dnf. As a relic of games gone By, this gAme is interesting enough but I personally cannot recommenD playinG At all it in ModErn day. ITs age IS on full display with all the clashes between modern hardware and 2010s indie games. Be it the slow camera turn as you point and click around, the janky animations that never end, or the outright bugs which prevent puzzles from completing, I cannot recommend it. There are so many other games which execute on the same idea in a much more interesting way. If you miss old point and click games from websites like AddictingGames then this might feel like a scaled up version of that which is what kept me trying with it for so long. And if you can get this game on sale for a buck or in a HumbleBundle with the games you actually wanted (like I did) maybe its worth a try. But ultimately my limit was at the 1.5 hour mark when the game's age collapsed in on itself. I learned train codes for you INSPECTOR! You showed me your train signal turning on INSPECTOR! Why didn't it stay on INSPECTOR?!

Now idea what to do and bored AF.
I have mixed feelings about this one. First of all I like the very dark creepy atmosphere and setting, with ghosts popping up and giving you a scare, and the interactivity with the objects in the environment which makes the game feel much more alive than a solid pre-rendered backgrounds, also the sound effects are well designed. That being said the interface even though it's much more polished than in the previous entries of this series, it's not great still and I find the slow panning camera movement too slow. And the puzzles even if well thought in some cases there are others a bit repetitive, also some of the "quests" (for lack of a better term) that you gotta do are pretty tedious, the game pace it's pretty slow with lot of back and forth which adds to the tediousness. So even though the way this one it's designed makes for a smoother gameplay than previous entries, I did find it a bit boring by the end. But that's my personal taste, others might not mind this and be able to enjoy it a bit more, it's up to each one of you.
I beat this game after YEARS of it sitting in my steam library. I got it through one of the gaming bundles; it wasn't one that I wanted though I figured I would play it when things were slow. And my thoughts are mixed on it. First and foremost, I'm not an adventure gamer. This genre makes no sense to me. So I had a walkthrough open as I played the game to save myself some grief. The good parts: this game has a great sense of atmosphere. It's dark, grimy, spooky sounds all around. It sets the tone for a fun ghost story. I'm probably missing a lot since I've not played the other games, though that's on my wish list (thanks to Grimbeard). Essentially, you play as the Inspector who's looking for a little girl who went missing years ago. It's interesting. Especially when the other ghosts come into play. However, not having played the other games leaves me with a lot of questions about the plot. The down part: this is a point adventure game done in the style of Myst. The puzzles aren't as obtuse, though I'm glad I had the walkthrough or I would have been playing for hours feeling frustrated. The Bones puzzle, finding the hole in the wall, and the first lockpick puzzle really threw me for a loop. The Bones puzzle was easy after I heard the audio a few times (plus reading the walkthrough). The lock-picking is a little weird. You have to click around it in the right spots. And if you click the right spots in the correct order, it'll make a little jingle to tell you have made the correct choice. The walkthrough had one of the spots a little bit off to the side, which was throwing me off until I figured out the audio clue. Some parts that make up the solution to the puzzles are well hidden. The constellation puzzle comes quickly to mind. And thank goodness someone posted pictures of the correct ones! I could see this game getting a resurgence in popularity due to the intuitive controls and the HOG community finding it. Lost Souls is no where near a fast of a play as a HOG. It is a slow burn from start to finish. With that in mind: I'm mixed about the game. It's a fun spooky campfire tale. It's a slow burn (both good and bad). And it is somewhat enjoyable on its own. But the solutions are nowhere near as intuitive to be solved on their own without a lot of trial and error. If you can get it on the cheap, that's a decent reason to try it out. Otherwise, it is skipable.
Good game!
Saving doesn't work for me.
