8/10.I highly recommend playing this before ff7 since this is a prequel The game is pretty straight forward. the puzzles were annoying at times as so the mini games overall lovely game.

This is my second Final Fantazy game, which I played after finishing the FF7 Remake. I did it mostly for the story and also because it works in VR too (just like Remake and Rebirth). There are many arguments about the order of the games, but to me it works the best after Remake, because it answers quite a number of questions I had to Remake, the backgrounds of the characters, the world, factions and so on. And it is a better story twist that way, I think, than playing this before Remake. As for the game itself it's rather bad. While the combat in itself has some interesting aspects, the way the enemies spawn and the level design makes it all feel like a pointless linear grind. Most of the levels are just paths from point A to point B, and while you're traversing the enemies will jump on you from the thin air, unless you stick to the sides of the road. The enemy variety isn't great either, so you end up doing the same fight again and again... And don't even get me started on "missions" - the most boring, uninspired grind fest ever made. But as a completionist I grinded through it a lot, and even though I was far from completing them all (there are 300 of them if not more, if I remember right) I got so overpowered that even the bosses were dying from just a couple of combos. And the regular enemies were just laughable, but at least that allowed me to finish the game sooner than dying from boredom. The main character is a stupid military guy and all the dialogues with him are forgettable and boring (except for the situps, I guess). However some details of the story, particularly about some other characters you meet in Remake, were entertaining. The graphics are much worse than in Remake, not to mention Rebirth. On the plus side the game size is just around 30GB vs Remake's 100GB+ if I remember right. So I can't recommend it, although it could be a great addition for the fans of the series, who just want to squeeze some more from it. It was also easier to set up in VR, and since the graphics are so dated it allowed me to max out the pixel density without any noticable performance impact (I'm on a high end PC though).
