The game becomes tedious and boring after a few hours (I didn't complete the story). The gameplay (boring after a few hours: we keep meeting the same enemies, we don't have better equipment anymore...), the story is a joke (so far it seems to be just an excuse to travel along the river). There is no leveling up for soldiers or individual skill trees, they only improve with equipment, which is a strange choice when there are not enough different equipment and equipment slots). The exploration is boring, after a few hours everything is the same (biomes visited: meadows and swamps, which are visually different, but otherwise almost the same). I have only come across two types of dungeons so far with little variability. The problem is that the game doesn't seem to have a single strong point. Honestly, I think the idea of adventure on the river is good, but it needs better execution. It would help a lot if crew gradually improved to some extent (each member individually), greater variability of equipment and enemies, improved story, added monsters and challenges. It would help immensely, if I could feel that there was always something new waiting further down the river, a bigger challenge, a bigger adventure, at least until the end of the story (better level design).

I really like this game. The river is beautifully rendered, the combat works well, and the music is great - very Souleful if you get me. Sadly, the shenanigans over the save games has knocked me out of the game and lost me 8 hours of play. I can't locate the apps data folder. I reported a problem over the King being a hopeless swimmer, and it was corrected the following day. Perfect now. The killer bug that means you can't close obstructing windows persists, however. Also, without crafting or quests, the exploring and fighting, good as they are, becomes a tad repetitive. I reckon I'll come back in a month or two for a second attempt. Quality gear this here - just early days. The music definitely evokes wandering the first Cyrodil back in the day. {Its da oboes} UPDATE NOV 2023 : I have now had my save wiped 5 times by updates. The achievement update returned me to the start - with raft upgrade and all stats preserved. This more recent one finds me back at the start with nothing. Clean slate. Wunderbar ! Enough ! I'll restart one more time when Early Access is done. Bye for now . . .
Interesting concept, easy game play you can lose a lot of hours too. However, it seems the devs have left the game. A lot of little bugs and then there isn't a whole lot to do once you get into the river system and the few upgrades. Currently, the achievement system doesn't work correctly and no updates since launch, so I have to say this game is not recommended. Hopefully an update comes through at some point. Probably an AI game.
Bought to support the game. Quick play lets me know I will like this when its finished. Nice graphics, feels like a good gameplay loop. Look forward to watching it grow.
Per il momento sembra molto semplice e carino.
This review maybe premature. The game is good but not captivating. Striking and movement with your personal character/avatar is awkward. Sailing, exploring, and controlling your party work just fine. I enjoy the concept. It has a niche... much like the Last Train Home in reverse. I will come back to it. ---Personal Rating Scale--- ☐ 1 - Not worth trying for free ☐ 2 - Only try it for free ☐ 3 - I shouldn't have paid for this ☐ 4 - Can't get to 10 hours ☑ 5 - Can't get to 50 hours ☐ 6 - Won't make 100 hours ☐ 7 - 100+ hours well played ☐ 8 - 300+ hours of fun ☐ 9 - 500+ hours and in my dreams ☐ 10 - 1000+ hour addiction
unique, interesting little game, can easily get $20 of value out of it.
Jogo de rpg onde as skills e equipamentos devem ser elevados sempre para melhor e manter seus soldados vivos exige um micro gerenciamento, mas é bem divertido. Dica: pegue os loots ao máximo!
While it is in early access, Dreadful River is still a very fun game in its current state and has a lot of potential with future updates. The game looks great for the most part, with a nice art style and good visual effects. The fact that it includes both naval and land/dungeon based combat gives the gameplay an interesting duality where certain units are better on land but less effective on the water and vice versa. The development team is very active, constantly patching the game and adding new content, which is always nice to see, and it is easy to report bugs or give feedback from within the game. Overall, if you're willing to buy and play a game that is not yet finished but shows great promise, I would recommend Dreadful River.
