Dying Light: The Beast is a surprisingly deep, atmospheric, and mature experience. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it refines the formula with confidence—closing the gaps left by the second chapter and rediscovering what made the original so compelling. It dares where it matters, yet never strays from its core identity. Familiar gameplay returns, but it’s enhanced by thoughtful, coherent innovations and a narrative structure that’s finally both solid and engaging. It’s not perfect, but it has soul—and in today’s landscape, that’s more than enough to rank it among the standout action-survival titles of the year.
This is what DL2 should be

This is the worst Dying Light ever. I already wasted´ too much of my time and sanity on this game. Making the parkour even worst than any free-to-play game was a bold choice that doesent really rectify the rest of the game beeing this ♥♥♥♥. It feels unfinished and really punishes you for the smallest mistakes, making running arround the city, you know, MOST OF THE GAME, really more like a chore than enjoyable. I just unlocked most of the fast-travel points early so i dont have to deal with the ♥♥♥♥ mechanics. The story is just a complete random collection of some of the mostttt boring quests for some of the most forgettable NPCs i have ever encountered, basically skipping every Cutscene possible. Absolute ♥♥♥♥ parkour, boring story and bad weapong gameplay making this game probably one of the worst and unplayable Dying Lights i have ever played. Huge disapopintment and waste of money, DO NOT BUY if you dont have the sanity or the patience to restart the mission six times becuase something broke in the mission on this unfinished and unoptimized piece of ♥♥♥♥ game
It was decent, I bought it to play the Restored Land mode but found out I couldn't play it on the easy mode so I refunded it. I'm old, I'm sick and I don't want much of a challenge anymore just atmosphere, exploration and a paint by numbers map clearing sounded nice. But the difficulty is not for me in the mode I want to play it in. It needs to be clear that Restored Land can't be played on easy in the marketing, more clear than it is.
Dying Light: The Beast
This is not a good game. I really wish it was and have given it a shot, but I would much rather play the previous game(s) than play more of this. They took Dying Light and made it worse almost over all different parts of the game. Base game difficulty scales with your level based on story progression. A basic zombie/viral will destroy you all the same at level 1 or 15. On new game plus, even your instagib face stepping won't one shot a basic zombie anymore. Bullet sponge enemies are extremely real. Story wise, the story is contrived and doesn't seem to know if it wants to be whacky and silly or serious. The ''twists and turns'' in the game you can see coming from 10 miles away and Crane seems to forget the things he promises to those that betray him. Barely any of the NPCs are likeable, and unless you turn your brain off completely make it extremely obvious they could not care less for Kyle and are using him. Yet Kyle has zero agency or thoughts of himself and just goes along with whatever, even clear misdirections and the lack of player choice is staggering. The ''gear'' and leveling system is extremely bland. There are no fun ''unique'' weapons in this game with special effects as they all have the same name and the same style. They are however, almost paradoxically also extremely difficult to know what some of the buffs the weapons give. One gives 75% kick damage. On the base kick? Drop kick? Charged kick? Who knows. Armor is another one, the bonuses are extremely low if only using a part, and if you use the full set, your armor value is low. But how much does armor value matter? From testing, it seems to barely change your incoming damage. Bosses, elite enemies or volatiles that 2 shot you will 2 shot you regardless, and against a horde of virals, the difference in armor also does not make a difference. 1.5% dmg reduction from infected is negligible and doesn't feel worth using. Vendors are just there for materials and later some ammo. Only once have I seen a vendor with a remotely useful weapon and even then it wasn't even clear what the weapon boosted (75% kick damage) and may have been broken. Their inventory is shockingly bad even further in the game. Resources range from extremely common to barely existing and requiring a vendor, but soon in the game you will be rolling in so much cash that it doesn't matter and you can just ping between vendors to get the resouces you need. Ammo is extremely scarce, and even once you get to the Human enemies, they will give you... a single slug for a shotgun, a single arrow, maybe 3 rifle bullets. Actually looting enemies for ammo is practically useless, and the ranged weapons themselves deal ridiculously low damage to bosses on the base game difficulty. Extreme bullet sponges while also making melee combat frustrating constantly tossing you over with shared abilities between a lot of the enemies and other bosses which are essentially just recolours. The variety in enemies is extremely low and frankly disappointing to not see a improvement on this compared to the other games. Night time is EXTREMELY punishing, to the point where it's borderline unplayable. In the original game, you could exist during nighttime maybe a little too easy once you got some unlocks, but this game pushes it to the extreme other end. Nighttime is torture, and there is no bonus worth existing during nighttime. Volatiles are extremely spongy for damage, and will move much faster than yourself and will get hits in even while running at max boosted speed, while parkouring. They will simply turbo mode to keep up with you at all times which seems to be the intended way. They are also extremely aware and will spot you from a mile away when they feel like it. Good luck finishing a chase, because there's very bad dead zone between safe areas where you will be too far to reach a safe zone. New game plus had me holding out for hope that this would fix a lot of issues, but considering the bonuses are 3% extra damage per tier of unlock this barely moves the needle and does not feel like worthwhile talents. No fun or interactive talents such as swapping weapons increasing your damage, comboing regular kicks with melee attacks adding extra damage to enemies, hitting enemies having a chance for instant executions etc... there was so much potential for this system. There are potentially game breaking bugs possible as well. Throughout my coop playthrough we had several points where enemies just fail to sync properly, despite not even having particularly high ping at the time. Also issues with enemies phasing through the world on 'clear the zone of enemies' type missions, where enemies had phased into solid objects, or straight up through the floor. Human enemies being particularly bad with this as they dodge a lot of melee attacks, and these dodges seem to mesh really bad with terrain and objects. This could easily softlock your game. Also pop-in of enemies while driving, several areas had enemies spawn in directly in front of the truck while driving while we both have good rigs. The map resets the visible dark zones/convoys upon reloading, showing them all as undiscovered areas once more upon restarting the game. Why? We've been around similar areas multiple times only to ''discover'' the same dark zone or convoy. Also a personal gripe - Activating beast mode or driving a car instantly or continuously spawning virals. Just why? If you get this game, get it on a heavy discount or simply play the first game again.
Some good, some bad - the game I personally found Dying Light The Beast very difficult to review. As the third game in the Dying Light series, it tries to bridge the gap left between the first and the second instalment, trying to go back to "the roots" of the first game, but also not giving up on the gameplay and creative changes introduced in the second game. It's a tall order to fill, and while it doesn't necessarily fail, it also doesn't completely manage to live up to the promised. It's really nice to see Kyle again, even in these (for him) unfortunate circumstances. Trapped and experimented on, he's finally free and ready for payback. While nostalgic to have him and his snappy attitude back, the story itself leaves a lot to be desired. It's really quite simple and straightforward, backed up by a vague goal of revenge. Feels as if Kyle is an elephant clumsily flailing around with no clear objective or idea on how to execute said goal. Definitely doesn't help that the supporting cast is so bland that I've forgotten who they were the moment their quest chain was completed. Dying Light as a franchise was never a quality storytelling one, it offered a straightforward story backed with parkour and zombies, but it did have a varied cast of side characters, plenty of side quests and snippets of conversations, interesting in their own weird way. Here, not so much.. Which comes to the point, the game felt too short, really short.. Empty. The gameplay itself was fine, interestingly it felt a lot more clunky, both parkour and combat compared to the second game. I often found myself getting grabbed from 5m away or my melee attack missing if the reticle was 1mm off. Apart from the beast mode, which was a very fun addition, it felt weird to not have the already fleshed out flighting controls and options from DL2. Sure the base was there, but the weapon mods felt strangely ineffective, combat parkour was almost non existent or had a clunky setup and the skill tree was pretty small and basic (not counting beast mode). Executions, while present, were repetitive and felt weird at times. Only the centre of the map, the town, had somewhat of a notion of actual parkour and climbing, it still generally felt heavily reduced and not as impactful even there. Outside of that small zone, you have the vehicle for moving around, a 4x4 pickup truck, which is cool stuff! They added a vehicle to the game, a highly requested thing ever since DL1 The Following. The weird choice there was, it was not a personal vehicle, as the buggy was, which you could upgrade, fix and modify or call back to you at certain spots on the map. It was, in fact, a basic respawnable car you'd find at the exact same spots in the exact same condition every single time. There weren't even different skins you could find in the wild, just two - a green one for "the good guys" and a black one for the enemy faction. Really felt disconnected with it. Why care about that specific one you found when it'll disappear after a cutscene or you'll find the exact same one 200m away? Why even refuel when you can swap cars just as easily? Generally, everything feels too flashy, too new, not rugged enough. The buildings are old and falling apart but survivors have fancy new jewelry, mint condition clothes and pristine new guns and weapons. Cars had a couple of scratches but felt futuristic for the time and with spotless interiors. Safezones were "protected" by a single UV lightbulb at the entrance, it felt as if the world wasn't even affected by the zombie virus. Lore wise human settlements were few and far between, barely hanging on. No survivors on the streets, fighting, scavenging, whatever really.. Empty or bling bling brand new, no in between. Don't get me started on the volatiles, the game advertises hives, but those "hives" are actually a single volatile larva (the one stuck to the floor), which you kill and loot it's corpse - that's it. That's all. There's a couple of missions that involve volatiles, but it's mostly for cosmetics, there's not actual fighting nor any content revolving them in the world. They're also not in the dark zones, at all. So whether you go in those during the day or night, it doesn't really matter, the zombies will always be the same, a couple of runners, 1-2 screamers and the shamblers. It's not all bad, of course, the music was solid as ever, the graphics and gore were pretty well done, and the special zombies were more satisfying to fight against compared to DL2 (no more invincibility windows). Same goes with performance, it ran smooth with a couple of rare frame drops. But I wanted to point out the major flaws that could or will affect someone buying this game. For the asking price it's too short. Not enough missions, general worldbuilding activities, content or variety. I don't feel it has enough to be called a standalone game or warrant a price matching that.
I'm really disturbed at what's going on in the world right now. what's up with the feminist autonomy talking point always being fallowed up by mind control? who even thinks about this so hard that so many thinks just have the most outrageous attitudes and talking points. you have these check marks and list and its so overbearing, like how and why? we live in such an otherwise peaceful time yet all we hear about is feminist propaganda. apparently black people are immune because there are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ many of them in this game despite it taking place in the western alps with a les than 1% black populace. why? why the ♥♥♥♥ do they do this ridiculous ♥♥♥♥? WHY?!
