Great, unique artstyle, bumpin' FM OST, AND incredibly fun gameplay that has you see yourself improving every run you do? Yeah, this is pretty good.
Amazing game, lots of arcade action, nice graphics and cool solid mechanics. It's definitely a fun game. There's a lot of variety in the level design which keeps this linear game fun and engaging until the end. There's a lot of mechanics from the beginning, which some might percieve as overwhelming, but since you can rewatch the tutorial, the mechanics are all fun, and the beginning of the game is quite lenient, it's not a real problem. It's a game you can pick up and play and simply have fun, but there's mechanical depth to it. I played in basic mode, which is not really an easy mode, but rather an mode where you don't have to start from the beginning if you lose all your lives, so it's gonna kick your ass. The difficulty is fair tho, only the this one "boss" you have to chase down took me a long time to figure out how to beat it, but your mileage might vary. Things I didn't like were: the gravity mechanic was a bit too confusing at times. If you fall down a pit, the game shoots you back up and that can get confusing or you might hit a ceiling and go back down, or simply disappear like it happened to me in one autoscrolling level. The text goes too fast, there's an option to slow it down, but I think it should have been a bit slower by default. This is more personal, but I don't like to fight so many bosses, I prefer running around levels, but here you spend more time fighting bosses than doing anything else; however, some games are boss rushes and this is what this game is going for and does it well enough for me to actually finish it. Overall, highly recommended. I'll try the other difficulties in the future.
worst part about this game is realizing that when i (hopefully) eventually make my own Alien Soldier (1995) successor it will have this to compete with Legitimately very good. The dev's signature art style is in great form, and I love all the skeletal animations. The soundtrack is impressive in that it captures the Genesis sound in a way I think most "retro" games fail to. It's no walk in the park either. Some of the bosses are brutal! The controls are a little awkward at first, but again, as an Alien Soldier send-up it makes sense. Definitely a highlight of 2025
I'll write more once I get deeper through the game, but I've finally found a game that captures that Alien Soldier feel. A few quick thoughts: 1.) The game is balanced around the "shoot straight ahead and strafe" control style, which is a really inspired design choice. 2.) I love the hand-drawn art style. 3.) The soundtrack absolutely rips, and captures a lot of what I love about Treasure's soundtracks for the genesis.
Indulgent in a way more games ought to be, and all the more emotionally resonant for it. The Treasure-inspired action platformer every kid who grew up with even one of their games wanted to make. We've all imagined our own Disaster Arms in our heads, and you can actually play this one.
Muy buen juego, mucha variedad en sus jefes, controles muy fluidos y buena dificultad con un arte muy bonito. Muy recomendado.
https://youtu.be/7eEfJw1gxtk Primarily a boss rush platformer/shoot-em-up the tight space and limited signaling makes a lot of the fights less rewarding than desired.
Wow, don't miss this one. Gunstar Heroes meets Pizza Tower in a game of high intensity short bites. It's half run n' gun, half boss rush, all style and heart. An insane amount of effort has been put into the artwork and the music, which is pure irony because most levels are flat out designed to be completed in three minutes or less. It can be as easy or as hard as you want; it's one of those games that rewards players for becoming skilled at it while still being a full and digestible experience for those who are less good at video games (myself). Soundtrack kicks major a$$. Definite highest point in a game with a lot of high points. Five stars, grab this thing.
