Esoteric Ebb

Ebb goes far beyond simply disco elysium with dnd systems bolted on - I actually prefer it to the former in a lot of ways. Particularly: 1) The spells and cantrips add a layer of nuance to how you interact with the game mechanically - a well placed spell can change the outcome of an encounter. Or a cantrip will allow you interact with the overworld in interesting ways. 2) Tying ability scores to various personalities is so elegant and really helps to guide how you build your Cleric. 3) Feat system is great, similar to the thought cabinet but a lot more straight forward. 4) Itemisation is super fun to experiment with - there's so much to find. I loved every moment of this game and only wish for more. Worth every penny,

많은 리뷰들에서 이미 말하고 있듯 디스코 엘리시움과 대단히 닮은 게임 판타지 세계관을 좋아한다면 아마 디엘보다 이쪽이 더 취향에 맞을 가능성이 높을 것이다 비공식 한국어 패치가 AI 기반이긴 하지만 만드신 분이 맥락 인지를 얼마나 잘 시키신 건지 조금 과장하자면 일부 UI 배치나 경어 사용이 잘못된 일부 부분을 빼고는 사람이 한 것이나 다름없다 가장 중요하다고 할 법한 스토리 부분에서는 아주 좋은 점수를 줘도 될 듯하다 굴러다니는 조연들조차 대화를 나눠 보면 아주 흥미로운 사상과 성격, 이야기를 지녔고 세계관도 물론 훌륭하나 게임의 볼륨에 비해서는 다소 방대해 솔직히는 좀 겉핥기로만 즐겼다 묘하게 플레이하면서 내 선택들이 게임의 결말에는 별 영향이 없을 것 같다는 인상이 있으며 실제로도 그러한 셈이지만, 어쨌거나 과정이 충분히 재밌다면 그걸로 용서가 되지 않을까? 게임성 측면으로는 뭔가 미묘한 것조차 디스코 엘리시움을 닮았다 마법의 종류는 대단히 많으나 사실 효율적으로 쓸 만한 것은 몇 되지 않는다는 점 장비 또한 종류가 제법 되지만 프리셋이 없어 상황에 따라 갈아 끼는 게 번거롭기도 하고 일부 주사위 굴림에 이점을 주는 장비나 후반 장비들을 빼면 엄청난 효용을 지니지도 않는다 특성조차도 두셋 중 하나를 고르라는 식으로 선택지를 주나 두드러지게 좋은 것은 한정되어 있다 상당한 비약이 들어간 의견이지만, RPG 흉내를 낸 비주얼 노벨이라고 봐도 좋을 정도지 않을까 싶다 장점이 어쩌니 단점이 어쩌니 해도 아무튼 뭔가 땀내와 담배 연기만 풀풀 날리는 디엘이랑은 다르게 상당히 에소테릭한 기분을 안겨 주는 게임

One of my favorite RPG series of all time is the Quest for Glory series. This game, Esoteric Ebb, is not in any way connected to the Quest for Glory series. The gameplay is nothing like the Quest for Glory series. And yet, somehow, it captures exactly the feeling of the Quest for Glory series from the genuinely atmospheric adventure all the way to its off-beat sense of humor. 11 out of 10, would recommend to everyone and I hope to see more from this developer.

As a huge DnD nerd, Esoteric Ebb hooked me in much more than the games it was inspired by. The witty comedy, the simple spell system and the great characters. I really hope there is a continuation or at least another game in the same vein. Finished the game and shed a tear to his prayer to Urth. In life we take for granted the simplest things that many people wish for. Congrats to you Chris!!!!
