Curses and Chaos is 2D arcade brawler with a wave mechanism. In each level you need to beat a pre-determined set of enemies in each wave and a boss. The fighting scheme is very simple, you just kick and punch. There's not much of a strategy, just hit and avoid being hit. Summary: + Graphics, sound and animations are nice + It's a fun arcade game, if you like hard games + Easy to understand, you rely only on luck and skill + Has a decent co-op mode - Too much jumping may end up being tedious and frustrating - Gamepad and keyboard default configurations are terrible - Controls are slightly stiff, it's definitely noticeable - The extras are pointless (e.g., special moves, store, mixing items, dancing) There are some special skills and features. You can run and punch harder, punch harder upward, use items and dance. Mastering these special moves will only give you a slight advantage, since punching harder does double the damage. Items give you an edge but you need to be lucky to get what you want. You can also buy, sell and mix items, and can start a level with one spendable item. Honestly I find it pointless, just gives a small advantage. Dancing doesn't really do anything useful, just gives you points. The male and female characters seem to be identical, you won't really notice any significant difference. So basically you can only really rely on your skill and luck, like virtually all other arcade games. The graphics are fine though a little modern corny in my opinion, but not too much. I think it's kind of obvious what they were going for, but that's up to the player to decide (if you know what I mean). The animations are nice and go with the flow of the entire game, so nothing really pops-up as strange, it's overall seamless. That isn't easy to achieve in a game, so points for that. There is one particular major flaw in the game, Owly. The idea is that you can store one item for later use, but it's so cumbersome that you might as well not use it all. The only reason you may use Owly, is if want to store an item for later use, like a boss. With a gamepad, it's mapped to the B button, so it's possible that you will call him by mistake, depending on how you expect the buttons to work. You need to think fast so that kind of mistake has a high cost. It's one of those games were modern controllers don't fit very well. A keyboard is a lot easier to use because the keys are lined up. The default keyboard configuration is terrible though, so you should change to the Japanese scheme, arrow keys and ZXCV. Personally I would ditch Owly altogether, but that's just me. The other major flaw isn't obvious, but it's definitely there; too much jumping. Jumping is not fun, it's very tedious. In this game not only do you have to be constantly jumping to avoid enemies, but you also have to perform perfect double jumps to hit enemies flying almost at the top of the screen. There are way too many enemies flying too high, some high enough that you can't even get there. Not only are flying enemies harder to kill, but it gets a lot worse if you don't kill them on time. If you take more than 60 seconds to finish a wave, Death shows up and to kill you in one hit. Witches are always on flying range, but never get down, and if you wait too much time they will invoke 3 frogs. It's a subtle major problem but it's most likely the main source of frustration of negative reviews. Other than that there are some small gripes. This is one of those games were you take damage whenever you touch any enemy. Added to that the kicks and punches don't have much range, it's too small. This means you have to get close and personal, but not too close, all of the time, including with flying enemies. There's zero room for mistake. To compensate enemies drop life items, so you do need some luck. Another small gripe is the game is slightly stiff. It's not enough to be a major flaw but it's definitely noticeable. Once again, these problems end up being fixed by exclusively using a keyboard. Controllers, even with decent d-pad, simply are not precise enough. If you like arcade games this is a game for you. This means retrying the same level over and over again until you beat it. It can be frustrating. If you don't have patience, stay away from this game.

This game is very simple and straight forward and i think a lot of people were xecting much more from it. The game is just small arenas where you have waves of enemies with limited time to kill them otherwise an invincible enemy will appear. 👍 The Graphics are fantastic, background are super detailed and they look amasing, the sprites and animations are super dynamic and it's overall so good looking 👍 The combat feels very good, controls are very precise and let you do some pretty cool moves with very less buttons to press 👍 The music is fantastic 👎 The game is VERY HARD, the first few levels are pretty alright and then the game has a very big spike in difficulty (as of right now only 2.1% of people have reched the achievement for finishing the game)
"Curses 'N Chaos" is a challenging low-res pixelated arcade beat-em-up starring two fistfighters in a classic fantasy setting trying to get rid of the mark of death that an evil warlock has put on them. The spritework and animation is really gorgeous, the tunes are catchy - alas - the sound could use a little more bang. Your moveset is VERY limited and hits must be quite precise, for you cannot stun enemies and some airborne baddies require on-spot-timing to hit. Thus gameplay revolves around memorising the different enemy spawns and patterns and taking them out as fast and as efficient as possible while picking up items that can give you an edge, but are usable only to a certain extent (plus you can only carry 1 to 2, or you "juggle" them to keep them from disappearing). Also the whole ordeal is to create an antidote for your curse with said items and gold along the way (with a peculiar crafting system) which can get a little grindy. These "caveats" (no offense) makes the game somewhat niche and explains the polarising reception, but I found myself enjoying the challenge, carving my way through the different waves per level, minimizing damage and hoping for a potion drop. Best of luck for you if you want to 100% it (i.e. score-run it) for you have to be nigh perfect to hold all these no-hit chain-combos! Unique fun, even if it is a tough pill to swallow.
Excelent game. I hesiteted a bit to buy because of the "mixed" rating, but am glad I got it. Gameplay: Fast pased and responsive, the enjoyment comes from mastering it to get longer combos. Levels are bite-sized which favours the appeal of replaying them for better scores. Enemie tipes are introduced at a great pace so that they never feel cheap. Graphics and Music: What drew me to play the game. The backgrouds are gorgeous and the sprites are adorable and also very readable for gameplay purposes. The music is pretty good chiptune and goes well with the energy. Macro game design: A store and crafting system give you a reason to strive for better combos, since they give you more money. You need to climb the crafting tree to reach the true ending. I was weary this would reward grinding, but items are farly small single use bonuses in gameplay and high combos give far more money than mindlessly grinding early levels, so it is designed as to keep the game all about skill. Drawbacks: There are reasons to downvote the game if it isn't as up your alley as it is mine. There are weird oversights, like the game only autosaving as you leave a level, so you can buy and mix a bunch of items before closing out through the main menu only to find that progress was lost. The end cutscenes are also glitchy for many players. I legit thought it was stylization for the bad endings, but the good ending was the glitchiest of all. Real shame, they seem like very easy fixes, but didnt keep me from really enjoying the game. This is the first game on steam I get every achievement in.
I want to like this game but its all punishment with little reward. Base attack just doesnt feel right, you can do a slight, but VERY expensive upgrade that is... a consumable item that works for 1 life. Roguelites and arade games have time limits to prevent players from camping and grinding, to force them to do dangerous and fun stuff. This game just spawns floating grim reaper to make dealing with leftower enemies more annoying or outright impossible. There are flying enemies and ground enemies, flying enemies are hard to hit because jump attack is pathetic diagonal down hit and ground enemies are hard to jump over because sky is constantly filled by flying enemies. Your "mach 5" attack is useful against level 1 frogs, gonna make you lose 1 heart with all other enemies. There is a metagame with alchemy, but if you cant upgrade your guy than game is not worth suffering through.

After quitting the game properly, I noticed that I lost the object I crafted. I even didn't have the name anymore. it's just like lost... The game is not easy, the hit boxes are okay but not as good as Hollow Knight or Nine Sols and so you will probably be frustrated... The game is maybe better later, after a few hours, but when you need to grind money and you lose an object, for me, it's not a good thing. Perhaps I just got unlucky.... ---{Information}--- Template source: https://github.com/Lemrac/game-review-evaluation-sheet Curator page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38087514/
What a terrible and frustrating game. *The difficulty does not scale for singleplayer. Forcing a player to deal with way too many threats at once. *Your character has a terrible, weak, short range melee attack as his basic and main attack while also having a huge hitbox of his own. Meaning getting in close to deal damage probably means taking damage yourself. *You're on a timer to kill everything before death shows up. And if he shows up he can one shot you and start taking precious lives away from you like they were candy. This is particularly terrible when dealing with extremely durable and hard to kill bosses. *There is lag is this game. Frame-rates love to dip from time to time and this can make controls unresponsive. And this is a game that you need very tight controls. *Finally the game loves to place it's hardest and most irritating enemies way up in the air where it will require the maximum of your double jump to reach them. And it takes up to three hits to kill them. So while your spending all your time trying to reach and kill them because they are the biggest threats, all the other enemies are building up and overwhelming you. And they don't just like to throw these enemies at you here and there. Oh no. they give them two to three, four, five at a time and then replace them with three, four, five more when you kill them. Because I love to jump as high as I can with short ranged melee based characters. Nope, the premise is good. The art is wonderful. But as far as gameplay and difficulty is concerned I don't think the devs tested this game for ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
ta bueno
Fun combat that isn't just mashing. Timing, evasion and items are important. Cool story idea
