yeah
I think I am happy that I played this game. I am not sure that I enjoyed playing this game... To explain why, note that it seems pretty interesting but is also depressing. I read somewhere that that was deliberate on the part of the developers. If you write code, whether for games or otherwise, parts of the game could potentially feel very meta for you. Yes.. definitely one of the weirder games I have played. Not sure I would want to replay it though.
nice
Overall polish and quality writing speak for themselves, yet a game can be polished and the writing sharp while still being an unenjoyable experience.
The first hours are very strong setup, but poor follow through, tediousness, and the misguidedness of the writer leave it lacking. It is overrated because it is unique and has some interesting ideas. The writing is the point of the game, not the gameplay which is dice rolling and slowly moving around. Without spoilers the story is a big letdown and a drag to reach it. THE GOOD - The writer is talented and has intriguing dialogue that at its highpoints is better than most games placing you in an alluring mystery with memorable and likeable characters in a deteriorating town with abstruse "powers that be" directing things and opposing each other. With attractive choice options on what to say and otherworldly advice from your horrific necktie there is merit to the writing. THE BAD - Despite what is claimed the writing is filled with clear political messaging, a depressing view that the world has little meaning, and is morally clouded. Its themes suggest
that turning a old church into a disco hall and letting loose dancing may well be the peak of the human experience in life.
I'd much rather read a good book then play this let alone replay it. Replaying is what you are supposed to do because many options are either locked due to limited skill points or because you missed a dice roll. It is too much of a slog to be worth it for the small differences you'd get, even if you miss something big its not worth it at all.
this is the most beautiful game i've ever played
