Nice game, had a full range team going (range in this game is op) and slaughtering every stage without the need to grind... until stage 15 that is. Game crashes no matter if I resume battle or load from camp. Had several BSODs during earlier missions but was really enjoying the game and ignored it but the latest bug above is a total killjoy.
So this game is not worth $20. It's like an ipad game, just a series of turn based tactical battles with very little story. BUT it has interesting character classes, random attribute improving equipment from a variety of sources (loot, store, rewards) and many stats, skills and tactical situations and combinations that have me saying just one more turn. Fun in 15-20 min increments when you want to play a game, but don't want to get into a EU IV campaign or something heavy. For the price, it's got a bunch of interesting decisions and if you can put up with the old school graphics, it's fun and bug free for me so far.

I couldn't recommend it. It is a good amount of content for the price, and there is an interesting variety of character/class types, but it is lacking compared to other tactics games. I would suggest looking at something like Fell Seal, XCOM, BattleTech, Warhammer 40000 Gladius, Disgaea, Warborn, Monster Sanctuary, Monster Train, Into the Breach, or Banner Saga instead, all of which can often be found on sale for close to the same price. Card Hunter or Warbands Bushido are also similar and free. +Wide range of characters/classes +Choose a party of 6 +Variety of abilities +Variety of equipment +Speed up toggle +Difficulty adjustment +Can repeat missions for XP/gold -Barebones options -Very minimal story/background -No key rebinding -Tooltips/info often lacking -No visible turn order -Autosave only -No way to choose formation/starting layout -No voiced dialogue/narration -Speed toggle is not saved / must adjust every battle
The game is fun but you can't position your party the way you need. to. When using special abilities, the characters often target the wrong direction. Game play needs to be improved.
I played through on normal. I didn't lose a single encounter, the gold flowed in the parties abilities were just too easy to compliment each other, especially the AP geyser the stone dwarf makes. I had so much gold that I'd just go to the shop, fully equip all 6 characters - the game mechanics are pretty simple. The graphics are rudimentary, the AI is very basic, the story is almost non-existant. the encounters are very small areas, its highly repetitive. TLDR : Too easy.
Is this game in a league with games like Baldur's Gate III, Pathfinder Kingmaker, Divinity II....No. Is it fun? Yes. Intuitive. Varied. Simple. No need to get bogged down in something else, just a straightforward game. Fun to play! Cheap! Get it!
It cost four dollars and its 20 hours of fun. Yes, it's too easy. But you can up the difficulty, and its fun to mess around with the different abilities and combinations.
Playdough-like graphics, torpid gameplay, and an interface that only an asset-flipper could love; Demon's Rise should have never left the mobile platform.
Believe it or not, "Demon's Rise - War for the Deep" is not an asset flip. While the game is made primarily out of other people's assets, with placeholder/stock assets and engine elements all taken from asset stores, the developer credited the people who created those assets, which means this isn't the usual attempt to pass of someone else's work as their own. However, while we understandably must call out and warn gamers about the unethical behaviour behind plagiarism and asset flipping, there's the other main reason we hate asset flips (even if this isn't exactly one). It's because they're awful if you try to take them seriously as a game. This is because, and it should be no surprise, when "developers" can't work out how to create their own professional game assets, or lack the budget to hire staff who can, it turns out they're also not really capable or competent at any of the other parts of game development either. And that results in awful games. Games like "Demon's Rise - War for the Deep". "Demon's Rise - War for the Deep" is a Nintendo Switch game, not a PC game. It's not a great port and suffers from a few technical defects from the handheld gaming centric design. What is it, then, in terms of being a game? This collection of other people's assets is like an RPG adventure game if you remove the "adventure" component completely... a bunch of canned turn based tactical encounters that you fight through with your own party or with one of a handful of premade parties if you want to get straight into the "action". And it's boring. There's a little bit of window dressing, but not much, then you're straight into a hex based TBS with no real motivation to play it. There is a welcome depth to the RPG system, a lot of classes and stats and gear, which is nice, but it's not backed up by a rich enough narrative or quality technical execution (because it's a Nintendo Switch game). From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game assets are fairly mediocre/low quality which fits with the idea they weren't developed by the game creator... they look like they're "just reasonable enough" to go on sale as part of an asset pack. The issue of asset flipping aside, ultimately the quality of these assets is low and low quality always makes for a less than optimal gaming experience. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam? "Demon's Rise - War for the Deep" has the completely unrealistic cash grab price of around $7 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. For comparison, the $7 asking price for this game could get you games like "Lethal Company", "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" or "Kingdom Come Deliverance". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
