Core Keeper

Core Keeper doesn't revolutionize survival games, but it knows what it wants to achieve. The visuals and audio are absolutely stellar though, and the devs do a great job giving life to the world around you. It's very much a different take on the Terraria formula. Definitely recommend giving it a go.

I'm of the opinion that everyone likes at least one of these open-world, base-building survival RPG games; it's just a matter of finding the one whose mechanical and aesthetic quirks line up with yourself and your own preferences. I'm pretty sure this one's mine. It's 2D, but top-down instead of side-scrolling. The pixel art is actually lovely, head and shoulders above Terraria or Necesse's presentation. You can play with mouse and keyboard, but playing with a controller feels natural instead of like a concession. Combat actually feels good, which is a rarity for the genre. If you somehow haven't played a survival game like this yet and you want one to try, or if other games in the genre haven't spoken to you and you're willing to give it another shot, I'd say this one's worth it.

Does nothing special but also does nothing wrong. Scratches the Terraria itch despite being quite formulaic.
