yet another 9 year old game on my 5 year old computer that wont run as good as Doom Eternal want to enjoy, but the optimization is ass
Recently purchased the $20 Humble Bundle pack that came with all the DLC and about ~30k gems. Through my own user-error I bought almost all the things (bags/heroes/etc.) directly on the pages not knowing that their "Shop" was called the "Emporium". I literally wasted all my gems and got a fraction of what I could have gotten from the bundles in the Emporium page. I spent my 30K gems inefficiently without even getting everything or knowing that I wasted my gems. This is totally my fault- but also why don't their individual pages show their best deals?? Dark-pattern'd me into wasting my gems when they could have shown bundles on their respective pages. Currently in contact with support to hopefully refund my gems but based on their policies I am doubtful I'll get it back. For people who bought the the Humble Bundle DLC pack, you're going to want to buy the "Etheria Essentials Pack" which has all heroes, max out bags, one bank vault, material vault, shard vault, and four hero slots. Then you'll have a ton left over. I never saw any comments or anything online on how to best spend these gems so I foolishly just bought things individually. This is definitely on me for not researching- but also WHY WOULD THEY NOT SHOW BUNDLES ON THEIR RESPECTIVE PAGES? WHY IS IT CALLED "EMPORIUM" AND NOT SHOP/STORE? DARK PATTERNS FOR DAYS AND PREDATORY MTX. Honestly, just gonna quit because of my own user-error if I don't get my gems refunded but the level of micro-transactions and DLC costs are insane for the average person if you don't get the Humble Bundle- and even then idk if it's worth $20 when there are other games out there that are better. Will edit/change my review if they at least let me repurchase stuff with gems but X to doubt. edit* Took 1 second response from an AI chatbot to say "Nah, get fcked." "Hi there, Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the world of Dungeon Defenders! We totally get how confusing things can be when you're just starting out, especially with all the different bundles and options in the Emporium. Unfortunately, all store and in-game purchases, including gems spent on individual heroes and items, are final and cannot be refunded or exchanged. We know this might not be the answer you were hoping for, but we want to be upfront so you can plan your future purchases with confidence. If you have any other questions about the game or need tips on making the most of your gems, feel free to ask. We're here to help you get the best experience possible! Best regards, Chromatic Games AI"

they destroyed a simple but fun idea with a lot microtransaction. i don't mind for quote "skins" cause its a f2p game but CHARACTER'S WHY!!!! there will NEVER be a good reason to put them behind a paywall(a expensive one at that) gameplay balls down to either hope rng doesn't F you on drops cause lol no hope with non regulated player shops(seriously everyone thinks there garbage is worth a arm and a leg. kinda sad but funny tbh) currency is....horrid, painful and not all that great. if anything it is a simple way to tell your player base to uninstall the game the shields emblems(free way to unlock chara) you get are so far and few between that it takes a long time to earn. not only that but it's capped why? what logic was there for this game to make a way to earn ppl favs then end up being something that should have never been difficult to accumulate in the 1st place. don't get me wrong - play with friends is fine. play with randoms is meh (community has too many bad apples tbh) play solo well not gonna move very fast with the default setups. i do hope they stop with this game and any future development of the series dd1 was the pinnacle of it all dd2 = trashcan with wallet cashgrabs and no sustenance dd awaken = yeah that was trying to be something that was never gonna work besides trash with 0 replay dd going rogue = again trying for a trend without knowing the 1st thing that makes a roguelike good was a bad idea overall if you see this avoid the game all together since the devs can't seem to understand what made dd1 the best in the 1st place and why ppl have had dd2 fade into obscurity.
Dungeon Defender 2 used to be such a good game, I genuinely mean that. But nowadays... It just feels like the devs have given up. - The UI is outdated - Windowed Fullscreen, is still just Fullscreen - Some menu points you can't click on, or can even scroll down in - Main focus is seemingly, more content, more skins, make more money; the ingame store shows this perfectly, the first thing you see is the battlepass that isn't even cropped right, it just screams "add it in and be done with it" - The Shard Vault, a BASIC QUALITY OF LIFE FEATURE locked behind a paywall of 20$, the solution to a problem the devs created - Shards still being barely distinguishable from one another - Basic QoL features, for exmaple, try opening 100 shard packs, you can either do it 1 by 1 or all at the same time, the difference? You have to click less if you do all at the same time, except now for the next 5 minutes you will be relentlessly spammed with a celebration noise and screen-wide popup, because every shard counts as a "legendary item", better to just mute the game and clean the dishes - You still can't walk through towers during prep phases, so getting from A to B can be quite annoying because you will likely have to jump and doing so will almost always catch you weirdly on the geometry and will have you akwardly slowfall off to the side. - Still no added defense variations for when you upgrade them - The Templars barricade and AA tower are literally just slightly altered versions of map objects, which is a nice touch, but coupled with the previous point, just further shows that they have lost their way. I have logged onto the game when there was a new update or hero just in HOPE to see something having changed for the better, but no, it is still the same, nothing has changed aside from new content and trying to make money off of cheaply recoloured skins and calling them "Spec-Ops". I feel sad. It was such a good game.
Onboarding experience was rough, private tavern is locked without explaination, going to town leave you entirely directionless. Almost every button loops into the microtransaction store, including hitting "inspect" on a player. Every NPC in the town is part of the microtransaction machine and entirely vapid of interesting function. Trying to find ANYTHING that I could actually interact with was a headache. Then there's the tutorial, which doesn't explain that you're about to go into a tutorial, which was frustrating when trying to just jump right in with friends. At least it ran well on my machine.
A sequel inferior to its predecessor in every way shape and form. Less maps, less challenges, grindier system more based on stats and spam than it is on strategy like the previous game. It has none of the personality, the map design is far worse, the gear is annoying, the menus, the music, the art direction are all vastly inferior. Just go play the first one.
gameplay-wise, super fun. it's just annoying that it takes ~50 hours to unlock 1 character.
A disappointment from the first Dungeon Defenders in every way. Don't bother.
Anyone who has played a tower defense game before and enjoys the genre would really love this game. The game can be played solo or multiplayer, and I love getting to play this game with my best friend. This game is based on fantasy elements, which I also love.
Very engaging game. Has a nice unique style and personality, there's almost nothing like it. Everyone should try it at least for I'd say 50 hours. I hear it's still going strong
