Don't Let Me Fade is an interactive adventure about memory, identity, and loss. Piece together fragments of a life - even if a simple teddy bear is the last symbol of connection to oneself in a world without time.

About
Don't Let Me Fade: adventure, interractive narrative [created in 48 hours as part of GG-jam 2025]
A narrative exploration game about memory, identity, and the slow unraveling of time.
Created during a 48-hour game jam, Don’t Let Me Fade invites players into a poetic and emotional journey through the mind of a man losing himself to Alzheimer’s.
The jam's theme, "A World Without Time," is interpreted here as a metaphor for Alzheimer’s - a fading world where memories slip away, and the boundary between past and present becomes unclear. Time has no meaning when memory itself is dissolving.
You play as an elderly man wandering through surreal, dreamlike environments stitched together from fragments of his memories… or is it his present reality?
As you explore, you’ll piece together the outline of a life once filled with love, family, joy - and inevitable loss. The man is searching for a teddy bear, convinced it’s his last remaining link to who he truly is.
Short narrative experience (~10–15 minutes)
Interactive story fragments reveal themselves as you explore
No combat or puzzles - just presence, memory, and atmosphere
Simple first-person movement through fading spaces
An atmospheric, emotionally layered soundtrack by Aink aka. Anna Glaid guides you through the shifting tone of the journey - from warmth and clarity to uncertainty and silence. The tracks Forget-Me-Not and Why does the heart beat were composed and recorded entirely during the jam.
A fragile farewell to memory, identity, and everything we hold dear.
Will you remember what he cannot?
Play now, and step into a fading world.

『Don’t Let Me Fade』
Don't Let Me Fade is a very short game, but it is one of those experiences that managed to leave more of an impression on me than I expected. It is a quiet narrative adventure about memory, identity and loss, following an elderly man wandering through strange places that seem to be made from pieces of his past. The main thing he is searching for is a teddy bear, which he believes is his last connection to who he really is. There is not much traditional gameplay here, but the story is clearly the main focus. What I liked most is the way the game presents memory without constantly explaining everything to me. The environments feel uncertain and dreamlike, and I slowly start to understand that what I am seeing is not necessarily a straightforward representation of reality. Things can disappear, change or feel disconnected from what came before. I found that approach much more effective than simply having characters explain what is happening through long conversations. The actual gameplay is extremely minimal. I mainly walk around, explore the fading environments and interact with story fragments as they appear. There is no combat and there are no traditional puzzles to solve. Normally that would be something I would criticize heavily, but here I think it works because the game is trying to make me experience confusion and loss rather than give me a conventional challenge. I was more interested in what the next memory would reveal than in looking for something to fight or solve. The atmosphere is probably the strongest part of the whole experience. The pixel art has a warm and nostalgic feeling in some moments, while other areas become much more empty and unsettling. The soundtrack also does a lot of work, moving between softer emotional sections and moments that feel much more lonely. I think the contrast between warmth and uncertainty fits the subject matter really well and gives the short journey some genuine emotional weight. The obvious weakness is the length. I finished the main experience very quickly, so there is not much here if I am judging it as a traditional game. I also think some of the ideas could have been explored further if there had been more time and space for the story to develop. There are moments where I wanted to know more about the character and his life, but the game deliberately keeps things brief and leaves some of that for me to piece together. Even with that limitation, I think the fact that it was created during a game jam makes the result quite impressive. It takes a difficult subject and builds an entire atmosphere around it without needing complicated mechanics. The game is free to play as well, so I have very little reason not to recommend giving it a chance if I enjoy emotional narrative experiences. I would definitely play it when I am in the mood for something thoughtful rather than something action heavy. Overall, Don't Let Me Fade is less of a conventional game and more of a short interactive story. I liked its use of surreal environments, simple exploration and music to communicate what it feels like to lose pieces of your own identity. The short length stops it from reaching its full potential, but I still think the emotional side of it works remarkably well. It is a small experience, but one that stayed with me after I finished it. Rating: 7.1/10
