About
Drone Sector fuses the gunship close air support role with the drone's observation and mission command. Inspired by the real-life AC-130 gunship and MQ-9 Reaper drone, it merges these powerful roles in a futuristic setting, where advanced technology and heavier firepower enable you to take on more complex and dangerous missions. While not a pure military simulator, the focus remains on tactical planning and execution, with greater flexibility in mission design and weaponry.
Guide your squads as they advance through hostile environments to achieve mission objectives. Command with precision, helping them avoid traps and eliminating high-priority threats with your overwhelming firepower. Outnumbered by enemy forces, you’ll need to maximize your technological superiority to turn the tide.
During each mission, you’ll need to make strategic decisions about resource gathering. Send your ground squads into buildings or key areas to collect vital resources and research documents—but this comes with risk. Stay too long, and you may lose your squad to overwhelming enemy forces. Decide when to extract and when to push your luck for valuable rewards.
Between missions back at base, upgrade your gunship, squads, and weapons. Manage your ammo production and research new technologies to improve your chances in the field.
Fluid, responsive gunship weapon controls
Multiple camera modes: color, night vision and thermal vision
Commanding self-sufficient squads on the ground
A variety of infantry and armored unit types
Resource collection and ammunition management
Weapon research and manufacturing
Squad building and upgrades
Handcrafted levels with randomized missions

Great fun. Potential buyers should look at how the developer did the hard work on this without AI. Lots of room for growth but what is here is worth the 17 Freedom Bucks. 8/10. So here is my criteria: --------------- Strategy level: It's all about resource management and timing. The fundamentals of the real thing! 6/10 (my average, 4/10) -------------------------- Depth/Immersion/Story: Not very deep but I don't think that matters. I wouldn't look at this title if your baseline for gunship operations is Arma 3 mods but it's got some unique elements like loitering management that make it very unique. There isn't a story it seems. It's more a consistent formula with some varying variables. 4/10 (my average, 5/10) -------------------- Player Interaction; Best way to put it is that this game is an exercise in kicking a hornets nest. Whether you get absolutely rocked versus eradicate the swarm is based on how well you control the combat. Your units aren't guaranteed to survive no matter how good you are so that aspect doesn't seem as pleasant but whether the mission is a total loss or a total victory is mostly reliant on your decisions. 8/10 (my average, 7/10) ----------- Execution: This dev put some quality in this that should be in every game of this type. I feel that this is a good game and it shows that the dev cares about it. Not everything is done in a way I would necessarily go for but looking at the processes and the flow it seems pretty intuitive and straightforward. 9/10 (my average, 7/10) ------- Replay: As it is, I want to give this a higher rating but that's not realistic because games of this type don't have the inherent ability to be replayed like games such as Helldivers or GTA. Here's the catch- I don't think this dev is interested in cutting bait yet. I think that this is more coming and if the dev opened the game up to modding, it might be a 7/10. Multiplayer support in a PVP or PVE format? 8/10. As it stands 3/10 (my average, 5/10) -`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-`-` MY SUGGESTIONS, MOST IMPORTANT TO LEAST: -Mods, mods, mods. Everything else here except multiplayer would make this possible. Weapons, units, and other features could bring this to life in a way that could make this THE title for gunship sims. -Multiplayer. Yeah, everyone wants that in games and it's possible that there isn't a way to accomplish this if there are design limitations. But imagine your friend controlling the enemy and trying their best to take you down; or competing for kills or objectives completed as a second gunship; or operating as a support either on board your gunship, controlling some of your weapons, or some other implementation. Priceless but may not be an option. -Story Campaign. Tall order but could be really beneficial for replayability as well as getting more people on board. -More AI types and weapons. Imagine napalm or gas bombs creating AOE flow changes or nuclear weapons that disrupt your systems. Maybe even a lock on weapon system. Imagine fighting air units or the fabled zombie. -Destruction. I believe the dev said that this would be difficult so no pressure.

Playing a game like this is an experience. First of all, as a game, mechanically it is excellent: Simple, responsive, very satisfying gameplay loop that feels good to repeat even on the limited number of maps available in the early access - cut's a fine line between the skill required to operate in missions versus manage your craft - and the developer already plans to further granulate these systems for more engagement, without making overly complicated. I personally am looking forward to the increased attention given to player ground units, different infantry types and maintenance loops that the dev has already said is in the list of features on the way - Specifically the ability to load and unload your infantry into your respective APCs and IFVs. As it stands now, content incomplete - I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS GAME AND IT IS WORTH THE MONEY IN IT'S CURRENT STATE. Ok, now the Vibes review. If you subtract the buzzword generic near future sci fi jargon from this game, and look at it for what it is: basically a realistically functioning AC-130 sim, and in reality, in this game, our drone is -while highly capable with single operator streamlined controls - a real AC-130, with a veteran crew is even scarier. It makes you realize the actual power disparity that western nations have with any non near-peer enemy (of which there are actually none in the world) This game if you squint at it is excellent propaganda for the western forever war machine, and since I have stock in Raytheon, Rheinmetall and BAE systems, I for one am all for it. 10/10 game 100/10 NATO propaganda. Buy it.
YES, BUT: At this stage of development, the game is lacking balance, some features on the tech tree are under development (some of them are very important). The "Heat" the enemy develops against you, should be in some manner countered with, or put a slider of "heat amount by enemy" when choosing a carreer. I found very confusing the way you repair your drone, when you reach low hull there is no way to repair it without things you only find under missions. If developers create a quality of life balance sliders and put some new animations like the drone geting ready or geting airborne (some visuals like that) it would be amazing. I think the game has potential, but needs to focus on playabillity first.
Probably the most fun I've had in an avant-garde RTT game in a LONG time. This game is my dream game. A proper gunship simulator with RTT mechanics. So far it is very promising! The artstyle leaves something to be desired but mechanically its actually a very interesting arcade-sim of the concept. It feels like a tech demo at this stage and it suffers mostly from a lack of content. Like all early access games I don't really sink many hours into them because they "burn out" pretty fast even if the game itself is good. Its MUCH simpler than it looks but has even a fair amount of emergent depth at this stage. Ace Combat but for a wacky fusion between an AC-130 and an F-117 Nighthawk. The concept is genius and theres been a surge in this microgenre over the past few years. Infantry Combat is actually really fluid and I was worrying that they would get stuck on things but so far they actually act really well. You have to switch between Command and Fire mode constantly and because there is alot of micro it does feel like you have to babysit units. Also compounded on the fact that these missions have timers (enemy reinforcements come in if you wait too long) so you really do have much urgency to do operations as cleanly as possible. One criticism is that Orbit and Radius change mechanics are kind of hard to see what the exact effect of them is relatively to altitude and speed which are much easier to read. Maybe have like some sort of flight graph feature for Radius and Orbit. Like I am still not sure how Radius and Orbit actually effect my detection or acquiring by the enemies. On Normal Difficulty, the game is very easy and the new enemy units get introduced to you slowly. The missions are very short (2-8 minutes each) which is something I like because so many RTT games have 30+ minute missions with constant intensity and it just makes me tired. I enjoy the mission length and the fact this game embraces quick mission makes it very unique for that. Theres some weird bugs: Like in the Hangar I cannot see the APC and the Infantry models even when the camera pans to them. They are just not there. Get it on sale right now because I believe it is a worthwhile investment and the game is in good hands. Keep up the good work dev!
Very fun game but can get a little boring doing the same missions over and over. Can't wait for 1.0!
Fun a bit bare bones but the foundation is there looking forward to see what comes next
Very cool, lots of fun.
