Dirt 2 + Showdown = Dirt 5?

13 on sale2 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 2 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Aug 21: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 13 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Worst of a good franchise.
Dirt 5 in the name but actual breathtaking landscapes in the game You won't find a more beautiful racing game on the market today. Dirt 5 is what happens when you take offroad cars from the Flatout games and put them into a world like Horizon Zero Dawn. It's certainly eye candy for people who enjoy driving around to new places and taking in the scenic routes in different countries and climates Gameplay is very easy to pick up. I do enjoy the podcast style narrative approach they took with the campaign. It feels like a couple of old pals cracking jokes over beers talking about old times they spent on the race track. Theres a lot of tongue in cheek humor here. The AI is competitive and some races you really have to be almost perfect to win. For modes you have rally, racing and freestyle for the most part. This game would be even more fun with a derby mode. I mean it's got the cars to throw down in a good old fashion stadium derby so I feel there's a huge opportunity there for continued player engagement and business. As for the cars themselves well at least for me it's very over the top in terms of color schemes but hey at least ist stands out from most racing games in that sense. Great for a pvp with local split screen. There just aren't that many games that have this important feature anymore. Grab a buddy, and get this one on sale for a dirt load of fun
THIS GAME IS TRASH. DRIVING GAME WITH NO WHEEL/PEDAL SUPPORT FOR NAME BRAND SIM EQUIPMENT. GARBAGE CONSOLE GAME.
vroom vr- AH CRAP IT'S A SPRINT CAR
Dirt 5 has all the hallmarks of a sports-ish title: solid gameplay, loads of licenced vehicles that will ensure the game gets eventually delisted and dozens of licensed music tracks sure to force streamers to mute the music. What's not to love? Note: this review primarily focuses on the career mode as that's what I've played the most.
Gameplay
Dirt 5 is a racing game with the usual objective: reach the finish, and do it first (most of the time that is). Using an assortment of cars across various types of race, you try to speed past the competition towards the finish line. The various types of race each have different car types, each of which operate differently. The Sprint cars, in particular, are the most noteable of this, in that they gain a noticeable tilt whenever you turn either direction like its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Desert Bus. Cars have several stats, but the big ones are indicated by stickers; Performance, Handling and Reward Multiplier. First two are self explanatory, but the reward multiplier increases your rewards depending on your stats, with better stats decreasing this multiplier. Essentially, use ♥♥♥♥ cars = get slightly better rewards. Progression is nothing crazy. As you finish races you earn XP and Dirt Dollars, which can be used to unlock and purchase new cars and cosmetics. In addition to that are Sponsors, which are separate progression tracks that give you more rewards and money in exchange for completing specific objectives during races. As of writing I've played this game only on a keyboard, and it does feel like the devs made the game run on PC and then remembered that PC games aren't played with only gamepads and assembled something in a day; the actual in game controls, while obviously worse than a controller, are good enough and I have no complaints there, however there is utterly no support for the mouse in menus (navigated via the arrow and enter keys) and some features such as the Livery Editor are blocked without a gamepad, in addition to the Gymkhana tutorial not showing keyboard prompts (only instance of this in the game I believe). While far from a bad way to play the game, and I will continue to play with it, keyboard is definitely a disadvantage.
Story
Career mode has something resembling a story, but it's more an excuse to justify its 100+ races than much else. While I haven't played much, I don't particularly feel that there will be actual plot developments or anything, it's really just "go become famous at racing" and then you go do that.
Graphics/Performance
Played on a laptop with an i7, 8GB of RAM and a GTX 1060. Stored on HDD. I don't know what specific values I'm running as I've left graphics on automatic, but I presume on the lower end due to visible shadow pop-in. Despite that, the game looks pretty solid, and for the most part runs pretty well despite a few stutters. The load times on a HDD aren't the longest, but I definitely feel that they're a bit longer than they should be.
Verdict
I hereby declare DIRT 5 as
PRETTY COOL
Maybe not full price worthy, sure, but on sale I'd say it's a pretty decent pickup.
Incredibly repetitive and unrewarding to play. The AI rubberbands and feels like old Need for Speed games where they'll just keep up with you regardless of how well you drive. The career mode is just a pretty small list of stages you have to repeat over and over. The only positive with the game is that the stages look incredible and I really like how dynamic the weather and time of day feels, but that's not enough to keep me interested after I've played through them a few times. I think it's overpriced even for the previous sale prices, it's worth a few euros at most.
