Database Detective: Minor Crimes Division

I'm also a person who does SQL at work and was shocked to find out I could actually enjoy it under the right circumstances. The gameplay really makes you feel clever for putting stuff together - I'd recommend it to anyone who likes detective games regardless of their familiarity with standard query language.

If you are intrigued enough to read reviews, stop reading and start playing the demo. It's a great introduction to this game, it's long enough that it feels substantial, and progress carries over if you decide to buy the whole thing! If you aren't convinced, read the rest of my review or others, because this is a game that is too fun to miss. This game is such a great time, in a way that I didn't expect at all. As someone who has never worked with SQL, I thought it might be interesting to try to learn it. But this game is so incredibly charming that you never feel like you're just memorizing or using random keywords. It's paced in such a smart way that you can get started solving mysteries in minutes, and you learn along the way instead of up front. And even though it starts quick and easy, it gets a lot more complex. Genuinely, my only complaint is that the ratio of programming to investigating shifts later in the game from 50:50 closer to 25:75, but this could be great for many others who enjoy investigating more. And even then, the hint system has different categories for programming and investigation, so people can get help on whatever is more difficult for them. Ok, seriously, go try the demo if you're not convinced. It's free and you'll quickly know whether it's for you or not.

As a CS Major looking for work in a post AI hellscape, this made me feel better. As a puzzle lover looking for sleuth games based around investigating websites, this also made me happy. Activating both sides of the brain is a big challenge, and lacking in one or the other will serve as a roadblock, but thankfully the hint system is gentle enough to coax you towards the goal without spelling it out. Fun little brainteaser, especially for people looking to flex their SQL skills.

Great for programmers, the humor is the best

I wasn't expecting how challenging later cases would get - this is indeed a full blown detective game, not just a SQL tutorial! The story takes some fun twists and turns, and I always enjoyed seeing how a case would resolve

I will find that war criminal no matter what. I might have to stay up all night but its worth it. 10/10

really good game, amazing storytelling, very comedic, and really tested my knowledge on SQL. i would personally put this game right next to the likings of the case of the golden idol or obra dinn for how intricate the mysteries and clues and details are. also the dev is hilarious af lmao
