Curious Expedition ist für mich eines dieser Spiele, die auf den ersten Blick etwas unscheinbar wirken, aber sehr schnell eine ganz eigene Faszination entwickeln. Es verbindet Erkundung, Risiko, Ressourcenmanagement und Roguelike-Elemente auf eine Weise, die sich angenehm eigenständig anfühlt und erstaunlich viel Spannung aus kleinen Entscheidungen zieht. Was mir besonders gefällt, ist dieses ständige Abwägen zwischen Neugier und Vorsicht. Man will weiterziehen, noch einen Fund machen, noch ein Geheimnis entdecken, aber gleichzeitig weiß man, dass jede Entscheidung Folgen haben kann. Proviant, Gesundheit, Ausrüstung, Moral und unvorhersehbare Ereignisse greifen so ineinander, dass selbst einfache Wege plötzlich Gewicht bekommen. Genau dadurch entsteht dieser schöne Abenteuercharakter, bei dem man nie einfach nur von A nach B läuft. Dazu kommt, dass das Spiel sehr viel Atmosphäre aus seinem Stil und seiner Struktur holt. Es hat diesen leicht pulpigen Entdecker-Ton, ohne dabei völlig albern zu werden, und schafft es, Expeditionen wie kleine Geschichten wirken zu lassen. Mal läuft alles überraschend sauber, mal endet eine eigentlich gute Reise in einer Kette aus Pech, Fehlentscheidungen und langsam eskalierendem Chaos. Und genau das bleibt hängen. Auch spielerisch motiviert es enorm, weil jede Expedition anders verläuft. Man lernt mit jeder Runde dazu, versteht die Risiken besser, plant klüger und wird trotzdem immer wieder von irgendetwas aus dem Konzept gebracht. Das ist genau die Art von Roguelike-Reiz, die nicht nur über Zufall funktioniert, sondern über den Wunsch, es beim nächsten Mal besser zu machen. Für mich ist Curious Expedition ein charmantes, cleveres und sehr eigenständiges Strategiespiel mit starkem Abenteuergefühl und schöner spielerischer Spannung. Wer Erkundung, Risiko und emergente kleine Geschichten mag, sollte dem Spiel definitiv eine Chance geben.
