Confidential Killings - A Detective Game

Dollar store golden idol. It's just okay, and not bad, but I don't feel like I can recommend it. I wouldn't mind at all that it's so similar to the Golden Idol games if it didn't feel like such a knock-off. The writing and art is just okay. The mysteries are all solvable but often only really make sense on the surface. The game is littered with little errors and inconsistencies that don't ruin the experience individually but when all added up make it feel like rushed slop. Despite being set in and about Hollywood the mystery is centered around a stage play. But for some reason the game keeps referring to the stage play script as a screenplay, and continues to call it a screenplay even though everything else refers to the production as stage play. There's also an issue with the murders themselves not quite adding up with the solution you're supposed to find. Minor spoiler here: there's one where the murder victim wasn't actually the intended victim and was killed by accident because the murder weapon (disguised a stage prop) was delivered to the wrong person. The problem? They included the "screenplay" as a clue as well as the blocking for the scene and neither of these would provide an accident that would've killed the actual intended target. The scene unfolded exactly as scripted. At no point was there anything that would've actually led to the intended victims death. So how was that planned murder supposed to work exactly? Some of the other murders also have issues with accounting for peoples movements during and after the murder occurs. I mean you're supposed to be thinking these things through to solve the murder but it doesn't matter I guess as long as it's neither the perp or the victim. At least the game doesn't seem to think so anyway.

A Golden Idol knockoff without the creativity, intelligence, and the charm. No matter how much I want more of these games, I can't stomach one this lazily done.

A good detective game in the vein of the Golden Idol games or Return of the Obra Dinn, though I would say the cases in this game are much easier. I enjoyed the setting, artwork and overarching story. I'd like to see some additional difficulty in future games but this was fun and interesting for a few hours.

操作能不能别这么蛋疼，人名都补完了，案件里明显填人名的地方就不能直接选人吗，非得名和姓从几十个一样的颜色的词里重新选一遍。 不小心点到选好的还会直接消失变空白得重新选。 没看出本格在哪，可能我玩的推理游戏不多，反正我全程在揣摩出题者意图+暴力枚举。

I wouldn't recommend this game. A bit cliche in its story and characters and not in a fun way, and often the mechanics hinder you in ways that feel artificial.
