Beautiful game that masterfully combines teenage life with the supernatural [Eng and Pt-Br review]
I'm always on the lookout for alternative novels; they're something I really enjoy! When I saw the art for this VN, I immediately bought it. I simply loved the pixelated grayscale look and all the dithering! Then I saw it was about horror and gay! A real treat for me; I couldn't ask for more! As for the game, I simply adore it! First, I have to say that the OST has the perfect style: 90s-2000s-style alternative rock, with no vocals and those sweet guitars! The plot is pretty straightforward, basically about a girl saving money while waiting for college classes to start, but something supernatural takes over her life, threatening even the entire town. I thought the game would stick to the same premise the entire time, but everything moves very quickly. The writing is straight to the point, with no fluff. Several things happen, and new problems arise. And all of this seamlessly interweaves teenage and supernatural themes, all very interesting. There are no empty SOL moments focused on silly fan service; everything is very planned and real, which I really appreciate. All the characters in the game are well-developed and interesting; it's like a '90s TV series with a supernatural twist; it's a very good read! The teen dramas aren't empty; they're deep and well-handled, and everything develops at just the right pace, leaving gaps for you to ponder that are later revealed. There's no forced drama; everything is natural and masterfully told between the lines. Again, I'd like to praise the art; it's really good! But at the same time, I wish there were more CGs. The same can be said for the OST; while it's wonderful, I wish there were more tracks because they end up being too repetitive. The game also features partial voice acting, which is cool, but it makes it suffer from the "Nintendo dialogue" where the character has longer lines and then only says: "Okay, Yes, No." This happens too much and gets a bit annoying. The writing is also very dynamic and fast-paced. In the supernatural parts, it focuses heavily on action, and everything ends up happening very quickly. This isn't exactly a bad thing, but the horror atmosphere could be better explored in these scenes. However, I understand that the game is still in early access, and these are all points that will be improved as development progresses. In short: this game is incredible! The art and OST are beautiful, and the plot is deep and interesting, blending the life of a teenager with supernatural elements. I recommend this game, even in early access, to anyone interested. Take advantage of the lower price now and please support the developer, because I trust them!

Pros: - Art - Story/writing - LGBTQIA+ characters - Heavy topics are handled quite well - Unique concepts - No typos that I'm aware of yet! Cons: - Pacing - Not a lot of horror elements, wanted more - Overuse of similar/same voice line, primarily "yes" instead of also using "okay", "sure", "yeah", "uh-huh", etc. - Very little voice acting, wished there was more! - Wish there was more pops of red in specific scenes around objects of importance maybe? Only saw it a handful of times.
Great game!! Love the art style. The characters feel like actual people and the story is enticing and leaves you wanting for more. 10/10.
A spooky vibe, a compelling mystery, easy tunes to go with some interesting choices to make. First time for me playing a game in this genre, but I'm glad I did. (Low playtime on account of having already played through the demo version for 8 hours)
I was looking for a horror VN demo around Halloween when the unique art style of DEVIL'S LIMINAL caught my attention. This game is something special. The art is fresh and interesting, a welcome change from the typical anime style, and it definitely sets an unsettling mood. I played the free demo on my Steam Deck, and it’s the perfect platform for visual novels. The great OLED screen and easy sleep/wake function are ideal, and the game looks sharp on it. What truly kept me locked in were the characters. They are so interesting and feel so real; their dynamics make the entire story incredibly engaging. The writing for the main trio is truly solid. I’ve always been skeptical about Early Access and never really understood the point of buying in early. But I was so impressed with the story, the characters, and the unique style of this demo that I immediately purchased the full Early Access version to support the developer. This game changed my view on Early Access. I have no regrets and cannot wait to see how the rest of this brilliant story unfolds.
Well-written visual novel story that starts off in the natural and slowly builds into the supernatural. I'm not finished with the existing content so far (as of the initial early access release) but I find myself looking forward to seeing where things go next. The supernatural elements so far have surprised me, and the occasional use of color is very well done. At the same time, spending time with potential love interests provides a nice break when things get too heavy. The story dips into some complex spaces, but content warnings are prominently featured in the settings without giving much away. [disclaimer: I previously playtested an early build of the game with the developer, who is a friend, but purchased the game to play myself]
Devil's Liminal is a hypnotic Visual Novel that understands that true horror lies in the warping of the familiar and finds fertile ground in its suburban Arizona setting - I've never found the sun-baked streets of the American Southwest so ominous and foreboding. The narrative plays out with a dream-logic that leaves you constantly intrigued about the characters and their motivations, and the way scenes can abruptly end or transition to the next day before satisfyingly resolving is intriguingly obscure, always hooking the reader with new questions, hidden motivations, and dark implications. You're left just as unsettled and unsure of what to think as the game's teenage characters as everyone becomes entangled in a lost in a world of demons, ghosts, and dream rituals. If you enjoy psychological horror, or the subtle horror of surreal works like Donnie Darko or Kafka on the Shore, definitely give Devil's Liminial a read.
Devil’s Liminal is a rare kind of visual novel experience—the kind of game that crawls into your brain and stays there. The art style is beautiful (and at times haunting) and I look forward to seeing how scenes continue to expand visually over time. What begins as an intimate, emotional journey... confronting trauma, abuse, and the complications and complexities of human connection... quickly unfolds into something darker and stranger. The game sets itself up to be a clever and engrossing balance of psychological tension, relational intimacy, and a confrontation with unknown forces. This already feels like something special. I can't wait for the next round of updates because I need to see where my choices bring me and there's a LOT that I still need to unpack! PLAY IT! Let it get its claws in you. You’ll be thinking about it long after you step away.
Hoo boy. This game is a heavy one. You'll be hit by the oppressive environment of the desert, of a nursing home, of poverty, and of institutional violence. But sometimes you don't want to be happy - sometimes you want to be seen, and want to hurt in ways that mean something. The writing and art is excellent, and I want good things to happen to these characters. Give it a try and see the special sauce this game has.
