For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. I have no idea how it happened, but Dust & Neon captivated me into its game loop: wild west shootout among robots, base building (kind of), guns and perks purchase, mission selection. Rinse and repeat. This game is for adrenaline junkies who wants to shoot fast all the time. Story is there, bosses are good and gunplay is simple yet awesome. The reload animations are stylish as hell and the main source of my carpal tunnel. Recommended, but bear in mind you won't like it unless you really like its shooting system and its neon colour palette as there isn't much more else.
Dust & Neon is an enjoyable roguelite looter-shooter with decent replayability and a pretty solid gameplay loop. It's definitely fun for an hour at a time, and the missions you take have enough variety that it won't (normally) give you only the one type to choose from. The music meshes really well into running around gunning down robots, and the enemies drop (usually) quickly enough that you feel like a mighty Western gun-slinging human-robot hybrid. Three different gun types can be carried around - revolver, shotgun, and rifle. Each generated weapon will have a variety of stats, one of which is ammo capacity. You are not able to carry more than a handful of shells at start, but this can be increased via skillpoints at level-up. The weapon appearances are pretty standard sci-fi-flavored Western weapons, with typical glowing bits and circuitry, but there's still plenty of shiny steel and chrome to go around. The randomly-generated names can be pretty atrocious, though - my shotgun's name is currently the "Phat Whomper". The loot drops I find seem to be somewhat similar to what I'm already carrying, so I haven't had any instance of being suddenly and wildly overpowered, but I've consistently remained powerful enough to make it through the level. The enemies seem stay within the same range as far as I can tell, too, so the difficulty of a hard mission is more to do with enemy count and level. The cover system is easy to grasp, though sometimes the enemy robots do have a tendency to not be able to pathfind around it while coming at you. Only real gripe about it is that controls aren't as responsive as I'd like when switching between running toward cover, rolling behind cover, and then ducking INTO cover. There's a bit of roll, stand there, press button. Otherwise it's pretty intuitive. There are unlockables like a good roguelite, though there may be a bit more grind involved than other games in the genre - one of the upgrades available for me to buy in-game is 1,000 bits. I come back from a mission with about 30-50. Some of the skills you grab for your character when leveling up don't seem incremental enough to be worth it. 1% extra crit chance, or 2HP, aren't going to be as useful in the longrun as being able to carry more rifle rounds. But to each their own. All in all I think this is a solid effort. For $20 I'd be a little disappointed in the amount of content, but not terribly so. For a 50% sale, the game is amazing for the price.

The art is cool, the concept is decent, it's like a board game, but without the plot or concept. The game looks crude, gets boring quickly, the locations are empty and boring, there's too much competition in this genre, and there are better options.
I was really surprised by how good this game was. It was on sale, it looked really sharp, and someone in the reviews said it was solid on steam deck so I gave it a go. Well, I didn't put it down for 2 hours after that (which is a long session for me). Amazed that this is done by a solo developer, what a talent! I strongly suggest you pick this up while it's on sale because it's an insanely good deal. Definitely worth full price but a no-brainer on sale. Excellent twin-stick shooting action, Borderlands style loot system where you can quickly evaluate if what's dropped is an improvement. Lots of unique guns and reloading animations (love the way reloading works, by the way). Runs great on Steam Deck for sure, and cloud saving works perfectly between PC and Deck. I really appreciate that the runs are so short. One of my biggest pain points with rogue likes is that they often feel like a slog that can end in utter disappointment. When the instances are short and frequent it makes the format much more digestible.
pretty fun bit repetitive yeehaw buy it on sale
Dust & Neon is one of those games that starts simple and somehow becomes incredibly hard to put down. The shooting feels satisfying, the reload mechanics add a nice layer of skill, and every run feels like a fun little challenge to overcome. I really like the combination of fast-paced gunfights, roguelite progression, and the stylish neon-western atmosphere. The gameplay is easy to pick up, but there’s enough depth to keep you coming back and trying to improve. If you enjoy roguelites, twin-stick shooters, or just want something different with a cool Wild West aesthetic, Dust & Neon is definitely worth checking out. Really fun, satisfying, and addictive. Highly recommended! 🤠🔫
I got this shortly after it came out originally. it was kinda buggy, but worse it was very unbalanced. I stopped playing til I saw the latest update and figured I'd give it another shot. it's a great concept, and should be great fun. but it's still buggy. you can get stuck on the corner of steps and objects too easy and can't move ruining all the progress you've made in that level. worse though is it's still unbalanced. there are almost no decent guns found in the early game, almost every useful gun has to be bought from the shop. unfortunately cash collection is also very low in the beginning and you lose your guns if you die. also there's an unwinnable stage a few missions in so if you dropped all your cash on a decent gun from the shop, you're going to lose it. and there's no storage for the guns you upgrade so you're starting from scratch after every death. the "free" guns are useless garbage. so expect if you die fighting a boss to have to play a bunch of missions to build up enough cash to hopefully buy a decent loadout at the shop. you're not going to find them in crates. what you'll find are a bunch of guns where you'll get 5 or 10 points increase in accuracy or handling, but will do 90points less damage, or go from 6 capacity to 1 or 2, not a mix of positives or negatives to make it more of a difficult choice. scrapping them will get you a couple bucks, when buying them are several hundred. the setup plays like a looter shooter, but without the looting better shooters. what fun there is is buried under frustration and constant start overs.
This is a roguelite twin-stick shooter with some fantastic ideas, which also very aggressively reminded me why I tend to dislike roguelikes. First of all: The core gameplay loop is frantic and almost addictive. You are a gunslinger with a limited set of weapons (pistol, shotgun, rifle), which you can field-swap into better versions, but all of which force you to juggle ammunition down to the individual bullet. When you want to reload mid-combat -- mostly because your gun runs out -- you have to hit the reload button once to crack the gun, then frantically mash it to load ammo in bullet by bullet. If you do that while standing out in the open you get mowed down VERY quickly, so you also need to intelligently sprint or dodge-roll from cover to cover; if you are standing next to an object and not aiming you will automatically crouch, giving you protection from shots from the cover's direction while you fumble bullets back into your gun. Then you stand up to empty your clip, wipe out some robots, and reposition yourself for self-defense as you reload again. This gives the game a natural frantic rhythm that makes tracking every single bullets a lot more fun than it sounds. Even when advancing slowly against groups of basic enemies you have to stay diligent, plan how to deal with swarms and leave yourself a path of retreat. It's at its best when feeding this loop, letting you level and claw permanent progress (level-ups for skill points, and unlocking new regions and bosses) out of the game. But this is also a game that does not hesitate to punish you heavily for mistakes. On death, you drop all your gear; you quickly unlock an option to buy back your dropped weapons, but there's not really more than one optimal build strategy (the highest-damage guns you can find, with at least decent stats in other areas) and random weapons are generally so terrible that you need to lean on keeping your optimized kit once you've acquired it in order to make any real progress. This means that every death sets you back $1000+ in the game's main currency, when finishing a mission only clears you a few hundred. And this means that there is a HUGE negative incentive to try any mission types other than the ones you can most efficiently clear, plus throwing yourself into the meat grinder of bosses and dying enough to learn their patterns until you can clear them. (The most terrible are the timed bomb defusal missions, which are worse than the bosses because you have to fling yourself at full speed into the faces of giant mobs in order to meet the time limit, especially when the maps are large and unfamiliar, and getting overwhelmed is a surefire route to quick death no matter how good your kit.) And the game keeps cranking up the difficulty the longer you survive, so at some point it's just impossible to progress without the occasional ugly death tax. There are temporary upgrades you can purchase to help even the odds in tough missions, but few of them are worth the price, especially since that's cash you'll already have to spend a while farming if you're having trouble. And every time you die against a boss, they hide until you play several missions to unlock them again. So basically, the glacial pace of progress plus the steep death penalty makes this game on the whole feel grindy rather than fun once you start reaching your skill cap. Until then, it's exceptionally fun. But it's pretty tedious to push through to the ending. Once you start losing interest, do yourself a favor and set it down and keep your good memories of the fun early game.
