Reviews
F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is a dieselpunk-inspired action platformer developed by TiGames and published by Astrolabe Games, presenting a striking blend of classic Metroidvania exploration and modern cinematic presentation. At its core, the game combines fluid side-scrolling combat, environmental puzzles, and interconnected world design with a visually rich setting powered by modern graphics technology. Although the game clearly draws inspiration from well-known titles within the Metroidvania genre, it manages to distinguish itself through its atmospheric worldbuilding, polished combat system, and distinctive aesthetic that merges industrial machinery with anthropomorphic animal characters. The story takes place in Torch City, a sprawling industrial metropolis that has fallen under the control of a powerful robotic military force known as the Legion. Six years before the events of the game, the Legion invaded and seized control of the city, forcing its citizens into submission and dismantling the resistance that once fought to protect their home. Players take control of Rayton, a battle-hardened rabbit who once served as a key member of the resistance before withdrawing into quiet isolation after the defeat. When an old friend is captured by the Legion, Rayton is forced back into action, strapping on a massive mechanical gauntlet that becomes both his primary weapon and symbol of rebellion. His journey through the city gradually uncovers hidden conspiracies, lost resistance networks, and the true motives behind the robotic occupation. Torch City itself plays a crucial role in the storytelling. The game’s world is presented as a large interconnected map that players slowly unlock as they gain new abilities and tools. Each district of the city introduces a unique environment, ranging from neon-lit urban streets and heavily fortified factories to underground tunnels and abandoned laboratories. These areas are filled with branching paths, hidden rooms, and locked passages that encourage careful exploration. The world design follows the classic Metroidvania formula, where new equipment allows players to revisit earlier locations and access previously unreachable sections of the map. This constant sense of discovery helps maintain momentum throughout the adventure and rewards players who pay attention to the layout of the world. Combat is one of the game’s strongest elements and forms the backbone of the overall gameplay experience. Rayton’s primary weapon is the massive mechanical fist attached to his back, which allows him to unleash powerful punches capable of launching enemies into the air or smashing through obstacles. As the story progresses, additional weapons become available, including a heavy drill that can penetrate armored enemies and barriers, as well as an electric whip that allows for long-range attacks and aerial mobility. Each weapon introduces its own move set and special abilities, encouraging players to experiment with different combinations during combat encounters. The combat system rewards both aggressive play and strategic timing. Players can chain attacks together to perform combos, juggle enemies in the air, and dodge incoming strikes using quick movement abilities. As players gain experience, they unlock additional combat techniques that expand the depth of the system. This progression gradually transforms Rayton from a simple brawler into a highly versatile fighter capable of adapting to a wide range of enemy encounters. The ability to switch between weapons mid-battle adds further flexibility, allowing players to exploit enemy weaknesses or create creative attack chains. Enemy design adds variety to the combat encounters throughout the game. Torch City is filled with robotic soldiers, mechanical creatures, and heavily armed units that each require slightly different tactics to defeat. Some enemies rely on ranged attacks, forcing players to close the distance quickly, while others use heavy armor or shields that must be broken with specific weapons. Boss battles represent some of the most memorable moments in the game, presenting large enemies with elaborate attack patterns and multiple phases. These encounters often demand careful observation and mastery of the combat mechanics in order to survive. Beyond combat, the game also introduces environmental puzzles and traversal challenges that help break up the action. Certain sections of the city require players to use newly acquired abilities to manipulate machinery, activate switches, or navigate complex platforming sequences. While these puzzles are generally not extremely difficult, they provide enough variety to keep exploration interesting and encourage players to think creatively about how to use their tools. Visually, F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch stands out thanks to its use of high-quality 2.5D graphics built using Unreal Engine technology. Characters and environments are rendered in detailed three-dimensional models while the gameplay itself remains confined to a side-scrolling perspective. This approach allows the game to deliver cinematic lighting, dynamic effects, and richly textured environments while preserving the familiar gameplay structure of classic platformers. The dieselpunk aesthetic is particularly striking, combining industrial machinery, rusted metal structures, and glowing neon lights to create a world that feels both futuristic and worn by years of conflict. The atmosphere of the game is further enhanced by its soundtrack and sound design. The music blends orchestral themes with industrial tones that match the gritty setting of Torch City. During exploration segments, the soundtrack creates a sense of quiet tension as players move through abandoned districts and hidden resistance bases. During combat encounters and boss battles, the music becomes more intense, reinforcing the adrenaline of fast-paced action. Sound effects also contribute significantly to the experience, with each weapon producing heavy, impactful sounds that make every attack feel powerful. Despite its many strengths, the game does have a few minor shortcomings. The early stages of the adventure progress somewhat slowly before the full range of weapons and abilities becomes available. Some players may also find that the map occasionally lacks clear direction, leading to moments of confusion when trying to determine the next objective. Additionally, while the world is visually impressive, certain areas can feel slightly linear compared to the sprawling maps found in some other Metroidvania titles. Even with these minor issues, F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch delivers a highly polished and engaging experience. Its combination of smooth combat mechanics, rewarding exploration, and striking visual design makes it one of the more memorable modern entries in the Metroidvania genre. The game successfully captures the spirit of classic exploration platformers while enhancing the formula with modern technology and a distinctive aesthetic. Ultimately, F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch stands as a strong example of how indie developers can reinterpret familiar gameplay structures with style and ambition. The journey through Torch City offers a satisfying balance of action, exploration, and storytelling, creating an adventure that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. For fans of Metroidvania games who appreciate fluid combat systems and richly detailed worlds, the game offers a compelling and visually impressive experience. Rating: 9/10

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

MAN!
Decent metroidvania which I have finished twice now (Epic + Steam). Takes around 14 hours to 100% so it's not too long. I just wish there was more variety in the areas as you're basically in a factory/mine/underwater for the whole game.
