Firewatch is one of the best examples of a "walking simulator" done well. Instead of focusing on combat or complex mechanics, it tells a deeply personal story about loneliness, guilt, and human connection.
Firewatch isn't just a "short walking simulator slop", it's more than you really think it is! It does resemble how reality is sometimes, that you must distract yourself to forget the previous problems you had or currently have. As we continue our journey with Firewatch, we are trying to prevent fires happening but also unravel the mysteries of the forest and solving problematic encounters on our hiking journey. Firewatch has suprised me a lot with it's story, as I didn't know anything about the game. It is a very well written story in such a short period of game time, where a hiking journey becomes more than just that. You will definitely be infested and in love with this game, both visually, sound wise and story wise. Developers have managed to create a game that could in some way resemble somebody's reality and question the player throughout the entire game. You should definitely grab Firewatch if you want to immerse yourself into this short hiking adventure and to discover what the forest has for us!
Firewatch is a really specific tilte, which reminds me of What Remains of Edith Finch, however in comparison narration is lackluster. It's really simple, short linear game with eye-pleasing graphics. There is a point in game which may creep you out a little bit, however it's not scary. If I had to describe this game, it feels like a book of somebody's summer while trying to runaway from your problems. I do feel a little bit disppointed - it's practically a diary of Henry's instead of a game. The only choie you get is the relationship you mantain towards your boss and wife (and even that is really limited, when the game tries to let you know he'd rather cheat on his sick wife by flirting with boss). Every other thing is linear. If you focus on nature and story of what's happening during your firewatch work, it's quite enjoyable. I feel like you can grab it on big discount to give it a try. I know it tries to be a game about life, however it feels a little bit incomplete due to lack of decision making, I feel like narration could be better - I mean personal life of main character. Nothing changed, there is no consequences, no decision's from Henry, no character develompent, his boss tries to force him to get back to his wife???, he just kinda feels like a bad husband? Even from before his wife got sick. I really wish I liked this game more, but it's just fine. As someone wrote "nice to walk in digital forest". Maybe inetersting conspiracy/mystery plotpoint, however it achieves nothing if your character is in a limbo and refuses to act, think or grow up. Definitely grab it on discount, if you want to play it. I'm not even sure if I'd recommend it, it's really overhyped. If steam gave me an option I'd give it "maybe on sale".
Welp, that kinda sucked. I've been wanting to play this game for a while. How could I not? The trailer, the landscapes, the premise, the positive reviews.. it all got me interested. A mystery in the woods? hell yeah! but unfortunately, the game just didn't land for me. Since this is a walking simulator, the gameplay is very simple: follow directions, go from point A to point B and talk to the person on the radio while you do it. Because of this, I expected the story to blow me away or, at the very least, hook me in. Instead, 3h in, I was bored out of my mind, still wondering what the game was about. Then some things started happening and I thought "finally, the slowest burn in the world is gonna pay off", but it never really did. There was so much potential for so many different interesting, dark stories. It was so easy to make up conspiracy theories while investigating, but there was no big mind-blowing plot in the end. The protagonist is likeable and the dialogue is fine, but nothing I'll remember. He has a sad backstory that doesn't really seem to be relevant to the game (besides it being mentioned every now and then and the reason he's there). There's barely any music, so I can't say that's a selling point either. Some people got attached to Delilah, I never fully trusted her. There are a lot of books, items and food laying around but you can't really do anything with them. Like, at some point you're supposed to pick up some supplies and only take the ones that were dropped for you and not for other people but why would you take the rest? You don't eat, drink, sleep, read or anything. There's no point or "hard choice to make for your own survival". I don't know, it was just not for me.
Firewatch's strongest features are, without a doubt, its beautiful visuals and immersive atmosphere. While the story is fairly simple, it's engaging enough to make the overall experience cozy and enjoyable.
PEAKKKK!!! From the very first minute of playing the game, I have been drawn to its world and couldn't stop playing. Every moment feels genuine, and the story trusts the player enough to let the emotions speak for themselves. A beautifully written experience from beginning to end. This game shows how important a good atmosphere and storytelling are for creating unforgettable experience. It's definitely worth recommendation.
No sé no sé.
Atmospheric adventure set in woods. Play as ranger and investigate what's going on, because there're some disappearances going on. Action get into more tension as you get closer to unraveling the secrets of place. Worth checking out especially if you like narrative adventures.
