Dragon Spirits

通关了，非常棒的一款RPG回合制游戏！！类似于类宝可梦，但又有很多优秀的改进和创新。战斗取消了蓝格，是cp和sp两种进度条来决定招式的，搭配加护很大程度增加了游戏的自由度。每只龙类升级还能解锁特有的两个天赋，各有特点，满级20级，避免了唰级的枯燥，数值填的比较不错。剧情中等偏上，很温馨的一个故事。自由度比较高，可以随时随意地探索，支线也很丰富。

Dragon Spirits is a very interesting game. It has many problems, but on the other hand, it does have a certain charm to it that works out. Overall, I enjoyed myself, and it's quite playable if you like JRPGs with tactical depth and staring at PNGs of dragons. The big draw in this game is the dragons. It's a creature-collector 1v1 battler, where you watch pictures of dragons you collect duke it out. There's a very interesting tactical depth to it and a multitude of builds you can make across your team. However, the mechanical progression curve is almost entirely flat; I had reached the maximum level, 20, in all my important dragons before the midway point in the game. From there, the game throws increasingly unfair "boss" challenges at you to compensate. It becomes less "making a mechanically interesting team" and more "find the exact combination of dragons that can punch through the boss". So the game is more "puzzles" than "team-building". Such is the route many RPGs go. The biggest problem in the game is the English translation. It's awful, likely machine-translated and left untouched. A lot of the game can be very confusing because of it. Once you get past it, the quest-to-quest writing in the game goes from "bland" to "pretty good", and the overarching plot is touching, but a little repetitive and boring in of itself, and takes away from the immersion considerably sometimes. If everything is a dream, then nothing in the dream really matters, you know? The graphics are a mix of "looks like stock RPG Maker assets" and "beautifully hand-drawn art". The dragon sprites in particular are all very good. If you like looking at really good pictures of dragons while overly long battle animations play out, this game is good for you. It's a really dang big game for how humble it presents itself. I finished the main plot after 60 hours, and that's only after doing about 75% of the sidequests. It has a lot of bang for its buck. I hope to go back and 100% it at some point, but some of the challenges it presents are well and truly brutal. Overall, I enjoyed most of my time in the Dragon Spirit Islands, and I'll probably check out the sequel in the future.
