About
Children of the Nile™ is a unique gem of a city-building game, unparalleled in both grandeur and attention to detail.
As Pharaoh you will guide your people through thousands of years of history: from simple hunter-gatherers to the creation of an immortal civilization. Guide your people well and you will build breathtaking pyramids, explore the ancient world and wage war against your enemies.
Every inhabitant of your city is a fully developed, living person – part of an individual family and household with wants and needs. From priests to entertainers, scribes to laborers, even the royal family… everyone will need to eat and that’s just the beginning. Every block of stone that is hauled to your pyramid will be pulled by people who pray to the gods in temples of your choosing. Under your supervision, local economies will thrive as goods from reed baskets to gold jewelry will be created, purchased and enjoyed by the inhabitants of your city.
To achieve immortality a Pharaoh must look outside his city’s borders and make an impact on the world. Explore and open trade with foreign neighbors and you will have reason to build commemorative wonders that will tell the tale of your dynasty for all time. As your prestige rises so too will your ability to draw more people to your ambitious endeavors and build cities that are truly epic.
How will your dynasty be remembered?

I can't describe in words how many hours I have lost to this game and how painful it is for me to play right now.. I played this game when it first came out and had way too many "Oh ♥♥♥♥, I have to work in the morning!" moments with it. Functionally, it's still viable, but technically it has fallen way behind the times. Whoever owns this IP now, needs to wake up. You're still selling this game and taking money from people, but you haven't modernized it in any way. If you read the discussions, there are folks who can't even play the game due to CtD failures. For some, it won't even launch, let alone crash. The game does not support modern monitors, HDR or any of the modern basic graphics settings. You have to modify the .cfg just to tell the game to run in windowed mode. They released an overhaul update in ~2014 or so, it's time for a refresh. At this point, they're just stealing money from gamers who want a sniff of nostalgia, or maybe are trying to pass on a legacy to the next generation. Do better.
I want a remake.

LOVE IT! Played since its release and often replay the game, love being a pharoah, and love egypt in general, not really had issues with it, runs at 4k fine and its probably one of the best egyptian city builders i know, highly recommend it
I couldnt get into this game much until I installed the 3x walk speed hack. It really seems a lot of the game's bugs have to do with sims picks non optimal destinations and end up stuck somewhere. Making them walk faster has solved all the problems for me. The game does become significantly easier with the patch but city builder games are never difficult to play to begin with...
PLEASE SOMEONE REMAKE THIS GAME, DONT REMOVE ANY FEATURES. YOU CAN ADD THOUGH LOL
This is best city-builder about ancient Egypt you could ever find so far, with citizens/politics/diplomacy management. I have played this game as child a lot when it was released, still holding my old CD (!) Big Box edition and I'm very glad it works without any problems even on modern computers. Graphic is still good and music, oh boy, the music is soo Good and relaxing. Game also has build in map editor for scenario's/campaign so you never run out of content to play with. 10/10, Old but Gold.
Pure nostalgia and a trip down memory lane 🏛️ To be completely honest, I don't even play this game because I love the strategy genre. I play it because Children of the Nile was one of the very first games I ever tried on a computer, and after all these years, I finally decided to come back and finish it. It is amazing how a game from my childhood can still feel so magical. Watching the citizens live their daily lives, bringing offerings, and building giant monuments brings back so many warm memories. The music and the atmosphere instantly transport me back in time. If you want to experience a unique, atmospheric classic from the golden era of PC gaming—or if you simply want to relive your childhood like me—give it a try. It is a slow, soulful, and beautiful journey.
A very old classic city builder, imo only rivaled by the city builder Pharaoh itself.
Could not make it to work more stable and in a fun way. resolution + UI/text scaling can be a little problematic more so on higher res or bigger screens. it seems like a decent game, would be nice if there was a remake?
