In the final(?) route of this award-winning VN series, Seiji survives an attempt on his life by Kanoko, aka secret magical girl no. 3. The leads all point to a childhood tragedy and a certain deep-space Majin, so why him? And will Kanoko leave the dark side to save Seiji—and mankind—from herself?

Award-winning Destiny Star Girlfriend third installment
Spacey visual effects, CG artwork, and anime-style sprites
Star-studded cast of professional Japanese voice talent
Spring 2019—the first year of Reiwa—but even as Japan rings in a new era, nothing ever changes for Seiji and his sleepy student ways. Aside from the arrival of new hottie Maja, who joined his class in the winter, each month so far has proven to be as brain-numbingly dull as the last. Until...
One fateful night, a mystery assassin shows up to literally suck out Seiji’s life force! His would-be killer is none other than Kanoko, a second-year at the academy—and a covert magical girl tasked with protecting humans against monsters from deep space. It all seems to trace back to a tragedy in Kanoko’s past when a powerful Majin massacred her family... so why target a complete nobody like Seiji?
To complicate matters, the Starry Sky Council is investigating an anomaly in Kanoko’s body, which means she and Seiji must move in together until further notice. But with Kanoko’s usual ice-cold retorts betraying some decidedly vulnerable weak spots, what will become of Seiji’s sanity this time around—and Kanoko’s? Find out in this third and final(?) installment of Destiny Star Girlfriend!
Kanoko Satake
Yuki Nekomura
A Stars bearing the name “Sadalmelik.” Though still a sophomore, her Stars skills already surpass some of the organization’s best.
She possesses exceptional skills, but her aloof demeanor and difficulty in socializing make her something of an enigmatic presence. Obsessed with her campus senior Yuuri as her magical-girl master and mentor, she devotes her time off to serving her every whim. Amazing in the kitchen and a wizard at domestic chores.
Maja and Petra are now also colleagues in the same organization.
“Me? With a lover? I couldn’t begin to imagine that...”
(Heroine of Destiny Star Girlfriend 3. Route not available in games 1 and 2.)
Majin Kanoko
Yuki Nekomura
Kanoko... as a Majin?!
Boasts mind-blowing magical powers and greater combat prowess. With her desires awakened and unleashed, she is bolder about her ambitions, yet her devoted qualities remain strangely intact...
Read Kanoko’s route in 3 to discover her origin story.
“Being set free has made me quite honest, hehehe...”
Yuuri Kamiizumi
Ichigo Momoi
A First-Class Stars bearing the name “Rigel.” As an expert manipulator of all things light magic, she pulverizes demons to dust with overwhelming baseball-themed finesse.
Popular on campus for her cute looks and nice-girl undercover persona. Beneath the mask, while still upbeat and generous, she can be conceited and a sore loser who often gets stuck on one-upping others. For all her bluster, it doesn’t take much to crack her defenses.
“I gotta say, as Kanoko’s master, I’m kinda pumped about this one.”
(Heroine of Destiny Star Girlfriend. Route not available in games 2 and 3.)
Maja Krienke
Ion Momoyama
A young woman scouted and contracted by a Majin under mysterious circumstances, she has dedicated herself to the dark arts—and wields a mean sword to boot.
Persuaded by Yuuri and the others, she has since severed ties with demonkind and joined the Starry Sky Council alongside her “little sister,” Petra. Seriously single-minded, her reliability in a pinch earned her the respect of allies in her hometown, although she can still be absent-minded at times.
“I will give it my all as a member of the Starry Sky Council.”
(Heroine of Destiny Star Girlfriend 2. Route not available in games 1 and 3.)
Petra Grün
Yuka Kotorii
An underclassman hailing from Maja’s native hometown. Thinks the world of her “big sister,” preferring to stick by her side at all times.
Aptly described as a rowdy, excitable puppy, even by those who know her. Gritty, chatty, chronically unshy, and an unapologetic icebreaker—all probably thanks to a wilder childhood than most.
“Yeah, this time I’m just one of the gang from the get-go!”
Fujiko Yonamine
Yuuha Nitta
A retired Stars who bore the name “Ancha.” An active member of the Starry Sky Council’s East Kanagawa Branch. Revered for her powerful healing magic since her demon-vanquishing days, she continues to provide support spells while devoting her time to guiding the next generation of Stars.
Has her fair share of airhead moments, but is overall a mild-mannered pacifist. Chestily vaunted campus-wide.
“I might not look it, but I’m a former Stars. Count on me next!”

The final main entry of the Destiny Star Girlfriend series is one I overall still quite liked, but it's probably the most inconsistent of the main trilogy. While I was pretty neutral on Kanoko before DSG3, I thought this installment made her a lot more memorable. In fact, she's probably the heroine with the deepest character depth and development, and the cutest, most natural romantic dialogue of the three heroines. I also thought the usage of the magical girl setting was by far the most utilized and taken seriously. It's particularly effective as this takes place in a branch where Seiji, the main three heroines, Fujiko, and even Petra have a strong sense of camaraderie very early on that stays consistent throughout the game. This makes it better than DSG1, which was basically the Yuuri show, and DSG2, which only started developing group dynamics around halfway through the main story. While the comedy is still solid, it's less prominent than in the first two games. This is partly because Kanoko isn't bombastic like Yuuri, nor a goofy airheaded weirdo like Maja. They somewhat compensated for this by bringing Kanoko's "closet pervert" tendencies much more to the forefront, making it her closest thing to a recurring comedy gimmick, which was generally pretty funny. Speaking of comedy, I didn't like Petra much in DSG2, but they made her a little better and funnier here, partly because Kanoko was able to be a good snarky foil to Petra's hyper spazziness, giving them something of a "vitriolic best friends" dynamic. They also thankfully heavily calmed down on Fujiko being a girlfailure at making magical items, and Samonsuke as a satellite character didn't have any cringe humor gimmicks like Hughes. A minor flaw I have is that despite the nice romantic dialogue, the way they got Seiji and Kanoko romantically together felt just a bit too reliant on contrived conveniences. I understand DSG is ultimately a light-hearted game, but Seiji getting "linked" to Yuuri and Maja in DSG1 and 2 respectively was a lot more natural. In contrast, DSG3 had to rely on them being in a similar meeting, having very specific events play out in certain ways, and they even later "justified" this by bringing up past lives and apparently Kanoko's role bringing out the "Destiny" part of Destiny Star Girlfriend most. Kanoko's closet pervert tendencies coming to the forefront was ultimately the biggest double-edged sword to this story. On one hand, it led to some pretty funny jokes, and generally, I appreciate stories that show girls can be just as, if not more, perverted than guys. Embracing that in both a humorous yet serious way in a relationship was nice. On the other hand, this led to DSG3 by far having the most "eroge fanservice" moments to an extreme. Kanoko has by far the highest amount of random panty shots. But the worst part is how Kanoko's perverseness ended up being very plot-relevant. While this might sound like a good unique way to make her character stand out, I thought it ruined some of the serious parts of the magical story. For example, the "MC and main heroine needing to be within one meter" gimmick of the DSG series ended up being an excuse for even more eroge fanservice moments. Kanoko's thing for lewdness apparently extends to what felt like a Fate/Stay Night moment where "bodily fluids = more power," which was a bit too silly for me. The other two heroines did not need this, and while I understand this game was supposed to take Kanoko's lewdness into account, this was pushing it. This is nothing compared to a few of the later chapters, which were easily my least favorite part of the whole series. Let's just say it took one of the best plot twists in the whole series and turned it into a stupid excuse for Kanoko to live out apparently some of her pent-up sexual fantasies. Basically, all of these were non-consensual, and I was sad a really cool twist was brought down by over-the-top eroge H-scene moments. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to think this was funny, take it seriously, or find it... hot? Thankfully, the last couple of chapters somewhat made up for this with a really cool reference to one of my favorite anime, Dragon Ball Z. Let's just say it was nice to have Potara fusion actually be properly useful for once. And the last chapter did have proper remorse and returned to cute romance dialogue, so on a potential re-read, I could at least skip the stupid H-scene moments. I also thought the actual ending was the cutest of the main three games and felt the most conclusive in many ways. So while I like DSG3, with some of the best parts of the trilogy, it sadly had some things that really bugged me. Thankfully, the things that bug me I can overlook or skip in future re-reads, but even when I ended up finding some of the dumb "eroge fanservice developments" in DSG2 rather tame in comparison to 3, there's just stuff I can't overlook for the overall rating and rankings. Regardless, the Destiny Star Girlfriend series is now easily one of my favorite "modern" moeges, and I'm glad a sister company to Minatosoft was able to make a light-hearted magical girl VN series work well. DSG2 > 3 >= 1 Maja > Kanoko >> Yuuri
It is Kanoko's turn here and she delivers wonderfully on the horny closet pervert aspect just as expected since her foundation is very solid. The weakest part of this entry is the main story, it has some "random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ go!" moments that made me roll my eyes a bit even by Destiny Star Girlfriend standards. There are some fresh ideas sprinkled in, like not reusing the magic rope plot again. Nonetheless, just don't take it seriously and you will have a good time, the conclusion is decent enough. On the positive side, this one is packed with the highest amount of fanservice and lewdness. (high quality!) Only play it with the free patch, it would be a waste to not experience all of it. Shikako/10
Its more Destiny Star Moege Maho Shoujo goodness you will need it
Destiny Star Girlfriend 3 is a fantasy romance visual novel developed by mirai and published by Shiravune that brings the Destiny Star Girlfriend trilogy to a satisfying conclusion. Combining magical-girl action, heartfelt romance, supernatural intrigue, and character-focused storytelling, the game expands upon the world established in the previous entries while introducing a new heroine whose personal journey becomes the emotional centerpiece of the narrative. The result is a charming and engaging visual novel that successfully balances romance and fantasy while delivering a meaningful final chapter for the series. Once again, players step into the role of Seiji, an ordinary young man whose life has become increasingly intertwined with magical forces and powerful heroines. What began as a chance encounter with the supernatural has evolved into a deeper understanding of the hidden world that exists alongside everyday life. In this installment, Seiji's attention is drawn toward Shion, a highly respected magical girl known for her strength, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to her duties. Unlike some of the more approachable heroines seen earlier in the series, Shion initially appears distant and emotionally guarded, making her one of the most intriguing characters introduced in the trilogy. The game's strongest asset is undoubtedly its portrayal of Shion. At first, she seems almost impossibly composed, carrying the burden of responsibility with remarkable confidence. However, as the story progresses, players discover that beneath her calm exterior lies a young woman struggling with expectations, personal sacrifices, and the loneliness that comes from constantly placing duty above her own happiness. Her character arc is handled with considerable care, allowing players to gradually uncover her vulnerabilities and better understand the emotional weight she carries. This layered characterization helps make her one of the most memorable heroines in the series. The romance between Seiji and Shion develops at a deliberate and believable pace. Their relationship begins with mutual respect rather than immediate affection, which helps create a stronger foundation for the emotional journey that follows. Through shared experiences, magical battles, and everyday interactions, the two gradually become more comfortable with one another. The narrative allows their bond to evolve naturally, making each step forward feel meaningful. As trust grows between them, so does the emotional impact of the story's romantic moments. One of the aspects that makes Destiny Star Girlfriend 3 particularly enjoyable is its ability to balance multiple tones. Comedy remains an important part of the experience, with humorous conversations and awkward situations providing regular moments of levity. These lighter scenes help make the characters feel approachable and give the story a warm, inviting atmosphere. At the same time, the game is willing to explore more serious themes, including personal responsibility, emotional isolation, self-sacrifice, and the challenges of pursuing one's own happiness while carrying the expectations of others. The fantasy elements are also stronger than ever. The magical world feels more developed and interconnected, providing a richer backdrop for the story's events. Encounters with supernatural threats, powerful magical abilities, and conflicts involving hidden organizations create a sense of scale that extends beyond the central romance. While these fantasy components never overshadow the character-driven nature of the narrative, they provide enough excitement and tension to keep the story engaging throughout its runtime. Visually, the game continues the series' tradition of high-quality artwork. Character designs are colorful, expressive, and immediately recognizable, while the various illustrations effectively capture both emotional intimacy and magical spectacle. Shion's design perfectly reflects her personality, projecting strength and elegance while hinting at the emotional complexity beneath the surface. The numerous event illustrations are particularly impressive and serve as highlights during many of the story's most memorable moments. The audio presentation contributes significantly to the overall experience. Full Japanese voice acting brings the cast to life, helping players connect more deeply with the characters. Shion's performance stands out due to the way it conveys both confidence and vulnerability depending on the situation. The soundtrack is equally effective, featuring a collection of romantic, uplifting, and dramatic tracks that complement the changing moods of the narrative. Together, the music and voice work help create a polished and immersive atmosphere. As expected from a visual novel, gameplay focuses primarily on reading dialogue and following the story. There are occasional choices, but the emphasis remains firmly on narrative progression and character interaction. While players looking for extensive gameplay systems may find little complexity here, the streamlined structure ensures that attention remains on the romance and storytelling, which are unquestionably the game's strongest qualities. Another notable strength is the way Destiny Star Girlfriend 3 serves as both a standalone romance and the culmination of a larger series. Returning players will appreciate the expanded lore and connections to previous events, while newcomers can still enjoy the story without feeling completely lost. The game does an admirable job of rewarding longtime fans while remaining accessible to those experiencing the series for the first time. Although some familiar visual novel conventions remain present, they are executed with enough charm and sincerity to avoid feeling repetitive. The strength of the character writing, especially Shion's development, helps elevate the narrative above many genre clichés. Her journey from a duty-bound magical warrior to someone capable of embracing her own desires provides the emotional foundation that makes the story so compelling. Ultimately, Destiny Star Girlfriend 3 succeeds because it understands the elements that made the series appealing in the first place. It combines lovable characters, supernatural adventure, romantic storytelling, and polished presentation into a cohesive and enjoyable experience. As both a standalone visual novel and a conclusion to the trilogy, it delivers an emotionally satisfying adventure that rewards players with a memorable heroine, a heartfelt romance, and a magical world that remains entertaining until the very end. Rating: 8/10
Proj Steam Deck:

Make Chinese and English speaker feel at home: Bilingual Curator
