Before the most recent update i would absolutely have recommended this game. However since the devs has decided to implement the use of AI in lieu of actual human translators has made me no longer able to support this project. A game that is largely about environmental conservation using a service that does more damage to the earth more than any other industry in history has a sad irony to it and i mourn this game that i once loved and put so much of my time into. Even if they do remove the AI from it they will still have used it in the first place and it is truly disheartening to have to see this.
Goated game. After I finished Stardew Valley I was looking for a chill game to fill the void. This game did that and more. I was not going into it trying to 100 percent it, but I enjoyed it so much that I felt like I had to. 10/10 would recommend.
"It's good." So they told you when you first installed the game. You put on your yellow scuba gear and arrive at the sushi restaurant. You put in your first hours and feel the steady joy in improvement. You work hard, and you try to make it work. It's honest work. But soon, that gives way to tedium. You work tirelessly. Put fish on the table. Farm. Dive. You're taking night shifts, extra shifts. You're doing the right thing. Good honest work. So you're told. You help villagers whom you've never met. You help random passerby with the dishes that bring out the best memory in them. But suddenly, it hits you. What am I doing all this for? These people, they thank you but they never truly acknowledge you. You put in the work. Extra work. But you never get promoted. You never get to own the restaurant. It's always about someone else. Never you. You keeping going, looking at how much content there is in the game to do. Yet, everything. Everything feels the same. You have to work harder. That's how you get by. But suddenly, there is a moment of clarity: what is this all for? Nothing. It is all for nothing I tell you. And today is the day I quit this job! It's time to make a change. To give up the job security of being a fish diver, to give up the stability of catching fish everyday. I shall follow my dream of becoming an accountant! Such is the power of passion!
Simply one of my favorite games of all time, and I have neither the time nor the language to give it enough praise. It's amazing. If I had the money I would literally buy it for every gamer I know, for a game-life without dave the diver is a life half lived. Make sure you get all the DLC... the cost to value ratio of this game i absurd. I can only say I loved this game and will be back when there is more DLC.
I don't want to play balatro. I want to play dave the diver. The minigames and cut scenes were already grating but this is too much. This stuff is *fine* but there needs to be a way to turn it off. I just want to play the game.
... 84 hours later, I think what kept me playing the most was the collection aspect. There is something incredibly satisfying about filling out the entire Marinca, getting everything to three stars, and eventually looking at a screen full of golden cards. At some point I wasn't even playing because the game was difficult anymore — I was just determined to finish the achievements and complete every collection I could. The diving itself is also genuinely good. The oxygen and weight systems constantly force you to decide whether one more fish or one more piece of loot is worth the risk. My longest single dive somehow lasted almost two hours, which probably says enough about how easy it is to get carried away down there. The story isn't anything extraordinary, but it's charming enough, and the pixel art, music, and general atmosphere make the whole game extremely comfortable to play. I also liked how the crossover content was handled. Balatro, DREDGE, and Godzilla all felt like fun additions instead of advertisements awkwardly shoved into the game. The constant introduction of new mechanics never bothered me either; most of them helped keep the game fresh. The only part I really didn't enjoy was the pet-raising minigame. It felt much more tedious than it needed to be. The late game is actually easier than the beginning once you have enough upgrades and money, but by then the challenge isn't really the point anymore. For me, it became a completionist game — and a very satisfying one. A very cozy game that somehow turned me into a marine-life card collector for 84 hours.
