FBI agent Erica Reed has an uncanny talent: she can see the past and piece together how a crime unfolded. But not even this sixth sense could save her younger brother, Scott, from a brutal serial killer. Three years later, the investigation into Scott’s murder has gone cold -- but Erica’s work has only just begun.

Although it was glitchy and the movement lagged, this game hits all the marks for me. Cognition is a classic point-and-click game where you play as Erica Reed, an FBI agent who has a strong intuition ability that has slowly developed and made her able to see the past whenever she touches anything. One night, Erica got a message from a serial killer whom she'd been investigating. He kidnapped her brother, and she had to ignore her superior's advice and rush to help her. Alas, she failed to do that, and she vowed to find the man who killed her brother. Years passed, and she was still trying to find the killer, and one night, she met a mysterious woman. Would you trust her, or not? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2097560619 I loved the cutscenes' comic artwork; they did an excellent job of capturing the moments. The game's graphics are dated and clunky, but the story made me want to keep playing to find out what happens next. The soundtracks are really good, but sometimes too loud. I have to say Erica's voice actress was outstanding; you could hear all of her emotions. She did an exceptional job; the rest of the voice actors did well, too. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2097561328 The whole game has puzzles and tasks that require you to drive back and forth to solve them, but luckily, there is a fast-travel map, and you can use your phone to text your dad to get hints. I enjoyed the episodes where I could switch between two characters and solve puzzles, looking into the future and the past. It was a fun mechanic, and I found it unique. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3586465797 Erica's responses and actions create consequences, as well as shaping her relationship with some characters and her superiors; she can be diplomatic or snappy, which increases the game's replay value. The achievements are related to those decisions, as some of the characters might die because of you! Pros: +Interesting story. +Excellent writing. +outstanding voice acting. +Interesting characters. +Beautiful soundtracks. +Good puzzles. +Alternate controlling. +Fast traveling map. +Hints. +Manual save. +Steam achievements. Cons: -Dated characters look. -Laggy movement. -Sometimes the characters glitch in the 3d cutscenes. Four episodes come with a single purchase, but once you finish the episode, you'll have to exit the game and relaunch it to choose the next one. I found this tedious, and I'm not sure if my previous decisions count with the new episode. Regardless, the game is excellent if you enjoy classic P&C games, highly recommended. 10/10
I can see the fun of it, but the constant crashes ruins the overall experience.
Where the hell did this come from? I've loved and played many point&click adventures over the years. Thought I've pretty much seen them all. From the LucasArts era past Broken Sword, all Wadjeteye games to more recent titles like Kathy Rain. It's 2025 now and I had never even heard of this before. Found it in a reddit list because I literally ran out of adventure games or so I thought. It's damn good. Awesome protagonist. Erica curses when she wants to and doesn't mince words which is a huge plus for me and although she is very clearly meant to be a very strong female character I don't get many over-the-top modern feminist vibes from it all. That's a huge plus because many modern games have been completely ruined by this nonsense. She's just cool. Awesome voice-acting, setting, sound, music. The story is very interesting and dark. Crazy but believable, it is capable of setting a creepy mood at exactly the right time. The art style is unique and looks cool in my opinion, some of the character movements (like turning around) look off, kind of like unfinished placeholder animations but I can forgive that, it's such a minor thing compared to all the good this game has to offer. I'm so glad I found this. Would have been so easy to miss. If you're on the fence, go for it. It is worth your time. Can't say anything about the ending yet, I'm about to finish episode 3... hope it's not terrible. EDIT: Yeah, just finished it, last episode is kinda all over the place. The Ending is... fine I guess. It's like... so hard to do a satisfying ending anyway. Could have been better, not gonna lie but the game is still very good!
I really recommend this to anyone who likes good adventure and detective games! However, do keep in mind that the story is very intense, including some visual imagery that could upset some
i would like to recommend this game because its great except there are 2 chapters missing and i paid full price for all the chapters. no help was offered or money returned. things get confusing without these missing pieces. i know this is a problem for a lot of people who paid for this game and as of yet it doesnt seem to have been fixed. i couldnt even find a way to purchase missing chapters.....idk.....so we were all just ripped off i guess. i kept thinking they would eventually offer a solution but still nothing. pretty stupid.
Cognition is a BAD game, don't waste your precious TIME on it. Just having a bearable story and a somewhat mystery is not enough to make a game. A game must be functional to be enjoyable but if the game is abhorrently designed, then what's even the point? If you really want to experience the game, you can just watch a walkthrough on Youtube.. As I understand, Cognition is the first game by Phoenix Online Studios made in 2011 through Kickstarter for $34,000. Where did all that funding go for such a trash product? Episode 1 released after 1-2 years of development, the other 3 came out in 3 month intervals after that.. It is clear from that how rushed the game was. The game suffered from huge graphical issues, clipping issues and even greater issues with animations at launch. They claim to have patched it, but that is a BLATANT LIE. The characters clip in on themselves so hard like I have never seen before in my entire gaming life! The animations are awful and slow, truly the worst and most crippling part of the game. Point & click games focus greatly on solving puzzles and exploration, trying to investigate while being forced to snail speed is beyond aggravating!! What if puzzles are not immediately solved? Well, you have to go around and search for more clues as is staple in the genre. Bur remember, the walking animations are abhorrently buggy and slow! If each of the four episodes lasts 3-6 hours, are we really expected to crawl through all of that and waste our time!?!? It is simply NOT WORTH IT. Why did they even pick the point & click genre?? It couldn't have been because they are fans! Even for a 2013 game, they must have had played games such as "Monkey Island", "Broken Sword", "Blackwell Legacy" or "The Dig". How could they settle for releasing such a garbage product?? You know what else? Jane Jensen, the creator of the famous "Gabriel Knight" point & click games, acted as consultant during development! WTF!? They actually went and said "hey, we did a good enough job, ship it!"? WTFFFFFFF The bit of story that I played was very generic and uninspired with already some logical flaws. Not very memorable. The game is amateurish and primitive. They lack both passion and skill. Just look at their other games, absolutely no improvement or ugly mobile phone games they try to sell for $10. Most my playtime is leaving the game on while I worked, slept or was doing something else. After multiple weeks long hiatus between sessions, I keep thinking about this garbage game. I hate it, I don't want to complete it or even watch a playthrough. I am dropping this vomit trash of a game. Very strongly NOT recommended.
-Incredibly buggy -Crashes very often -Archaic UI design -Incredibly slow animation (also awful animation) The only positive is the story but guess what? I didn't get to finish it because of how often the game crashes. Very strongly not recommended.
great point and click mystery
not really vibing with the ending.
