Emerge: Cities of the Apocalypse

Avendo deciso di recensire ogni gioco che mi abbia conquistato per più di 100 ore, nello scorrere la lista ho ritrovato questo gioco del 2016, a cui ho dedicato la bellezza di 116 ore (24° posto per ore giocate nella mia libreria), anche se ormai piuttosto risalenti nel tempo. In estrema sintesi il gioco è ambientato in un mondo post apocalittico dove gli umani rimasti devono cercare di sopravvivere in un mondo infestato da zombi mutanti, cercando comunque di svilupparsi e ricacciando indietro le orde dei non morti. Il gioco mi colpiva per una certa originalità, infatti vi è una parte strategica a turni, nella quale dovrete collezionare risorse e sviluppare tecnologie cercando di espandere la vostra zona di influenza (insomma una sorta di 4X), su una mappa suddivisa in quadrati chiamati distretti. Al contempo, però, anche questi zombi mutanti si espandono e crescono di numeri e prima o poi vi incontrerete in uno di questi quadranti e qui torniamo all'originalità di cui dicevo prima, lo scontro qualora vogliate gestirlo non in automatico, sarà in tempo reale nella quale il vostro personaggio (esattamente, all'inizio dovrete scegliere un personaggio con determinate caratteristiche che dovrete poi sviluppare nel corso dei turni) da dietro una barricata dovrà cercare di sterminare l’orda assalitrice prima di essere sopraffatto in una sorta di “difesa della torre”. Non so spiegare esattamente il perché, ma nel periodo in cui l’ho giocato questa commistione tra i generi mi aveva preso parecchio e sforacchiare centinaia di zombi assalitori era fin quasi rilassante, anche se tutt'altro che facile! Detto ciò lascio il mio giudizio assolutamente positivo!

This game, while difficult, is actually pretty fun. The challenge in finding everything is very rewarding and the progression is spot on. This game really gives you the full zombie apocalypse experience in that you can actually be defeated really easily and all it takes is a few turns.

Why is research and troops lost on progression :/ After about 2-3 fights the game crashes.

Repetitive. Few options available for the player in general. Uninteresting items. Campaign mode is only a collection of scenarios, you can carry a single item into following scenario and that's about it. It isn't a very bad game, there is some fun to be had here but overall it's mediocrity incarnated.

I have been bouncing back and forth on this one, and I will say that it has it's flaws, but I am finding this game to be fun, for the most part. There are two levels of play. Strategically you are freeing sections of a city. You have the options to do research, hire survivors, adjust your team (max of four, if the game is long enough) visit the merchant and build upgrades to your sectors, among other things. Tactically you fight zombies by having your team stand behind a barricade and shoot at approaching zombies who are attempting to destroy your barricade and get to your team. A lot of things can be up graded, characters level and you get to pick one skill each time they do so. The research has three trees, each with several levels and a lot of decisions to make. You have to buy defensive weapons to guard your sectors between turns. The game automatically decides of they are sufficient, if not you get to choose if you want to go in with your team and try to reclaim it. Team members can die, so you often have to think about your chances. The game seems to have a lot of growth to it, there are a lot of unlockables, and I haven't gotten even one of them yet! The game has two levels of difficulty, normal and casual, and I have been playing on casual, and I have really been having fun. One caveat though, there is at least one level where casual seems to be broken, the Taiwan section. Ouch, killer. I have been trying to play around it. I have e-mailed the developer to ask them about it, no clue if they will answer as this is an older game. All in all though, a lot of fun, an an easy thumbs up.
