About

Dread Admiral is a turn-based naval roguelite where you command a persistent fleet across a hostile archipelago. Every ship you build carries forward, and every ship you lose is lost forever. Every turn you spend on a mission is a turn less for the future - and a turn closer to a relentless enemy engulfing you.

Earn ranks, unlock Perks and technology, and earn upgrades for your Flagship even when you lose.

No two campaigns play the same. Navigate unpredictable mission modifiers against AI Admirals with distinct personalities and tactics, deciding when you fight and when you flee.
Every turn, the Black Fleet gets closer - will you gather more resources and ships, or will you abandon your mission to buy time?

Alternating Activations - You're always looking for the next best move, as is your opponent. Every ship has been delicately balanced to have a role to play.

Dread Admiral is perfect for players who enjoyed FTL, Urtuk: The Desolation, or Darkest Dungeon.
You will lose. You will make tough decisions. You will run out of time. You will fail mission objectives. You will eke out victory by the slimmest of margins against an AI that adapts its fleet and economy to yours.

Cool aesthetics, animations, and soundtrack. People are saying it's inspired by a 1993 game called Grandest Fleet which I never played or heard of. Insanely hard (on I assume Normal, I did not touch difficulty at all) with unreliable controls. Misclicks can cost you the game. Queued movements are the devil. It seems this will only get worse with the density of ships required to progress (i.e. hellish micromanagement which I'm not in to at all). The dev clearly put a lot of love in to making this, but I don't think it's for me. https://steamcommunity.com/app/4492990/discussions/0/590688498095391635/#c590688498095395153 The game expects you fully blitz at all times (yes, there is a count down timer, but it's more than that), which I also do not enjoy, and the developer has said this is their intention (above).
Biggest complaint is that half the time you're stuck waiting for 20 ships to move across open ocean with no option to skip the animation. The rest are as follows: Turn timer (That if you go over, the next level's turn timer will be reduced.) If you rush you get slaughtered by enemy starting fleet. If you dont rush you get blobbed by ai that starts with massive economic advantage. Can't turtle because of aforementioned turn timer. XCOM style RNG makes for extreme inconsistency. (Enemies WILL dodge everything and oneshot your ships. They have RNG and time on their side after all.) If you lose one (1) ship in the opening mission (taking perks other than those that give bonus starting ships is an exercise in futility btw) you might as well just restart, it's the less annoying option. EXP gain so slow you can watch it race drying paint. Controls are ok, frankly I've seen worse. Bad gameplay will see you losing half your fleet on the first engagement. Good gameplay sees you micromanaging 30 individual units and pray you dont misclick a recon plane or battleship barrage which will send you back to bad gameplay in an instant. Horrendous to play. Unfortunately very fun. One of those abusive relationship type indie games. Pray that you hate it. Refund it. Otherwise you'll be stuck with it.

If you are a turn based naval warfare fan and a fan of pixel art then this is a must play! My playing time is higher than it seems due to the demo. Very impressed with the elegant and challenging gameplay and absolutely love the cinematic pixel visuals. Lots of attention to detail, there is even a fleet painter where you can customize the color and flag of your ships. Despite what some demo reviews say, you can repair ships while still building new ones provide there is an open sea adjacent to the port. As other reviews have pointed out, driving straight to the enemy port to end its production of new ships seems essential. It is a entertaining challenge to do that while conserving your forces and invading neutral cities, all while fighting prowling submarines. Your liberated/conquered cities can eventually match the enemies production, so there is tension between running the gauntlet and getting your own bases up and running. Still too early for me to tell about scenario variety. I have seen what I'd call Blitz and Normal, the former requires you to move very fast due to Black Fleet arriving so much faster, the latter gives you time to build more ships. I am assuming there are also scenarios where you have more time to build fleets, and in some ways you control this by what kind of cities and ships you leave behind. Hoping to see more scenarios where you are also (a) finding hidden fleets prowling the map, (b) dealing with large pre-exist fleets already at anchorage -- a kind of don't wake the dragon too early sort of challenge (c) building fortress islands -- game has intriguing options for fortifying island cities. These scenarios might already be in the full game. I look forward to finding out. Either way, I still recommend this game, provide you enjoy the challenge! At normal difficulty it is bone crushingly hard, many will find it too hard in some ways -- as it too often relies on overwhelming enemy forces. You will definitely lose ships and make mistakes, but that also reflects a game that requires strategy, tactics, and skill.
Addictive just-one-more-turn gameplay with a pretty tight and clear ruleset. It's a roguelite so expect some learning curve and the occasional merciless beating, but I think it's pretty reliably winnable once you know what you're doing, at least on Normal. Biggest problem is that it's very time consuming - it doesn't feel slow but there are a lot of moving parts each turn, each with a bit of animation time, times a significant number of turns. At this writing (less than a week post-launch) there are occasionally significant bugs, though they tend to get addressed fast.
A very nice turn-based tactical game, pretty similar in scope & theme to The Grandest Fleet (1993 DOS game). Good music, neat visuals, strong AI to pose a good challenge. Campaign has an FTL-esque flow to it and there's also some metaprogression to keep replays interesting.
Challenging Naval TBS done right, where each ship has a role to play and encourages you to use them all and consider what you're doing to win. Draws elements from the likes of Panzer General, Advance Wars and FTL amongst others into one package, with some meta progression on top, plus decent atmospheric soundtrack.
It's a simple but fun game. combines some elements from different games, hope to see some expansion of unit types and possibly more story in the future.
This is a really fun turn based naval tactics game with a full set of mostly WW2 ships. Sneaky subs, patrol boats, carriers, battleships, etc.
The game is difficult, perhaps overly so but I find it quite fun! Also the soundtrack is killer.
