Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is a great release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series. Gateway to Caen focuses on the largest, concentrated British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to penetrate the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the stalled advance moving again.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Janky and lots of "BS" moments...the AI seems to have perfect, aim-bot level aim with its units.
Szczytowe osiągnięcie serii Close Combat.
The British forces' advancing towards France in-land(i.e. such as Caen) encountering the occupied and defensive German Pzgrenadiers, Pioneers and numerous Panzers ignites excitement of capturing strategic and tactical victory points during the game and is a great experience as for a gamer to play definitely.

me and my dad been playing it, and i gotta say its some of the best WW2 gaming you can get, a lot slower than normal RTS/shooters but lots of fun.
Love this game. Probably the best is the series.
As someone who played the old CC games a lot, I like the look and the flow of the battles in Gateway to Caen. I do, however, regret some decisions regarding the UI and the lack of info during battle. It's harder than in older to keep track of your units' combat situation, overall health, ammo, etc. The lack of colour borders around your units can also make them hard to see when they're hiding under trees or in hedgerows.
This title is PEAK Close Combat. The only thing stopping my enjoyment of it is that you cannot customize your units the way you want them, as you could in every other CC that I played. Otherwise the graphics, the audio, the explosions is truly a chef's kiss. Why oh why did they decided to go the way they did in future CC is beyond me. Gateway to Caen in Stalingrad would have been THE CC game I would have want so much. Honestly Im not that interested in Op. Epsom. But a full grand campaign in Stalingrad city itself, with an authentic map of it would have been so much better. Less focus on tanks, and more focus on infantry is what we need in our CC games.
Close Combat Gateway to Caen is the last and best game made on the classic 2D Close Combat engine. Even if it’s not 3D, it still looks very real. The style and camera angle make you feel like you’re really looking over a battlefield. The maps are based on real locations around Caen, and they look almost exactly like the real thing. You can see the roads, fields and ruins just how they would have been in 1944. The combat feels very human. Your soldiers get scared, run away, or hold their ground under fire. You can’t just rush the enemy, you have to plan every move. Cover and morale matter a lot. When a fight goes right it feels great, but when it doesn’t you can see how quick things can fall apart. Gateway to Caen is not flashy or fast, but it feels real. Every map tells a story, every shot counts. It’s a great goodbye to one of the most realistic strategy engines ever made. Still today there is no other game quite like it.
This one is more realistic than the previous series in term of simulation of infantry-tank joint operations within close range fields. The difficulty level of this game is a little bit higher, too. Players must very carefully deploy their units before actual battles begin, otherwise players will soon suffer heavy casualties. The planning stage is crucial. It requires complex strategic thinking, abundant gaming experiences as well as real military knowledge. Computer generating A.i. is flawlessly smart. Players confront formidable foes in very battle and are more likely defeated if challenging settings are selected. If players demand easy gaming and quick victory, this game could be frustrating for them. If players demand challenges, difficulties or even failures in order to broaden their depth of strategic thinking. this game is truly for them.
