to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women, or something
ELDERBORN is a fun, short melee-focused first person game bookended by engaging opening and closing chapters with a lukewarm filling in the middle.
To its credit, this game starts off well and has a nice labyrinthine opening chapter where you will spend roughly half of its brief, approximately 3.5 hour runtime before stepping out into the world in a fairly bland, unfinished-feeling middle section, before concluding in another intriguing area. ELDERBORN excels at having a good variety of enemies and weapons at your disposal. You will be able to find roughly 10 weapons which all feel pretty unique and vary in damage output and countering options (some simply block while others allow you to parry and counterattack) though I did find myself just swapping to the hammer and bashing through opponents' defenses pretty often. You also have a kick that can stagger enemies or push them into fire, spikes, and off of cliffs but I think this gameplay element wasn't emphasized or implemented very well here (compared to something like Bulletstorm or Dark Messiah) ELDERBORN feels a bit 'budgety' in some of its production, however I don't mean that as a slight. If you enjoyed the heyday of games on the 360 / PS3 era, you may want to give this a chance. Its graphics may not look the most polished and some of the music may sound a bit generic, but it also bothers to present a full story with narrated cutscenes, hand-drawn art, and notes scattered through the world that expand on the game's lore and craft an overall immersive experience. Once you get into a rhythm of dashing toward (and away) from your enemies while holding down a heavy attack to do a big swing and take them out with the occasional decapitation, ELDERBORN's core gameplay loop feels pretty good (especially leveled up on a
NewGame+
playthrough) That praise aside, I found myself disappointed with the game's middle area. After the intricate, somewhat mysterious level design of the opening cavern area, I was expecting the game to then lead me to more engaging sequences, but once I realized the outdoor environment of its second chapter was going to be it and not much else was on the horizon, I couldn't shirk the feeling that the game is somewhat unfinished, particularly in the middle after the well-crafted opening. As the epilogue rapidly approaches, it picks up steam again to end decently enough. I believe the studio has a sequel in development, so I am curious how that will turn out and will definitely keep an eye on that release after having an overall good (not mind-blowing) time mashing through this.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I really, really didn't like this game. I didn't like anything about it. But apparently a good number of people had great fun because it has "very positive reviews" on the store page. First of all, I thought it was a nice little "hack and slash" RPG that you can play between 2 serious games, but Elderborn is actually a melee FPS action game, it's like Quake or Doom but with only melee weapons and in a fantasy setting. It's my fault I didn't see the "souls-like" and "difficult" tags in the steam store. The story is something mashed up just in order to say there is a story, but it's nothing of note. It's basically a dungeon crawler, you just have to smash hordes of monsters. There are no quests nor objectives. It's very monotonous and repetitive. The enemies respawn when you die, which is a design choice I abhor in games. You have infinite lives but still it's very frustrating to have to go through all those enemies again. Also when that happens it brings you backwards in the level ( to the nearest fountain of life you activated ). The fountains of life are like checkpoints for respawning, but also in theory are used for healing yourself. Too bad the developers implemented the rule that when you heal yourself at fountains, all enemies respawn. So I never used them! It is absurd! Luckily you also have 3 vials of life for healing that re-charge up as you kill enemies. There is no mini-map ( nor any kind of maps ) in the game, and it's easy sometimes to get lost in the maze-like levels. This game is all about the combat, which supposedly is it's strong feature. But I didn't resonate with it. It's all about memorizing the attack patterns of each enemy ( each enemy has a unique pattern of course ), and responding accordingly with parry, block, strafing, light and heavy attack. But I found the attack patterns really convoluted, and it is frustrating that sometimes the enemy's attack cannot be blocked, so blocking is useless in that case. So you really have to memorize each enemy. But it is worse then that, because often you are attacked by many enemies at once, each with their own pattern! So it was really frustrating. The game is very difficult on the normal setting. I barely managed to beat it on normal. After a while I realized it's not worth it to try to parry or block, you can use the big 2-handed sword and just spam the light attack while strafing around as quickly as you can. That speaks volumes of the combat mechanics! There are many weapons but I didn't find reasons to use most of them. There were many stupid deaths because I didn't see a trap that 1 - hit me. The leveling up system is incredibly minimalistic with only a few attributes to increase and only a few skills, and I found those skills to be of little use in the chaotic combat. The game is actually very short ( 3 levels ), but I just couldn't wait for it to finish, so I didn't mind it.
Slop just utter slop my god.
A good, simple game that is fine for a single playthrough, provided you buy it on sale. There is nothing new or groundbreaking here, and the experience is quite short. Featuring a pseudo-Bronze Age Hyperborean setting, the entire game is a homage to sword-and-sorcery à la Howard or C. A. Smith, combined with a blue-collar power metal aesthetic. It is simple and doesn't take itself too seriously. Elderborn is to Dark Souls what Howard's "The Tower of the Elephant" is to "The Lord of the Rings" in literature, or Manilla Road to Blind Guardian in music. It's not about intricacies or a face-melting challenge; it's all about the atmosphere.
Beautiful game albeit very short! Great combat! I wish happiness and prosperity to the developers!
ELDERBORN is basically Dark Souls if it was an FPS and decided swords were better than guns. The combat is fast, brutal, and unforgiving. You’re dodging, blocking, slicing enemies up, and dying just enough to question your life choices. The whole game has that dark, gritty fantasy atmosphere, but the first-person combat makes it feel completely different. It’s like Dark Souls got tired of looking over your character’s shoulder and said, “Nah, you’re getting stabbed in first person.
One of the better "Living Through a Heavy Metal Album Cover" sims out there.
