literally Galaxy on Fire 2. I liked that game years ago, and I like this one now.
Everspace 2 is a slog of a game which is unfortunate since the first game was a fun rogue-like with plenty of variety. As an immersive space sim fan, I was hoping this would scratch the "Freelancer" itch but it fails to do what that game did right. If you want a simple space combat sim, just stick to the first game. Using the same elements to make a full scale RPG may have been good in concept but failed to stick the landing. Gameplay: You fly a ship and engage in space combat against a variety of ships with a limited choice of weapons. It all boils down to zooming around and taking out hordes of enemies. You can eventually purchase different ships and select several combat abilities for slightly different gameplay, but once the reality of the combat's repetition kicks in, you'll quickly realize there won't be anything else to look forward to. If you manage to get through the main story, you unlock the ability to do "space rifts" where you can choose higher levels of difficulty in exchange for potentially better loot. At this point, everything just became a laser-sponge and couldn't be bothered to go any further. I just didn't see the point in seeing anything else this game had to offer. Story: The story is absolutely dull, with a large cast of characters who are all just as flat and lifeless. I found myself wanting to just skip through the constant barrage of poorly written dialogue and cutscenes. There is far too much back-and-forth travel between your base and different systems, just so that you can advance the story and move on with the plot. What's the point of needing to return to your base to talk to someone when you have some sort of hyper-stellar communication system where you can talk to anyone you want no matter the distance? Graphics: The one thing I truly enjoyed was the space setting and variety of planetary systems that were filled with bases, ruined ships, and exotic fauna. After awhile you start to see the same things but for the most part, exploring each system was initially a blast. Puzzles: I stubbornly (and stupidly) decided to 100% each planetary system, which meant finding all the loot in each designated location. This gets easier later on once you unlock a certain companion-perk but ultimately, the point of this endeavor becomes a form of torture when you realize the loot is always the same and 95% of it will be scrapped or sold. Due to limited inventory space and way too many consumable items, you'll find yourself suffering through "inventory-simulator" in order to move on to the next puzzle. Some of the puzzles were clever and well made but the loot just made the entire thing feel unrewarding. Music: The music is downright awful. There are no common themes or motifs that give you any sense of atmosphere. When you're flying through a cloudy space storm and searching for alien artifacts, the music should enhance that sense of mystery, not ruin it. The entire soundtrack feels misplaced and is completely unmemorable. If Everspace 3 ever becomes a thing, they need to start fresh, with an actually likeable main character or cast. Create a story that actually makes sense and is enjoyable to go through. Add a sense of alien mystery and atmosphere. Get rid of the infuriating AI companion that always has something to say. And for the love of all things, please find a better composer. Rating: 2 out of 5.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I rarely write reviews for games, but for this one I have to. tl;dr: A great sequel to the first Everspace, with a few small flaws. Main story takes (took me) about 50 hours to finish while doing almost all side missions along the way. I definitely recommend, especially if you buy during a sale. Let's start by answering something you might be wondering: do you have to play Everspace 1 before playing this game? I'd say that you don't have to, but you'll appreciate this game more if you do. There are many references to ES1 throughout the game. I don't think they're that critical to understand, but it's definitely nice to be able to recall certain things from the first game when they are mentioned. So overall, I'd recommend playing ES1 (it's a great game too, even if a bit janky at times), but it's not a must-do. The game feels like a very natural sequel to the first installment and the continuation is well thought-through, it never felt forced to me. The gameplay is exactly what you'd expect: flying a spaceship and shooting stuff. The controls are more arcade than simulation (think No Man's Sky instead of Elite: Dangerous), so "airplane controls" are not there, yaw control is very quick. While it certainly takes a bit of getting used to, I see why it was done this way: a lot of the game involves looking around and having aircraft-style low yaw control would simply be frustrating. The weapons are a mix of Everspace 1 classics and new items, and there are even variants of weapons with slightly different stats. And then there are legendary items, which aside from good stats have additional gimmicks. Even after finishing the story, there is theoretically infinite replayability - you can do "rifts", which let you get the absolute best gear, buy the best class of spaceships etc. I haven't done that yet (I finished the story today) and maybe I won't, but the replayability is there The story itself is great and reaches a very satisfying conclusion at the end. It's told through dialogues, cutscenes and comic-style "videos"/"slideshows" known from Everspace 1, which is a fun variety. At the beginning of the game, I'd say that some dialogues feel naive and unnatural, but they quickly improve and are much better later on, so overall it's a minor nitpick. The bossfights you have throughout the game are cool and the final set of big fights feels great. The game has a lot of secrets (mostly bonus loot) you can unlock. It's a mix of puzzles, simple skill checks and, unfortunately (for me), spotting stuff. Puzzles are easy are and usually revolve around following a cable, noticing color patterns (there are colorblind modes) etc. Skill checks mostly involve bringing an item to a location fast enough or without it getting destroyed or, later on, flying through tight spaces - you can usually get them within a couple attempts and often first try, so they're by no means difficult. The spotting is the worst part for me - sometimes you have to find a small button in a random place, a tiny bulkhead you can destroy etc. They are very distinct (buttons are bright red lights and interactable objects have a yellow tint), but sometimes they are just hidden a bit to well or a in a really stupid place. Maybe it's a skill issue on my side, but it's what I enjoyed the least. It was by no means terrible, usually spotting things is easy, but when you struggle with it for too long, it really feels frustrating. There's also a bossfight towards the end where finding the objects you need to throw at the boss fast enough is hard because they're simply small, but it's not like that boss if much of a threat, so time is not critical. Some things from Everspace 1 (Ancient Wardens, jumping between systems etc.) have been modified for the game to be playable, but there's no in-game explanation why, which is a bit sad. Also, regional hazards from ES1 like black holes, stars frying your ship or electromagnetic storms either didn't make it or are implemented on a tiny scale, which is a shame. My last and biggest complaint are the constant loading screens. It's clear that the game has drawn inspiration from similar titles, like Elite: Dangerous, No Man's Sky etc. These games have immersive loading screens, where, while a location loads, there's an animation of exiting FTL, jumping between systems etc. Everspace 2 does not have that, it's just constant black screens, which become annoying if you travel a lot and ruins the immersion. I don't think they would have been that hard to implement, and yet they're not here. Lastly, I'll just say that there are small references to other games (Pokemon, Deep Rock Galactic and plenty more) sprinkled thorought both the achievements and the game content itself. Easter eggs are always fun, especially if you can actually notice them. So yeah, great game, even if it has a few flaws. Go buy it. And if it's too expensive, wait for a sale and then buy it.
I'm a few hours in now and unfortunately the gameplay loop already became very annoying. You spend a big chunk of your time traveling between jump points, would say at least 30%, the enemies seem to be the same 5 ship types over and over again, just with different levels. You can't just go straight for the main story either as you will be underleveled very fast, so you have to do the classic side quests like "kill x enemy" or "retrieve A and bring it to B" I'm in the 2nd Sector now and lost all motivation. Kinda sad, was a promising start.

powerful statement
Game is beautiful, combat is satisfying, ships are easy to maneuver with K+M (just like the previous release). Then it's outstanding, isn't it? Hell no, son! It's an ok game, and I know I don't need to play more to change my mind. So pay attention, buyer: if you are willing to accept some annoying things, you are good to go. Otherwise... Example of annoying things: 1) game is a never ending loading feast: every time you jump, every time you reach destination, there is no animation to mask loading; it's the raw and cruel black screen with sort of a loading bar. And dude, prepare to meet this thing 50 times a session. 2) Dialogues are boring and intrusive. I just want to pilot my ship, mate. 3) Protagonist is a pita. He already was, but this time he outgunned himself. Nevertheless, it's a good choice if you are looking for a blend between the "give up your life and spend the rest of your days learning how to play me" games and those which are bland arcade shooting gallery where you happen to be in a spaceship.
If you've been wanting to play a game like Freelancer, this is a great modern take on the same formula. Not only that, you can play the first few hours of the game with the demo, and if you decide to play the main game the save you have from the demo will carry over and you can continue without issue. It took me 60 hours to finish the main game, and I still haven't done all the side missions, nor the DLCs. Worth the price!
