IF you are ever going to take a review to heart when purchasing a game. please let it be this one. DD2 is a game that primarily shines in fighting large monsters in interesting ways, as well as the exploration of new areas. where it fails is its length of its story, as well as some of the quests that range from "Babies first evr qwuest" handholding, to something so mind numbingly vague that its hard to understand what the hell your even suppose to do (oops you didnt talk to "random child #6" and thus you cant progress the quest.) Even with the combat being as good as it is, the fact there is no level scaling turns a thrilling and mildly challenging fight into a mildly annoying time sink over the course of the game. The story is really short, and feels a tad rushed. you could finish the whole game in less then 3-4 hours if you avoided fights you didnt need to take. The world also feels really small once you start exploring it proper. Now this was a good play, and i will be back for the dlc, but i might mod in some level scaling depending on how that plays. Its a incredibly immersive world, with the pros and cons of that, but the entire story and most quests felt....meh. Interacting with the monsters was the best part of the game. no. i liked everything BUT the story. the story made no sense half of the time, and the other half was pointless to the point that all mystery is thrown out the window instantly. its also VERY short. the combat? Chefs kiss. minus the lack of level scaling. exploration? perfect and amazing. But the story is such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that i can ONLY recommend it with a long winded paragraph that you should go into it knowing that the story will be ass. the greatest fumble ive ever seen. the mystery and wonder of how there can be two arisen and how that might affect the cycle is immeadatly explained away to you within the first 15 min of the game IF that. in fact there is no mystery at all as everything is explained to you before you even start the quest. hell the quest to figure out what the godsway is and what it does STARTS with explaining what it is and what it does IN THE SAME SENTANCE. ive never had a game feel so immersive and so wonderful to explore....only to be punched in the gut by the horridous story. the first half of the game is utterly useless as well, to the point that if you werent there in vermont, it would literally change nothing. Not to mention the queen who cursed you and then sold you into slavery just gets away with it. and dont be upset about spoilers, you learn all of this the very first time you met brant at the very start of the questline. im only here bc i loved the gameplay. and its honestly the only thing keeping me from telling people not to buy it. you know that there is a issue when the sidequests are better then the main story by a longshot.
⚠️ NOT RECOMMENDED (Post-Update) Game was quite broken from the start. Community mods fixed it to a state where it was REAL fun. Then Capcom's update broke it again — worse than before. What broke: Missing textures / graphics corruption (V-sync somehow causes tearing now) Random crashes — several per day, sometimes at load so that I must go back to an older save to be able to continue at all 81 Wyrmlife Crystals suddenly disappeared from my inventory (6+ dragons worth) Main pawn vanished — no explanation Quest design was already hostile; now at least 50% of the available quests permanently bricked due to timing windows Technical reality: The crash logs show access violations in Capcom's native game code (WeaponSelfDestructController.update), not in mods or REFramework. The update changed memory structures and the game is now accessing invalid pointers. This isn't user-fixable. The insult: Mods were doing Capcom's QA work for them. Instead of working with these modders, Capcom stole some of their work but broke the game. It is now unplayable. No rollback option. Can't go back to the working version. Can't fix what Capcom broke. Can't recommend in this state. I was considering the October DLC. Not anymore.
I hate this game now. I was having fun with it until after 28 hours of playing it became impossible and I can't get past a certain quest because I keep getting rag dolled with zero chance even with a cheat trainer going. WTF?!?! Did you guy even remotely think this through?!!? I'd love a refund.. probably too late.. just screwed on money too. I'll never buy another game from a crappy game company that does this kind of crap.

I am short at things like this: It is great.
