Foghorns Drown

Foghorns Drown is a good horror game in its own right. Its inspirations are clear, and it tells a compelling story while pursuing them, but it also has some problems. The atmosphere, the setting, and the aesthetics are what drew me in ever since the Nextfest demo, but that alone can't carry a game. The story, as I said, is compelling and intriguing, yet it just misses the mark. The game barely scratches the 90-minute mark, and in that short runtime the story is extremely confusing and overloaded with unnecessary details that may or may not be open to interpretation. It jumps from an interesting setting and buildup to random dream sequences. There are memorable moments, but there's just not much to go on. It feels as though the devs dug deeper into the story than it could actually support. And I won't sugarcoat it: in terms of gameplay, this is a walking simulator. There are no puzzles or anything of the sort, so the game has to carry itself on its story alone, and the story just isn't that great. I'm sorry. So, do I recommend it? Partly. If you enjoy games like this, then yes, but not at the steep price of €10. That's simply too much for what's on offer. Pick it up on sale, though, and it's definitely worth a buy.

I quite enjoyed this game, it was a little short but I didn’t mind it too much, the atmosphere in this game is really good and the story was a little confusing but didn’t really take me out of the experience, overall I’ll give the game a 7.5/10
