the entire experience instead of having the whole thing turn into a murder mystery with non linear storytelling towards the middle/end.
I bought this game because I appreciated the moody and olde world American setting (Ethel cain as my profile picture), it delivers in that atmosphere (Kinda) but it is just a spooky walking sim and I'm at a point in my life where I can't pretend those are more interesting than they actually are.
If you like the work of Robert Eggers or the games of Christoph Frey you'll likely like this. It's very much "elevated horror," a term I loathe but that never-the-less expresses a very specific idea of what you're getting here: it's not a "jumpscares pee your pants" kind of horror game, but a game that uses horror elements (among others!) to tell its story. It's more upsetting than it is scary, but I mean that in a complimentary way. If nothing else, it kept me on my toes. It's a game about religion and superstition, a game about death, and a game about the progress of modernity. It's also a game about a fish with hallucinogenic properties. And also eating coins. And it's only like an hour long, making it a perfect bite-sized little story. It's pretty rad. It's something of a clockwork game - things that feel throwaway are actually pretty innately intrinsic to its design; interactions and plot points that feel perfunctory or extraneous actually come to serve a critical role in the cycles the game iterates on. It also manages to do a fair bit of subtle world building without feeling obnoxiously lore-y about it. The Citadel, the Scourge, the church that's the oldest building in town, the arrival of the ferries replacing rowboats and the way technological progress is all just set dressing to more fundamental, immutable truths. I dug it.
A short atmospheric/psychological horror experience that I enjoyed!! I absolutely loved the atmosphere & setting. The game also ran perfect for me, no issues. Would recommend to fans of short, atmospheric/psychological horror games - especially ones with religious/folklore and nautical vibes. :3
The game has good bones, the story and setting made me think of a Robert Eggers film, the music has this deceptive calm about it with how it's set against the horrors that take place. I will have to say the game lacks some impact at the end, the story had little time to really come into stride or "crescendo" I guess, when I got to the finish line I didn't really feel one way or the other about the fate of the main character or others in the story. over all I'd like to see more from the studio, there is clearly talent here, you have time to develop and you can only improve from here.
This is a Mouthwashing like, and I cannot praise it enough for being so! Absolutely fantastic story, characters and a musical score that will live rent free in my head for months to come. And you know what, I couldn't be happier! 91/100 Would Drown this Foghorn again!
