Codename CURE: 100% COMPLETION REVIEW

If you love completing games, take a look at our curator site.

"Bomb planted, GET OUT OF THERE!!" The Source engine in all its glory! Codename CURE is a mix of Left 4 Dead's concept with Counter-Strike's gameplay, and while there's not much to it other than that, it's still a great time. There's no story, we're part of the CURE team consisting of four soldiers that go from point A to point B and plant a bomb on the way, unless it's Survival mode, to kill to your heart's content. The song that plays on the main menu is kinda nice. I do recommend this game for being a straightforward zombie co-op game with no strings attached, but it's entirely dead at this point. The bots are amazing, so much so that it's possible to play solo on Insane difficulty, but yeah, definitely dead in terms of players. It's overlooked due to being a super simple Source engine game, and to be honest, you could do even better on Garry's Mod, but it still got me hooked for an entire week.

Fun and simple class based co-op horde shooter. Each of the 5 classes have their own role to play and is fun in different ways. Something I will note though is that the game very much is based around blocking zombie spawns with line of sight, if you all stack up on each other you will die from zombies spawning very close around a corner due to nobody seeing the spawn point.
A zombie game with source graphics, perfect combo. Thank you.
Even though i have not play as much as much as other source games, i will be looking forward for codename cure 2!
Left 4 Dead, but for free Okay, but seriously though, this game is great, would rate it an 8/10, would recommend.
Codename CURE is a compact cooperative first-person shooter that builds its identity around fast zombie combat, teamwork, and straightforward mission design rather than elaborate storytelling or progression systems. Developed and published by Raptor Byte, it places players in the role of specialized military operatives attempting to contain infected areas in a devastated world. Its greatest strength is how quickly it gets players into the action. There are few distractions between choosing a role, entering a map, and fighting through large groups of infected enemies, making it particularly suitable for players who appreciate the directness of older cooperative shooters. Objective mode provides the more structured side of the experience. A squad must move through hostile territory, reach designated locations, plant explosives, and then escape before the operation concludes. Although the objectives themselves are deliberately uncomplicated, the journey between them creates the tension. Zombies can turn an apparently manageable situation into a chaotic battle, particularly when teammates become separated or ammunition starts disappearing faster than expected. The escape portion is especially effective because the objective changes from cautiously advancing through the environment to rapidly withdrawing while keeping the team together. Five classes give the cooperative design additional tactical character. Pointman, Support, Assault, Technician, and Sniper each encourage a somewhat different approach and provide specialized equipment. The system is easy to understand without becoming meaningless. Players can choose a role that suits their preferred range and combat style, while a coordinated group benefits from having complementary specialties. Equipment including conventional firearms, sentry guns, and supply resources gives teams additional ways to manage approaching hordes. The class system never reaches the complexity of a dedicated role-playing shooter, but that simplicity complements the game's immediate arcade-like structure. Survival mode strips away much of the objective framework and turns the experience into an endurance test. Waves become progressively more threatening, while intervals between attacks allow players to acquire another selection of weapons and equipment. There is deliberately no conventional victory waiting at the end, so the challenge becomes surviving for as long as possible. This mode can become repetitive faster than the objective missions, but it works well as a concentrated test of positioning, accuracy, resource management, and teamwork. Watching a carefully organized defense gradually collapse under overwhelming numbers can be entertaining in exactly the way a good horde mode should be. Gunplay has a distinctly traditional Source-engine character. Weapons are responsive enough to make mowing down groups of zombies satisfying, while the straightforward movement and uncluttered mechanics keep attention on immediate threats. It lacks the sophisticated animations, detailed enemy behaviors, and elaborate weapon handling found in more modern shooters, yet the simplicity has advantages. Combat remains readable even when numerous enemies are attacking, and newcomers can understand the fundamentals almost immediately. Violence and blood are naturally prominent given the zombie-shooter premise, but they function primarily as feedback for the constant combat rather than as the game's defining feature. Another significant advantage is its flexibility. Cooperative sessions support up to five players, but the game can also be played offline and computer-controlled teammates can fill the squad. Bots naturally cannot reproduce the coordination or unpredictability of human partners, yet their presence makes the content accessible even when a full group is unavailable. Difficulty options also dynamically account for the number of participants, helping the experience accommodate different group sizes. Online co-op, LAN co-op, single-player support, cross-platform multiplayer, achievements, Steam Workshop integration, and an included level editor further broaden what is otherwise a relatively focused package. Workshop support is especially important for longevity. The core mission designs are entertaining but limited enough that familiarity eventually reduces their tension. Community-created content gives players an opportunity to expand beyond the standard selection and makes the underlying cooperative framework more reusable. The level editor similarly suits the game's old-school PC identity, encouraging experimentation rather than treating the official maps as the absolute limit of the experience. Players interested in achievements also have an additional collection of goals to pursue. Presentation is functional rather than spectacular. Character models, environments, effects, animations, and interface design clearly belong to a simpler generation of PC shooters. The post-apocalyptic atmosphere therefore relies more on empty locations, incoming hordes, gunfire, and the vulnerability of a small squad than cinematic detail. This modest presentation can actually contribute to clarity because enemies and important combat situations are usually easy to read. Nevertheless, anyone expecting the visual sophistication or dramatic storytelling of contemporary cooperative shooters should adjust expectations accordingly. Steam Deck compatibility requires more qualification. The Steam listing does not currently provide an official Steam Deck compatibility rating for this original game, so it should not be described as formally Verified or Playable. Steam does list SteamOS and Linux support, which is encouraging for handheld use, but players should expect that controller configuration or other adjustments may be necessary. In practical terms, it is a lightweight game that may be suitable for experimentation on Deck, but its handheld experience should be considered unofficial rather than guaranteed. The main limitation is repetition. There is no deep campaign narrative, extensive character development, elaborate loot progression, or constantly changing objective structure to sustain players who require long-term advancement. Its longevity instead depends on enjoying repeated cooperative firefights, trying different classes, increasing the challenge, playing Survival, and exploring Workshop material. For the right audience this stripped-down approach is refreshing, while players seeking a progression-heavy zombie shooter may find the experience comparatively shallow. Despite those limitations, the game remains appealing because it understands its scope. Cooperative objective missions provide direction, Survival offers an immediate horde challenge, classes encourage teamwork, bots support offline sessions, and Workshop integration gives the community room to extend the experience. It does not attempt to compete through cinematic presentation or enormous amounts of content. Instead, it delivers accessible zombie shooting with a strong emphasis on cooperative action and replayability. As a free-to-play experience with an old-school PC shooter personality, it remains easy to recommend to groups looking for uncomplicated PvE action. Rating: 8/10
