Woodsy Studio excels in creating games with a fascinating and deep mythos behind them. This is yet another great game from the studio. Compared to the sequel Last Sacrament, this game is a little heavier on the mystery and lighter on the romance.
Immersive world-building in a unique universe, characters with intriguing back stories, and an interesting quest/storyline. You also get a *lot* of story for your buck, and many storylines to pursue. (I know play everything kinda slow...but I still was impressed with how *much* game there was.) I was also surprised that I enjoyed the soundtrack so much! A few tracks stuck in my head pleasantly even when I wasn't playing :) Two thumbs up!

Echoes of the Fey: The Fox's Trail is a narrative-focused fantasy mystery that blends the structure of a visual novel with investigative storytelling, political intrigue, relationship building, and light exploration. Developed and published by Woodsy Studio, it distinguishes itself through a setting where magic is not merely a convenient fantasy device but an important part of the world's history and conflicts. Instead of concentrating on combat or elaborate puzzles, the game asks players to become invested in its characters, examine their motivations, and make decisions that influence how the investigation develops. The protagonist, Sofya Rykov, is a private investigator living in the city of Vodotsk. Her background immediately gives the story an unusual angle because she survived a devastating war and emerged from the experience with magical abilities that she cannot completely control. Magic is therefore both an advantage and a potential danger. Accompanying her is Heremon ir-Caldy, a Leshin doctor interested in understanding Sofya's condition. Their partnership allows the story to explore personal differences while gradually revealing the wider cultural divisions surrounding them. The world of Oraz has recently endured decades of conflict between Humans and Leshin. Although the war has ended, the hostility that created it has not simply disappeared. Vodotsk carries particularly deep scars after spending years under Leshin occupation, leaving both populations to deal with resentment, distrust, and difficult questions about what should happen next. Leshin residents must consider whether they still have a place within the city, while Humans are attempting to rebuild after years of occupation. This uneasy atmosphere gives the game considerably more depth than a typical fantasy detective story. The central case involves the disappearance of a Leshin who had connections with the Human resistance during the occupation. Sofya's investigation begins as a missing-person case but soon becomes entangled with secrets from the war and the fragile political situation that followed it. This is where the game's writing becomes most interesting. Gathering information is not simply about determining where someone went. Every revelation can expose another piece of the city's troubled history, and the people Sofya encounters frequently have their own loyalties, fears, and reasons for withholding information. Most of the gameplay follows a visual novel structure built around reading conversations and selecting responses. The story contains more than a hundred decision points, allowing players to influence conversations, relationships, investigative discoveries, and eventual outcomes. Some choices are more significant than others, but the overall approach creates a welcome sense that Sofya's personality and investigative methods are partly being shaped by the player. Multiple endings also provide additional value to these decisions and make revisiting the story more appealing for anyone interested in seeing alternative consequences. Exploration adds another layer to the otherwise dialogue-heavy experience. Players can move Sofya through side-scrolling sections of Vodotsk, visit different locations, and encounter optional activities and side quests. These sequences are relatively simple and should not be mistaken for the mechanics of a dedicated platformer or adventure game, but they serve an important purpose. Walking through the city helps transform Vodotsk from a collection of illustrated backgrounds into a more believable location. Optional encounters also provide additional opportunities to understand the setting and its inhabitants. The presentation complements the narrative effectively. Character animation gives conversations some additional life, while partial voice acting helps establish personalities without making the entire game dependent on recorded dialogue. The soundtrack uses an unusual synth-fantasy style and includes a substantial selection of music. Rather than relying solely on traditional medieval fantasy sounds, the score contributes to the game's distinctive identity and reinforces the feeling that Oraz is not intended to be another conventional fantasy kingdom. The artwork is similarly suited to the material. Its independent production values are noticeable, but the illustrated environments and character portraits have enough personality to sustain the lengthy conversations that dominate the experience. The visual direction is more concerned with atmosphere and character expression than technical spectacle. Considering that much of the game revolves around dialogue and investigation, this approach works reasonably well. Its biggest weakness is also an unavoidable consequence of its chosen genre. Players must be willing to read extensively and become invested in fictional politics, history, and interpersonal relationships. The investigative mechanics are not particularly complex, while the exploration sections provide variety rather than substantial mechanical depth. Anyone expecting combat-heavy fantasy, elaborate deduction systems, or frequent puzzles may find the experience limited. The pacing can also feel deliberate because the game spends considerable time developing its setting and characters. Steam Deck compatibility is less straightforward than with games carrying a clear official Valve compatibility classification. The game should therefore be approached as lacking a definitive official Steam Deck verification rather than being confidently described as Verified. As an older Windows-focused visual novel, compatibility may depend on Proton and could require adjustments. Its relatively straightforward controls and modest gameplay structure are naturally suited to portable play, but players should not assume a completely trouble-free Deck experience without checking their current configuration and Proton compatibility. Ultimately, Echoes of the Fey: The Fox's Trail is most successful when treated as an interactive fantasy mystery rather than a mechanically demanding detective game. Its strongest qualities are its troubled postwar setting, unusual protagonist, branching conversations, political themes, relationships, and the way the central investigation gradually becomes connected to larger social conflicts. The combination of visual novel storytelling and light exploration gives it more variety than a purely static narrative while maintaining its focus on character and world-building. For players who enjoy reading-intensive adventures, fantasy mysteries, and stories shaped by dialogue choices, it offers an engaging and distinctive journey. Rating: 7/10

Boutique independent games' evaluation for Chinese
I was really surprised by this game. I played the demo months ago and finally bought it the other day, but I have a completely different view of it now. I found Sofya irritating in the demo (idk why) but as I played as her more I became more attached to her and the other characters throughout the game. It was interesting getting to know the opinions, likes, dislikes and personalities of each character, and view their interactions with each other. There were lots of twists and turns and character development, and I'm looking forward to the next episode, whenever it comes out. Also - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING ALL THE CHARACTERS VOICES; voices can express feelings, tones and intentions that simply reading text cannot. (ps 10/10 would buy again for Arkady, he is actually my perfect daddy)
这画风也太难受了... 看得我好不爽啊,不过好评还是蛮多的 虽然没有过多少剧情,我就给个小差评吧...
画风不是很喜欢,然后文本太多了,如果有汉化可以玩玩。
