7/10 takes a while to get into it, but its a great idle game
Cave Heroes is an idle role-playing game developed and published by VSTGames that combines dungeon exploration, resource management, character progression, and village development into a highly addictive incremental experience. Rather than focusing on fast-paced action or complex storytelling, the game centers on long-term growth, rewarding players with a constant stream of upgrades, discoveries, and achievements. Its simple presentation may initially suggest a lightweight adventure, but beneath the surface lies a surprisingly deep progression system that encourages experimentation and strategic planning. The core gameplay revolves around assembling a group of heroes and sending them into dangerous caves filled with monsters, treasures, and powerful bosses. Battles unfold automatically, allowing players to focus on managing equipment, allocating resources, and optimizing their team. As heroes defeat enemies and collect rewards, they become stronger and gain access to new areas that offer greater challenges and better loot. The gradual sense of advancement is one of the game's strongest features, as every session contributes to meaningful progress even when players are away from the game. One of the most engaging aspects of Cave Heroes is its layered progression. Beyond improving individual heroes, players also oversee the development of a growing settlement. Buildings can be upgraded, resources can be gathered, and new systems gradually unlock as milestones are reached. This combination of hero management and town expansion creates a satisfying gameplay loop where success in one area directly supports growth in another. The result is a steady feeling of momentum that keeps the experience rewarding over dozens of hours. The game also offers a variety of customization opportunities. Equipment upgrades, character enhancements, special abilities, pets, and collectible bonuses allow players to tailor their strategy to suit their preferred style. Different combinations can significantly affect performance, encouraging experimentation and giving players reasons to revisit older content in pursuit of more efficient builds. The abundance of unlockable systems ensures that new goals are constantly appearing, preventing the progression from feeling stagnant. Another notable feature is the prestige-style mechanics that become available later in the game. Instead of reaching a definitive endpoint, players can reset portions of their progress to gain permanent advantages, opening the door to faster and more powerful future runs. This design choice is common in the idle genre, but Cave Heroes executes it effectively by ensuring that each reset feels valuable rather than frustrating. Every new cycle introduces opportunities to push deeper into the caves and overcome previously impossible obstacles. Visually, the game embraces a straightforward and functional style. Character sprites, interface elements, and environments are simple but clear, prioritizing readability over graphical spectacle. While it lacks the visual polish of larger-budget RPGs, the clean presentation serves its purpose well and allows players to easily track the numerous systems operating simultaneously. The soundtrack and sound effects are similarly modest yet effective, providing enough atmosphere to support the gameplay without becoming distracting. Where Cave Heroes may divide players is in its reliance on incremental mechanics. Those who enjoy active combat, story-driven adventures, or highly detailed visuals may find the experience repetitive. Much of the enjoyment comes from watching numbers increase, optimizing builds, and steadily unlocking new content. However, for fans of idle games and progression-focused RPGs, these very qualities become the game's greatest strengths. The constant flow of rewards and upgrades creates a compelling sense of accomplishment that makes it difficult to stop playing. Overall, Cave Heroes successfully blends idle gameplay with RPG progression and management elements to create an experience that is deeper than its appearance suggests. The combination of automated adventuring, village growth, equipment collection, prestige systems, and long-term strategic planning provides a satisfying loop that remains engaging over extended periods. While its presentation is simple and its gameplay may not appeal to everyone, it delivers exactly what fans of incremental RPGs look for: endless progression, meaningful upgrades, and the satisfaction of turning a small group of adventurers into an unstoppable force. Good game.
Was fun for a while, but it turned into a real slog. Much like some others in this genre, it does a bad job of making progression feel rewarding because each incremental increase does not feel like it has any weight. I liked the graphics. The concept is solid. The systems are interesting enough. I just didn't really feel like I was accomplishing anything after the first while. That's the death knell for me because it turns into that feeling of wasted time rather than accomplishment and fun. On a side note, I didn't see a single update to the game that I can recall in the entire time I was playing. I don't know if it's abandoned, but it gives that feeling.
Bonito.

Not really an idler but more of a simulator with idle progress "opt out of info" is a relic said from dev from mobile version LIKES AND DISLIKES really liked the idle game it gets less and less active as you progress and most of time its just running game in the background the progression also feels rewarding and constant, but the annoying part, I dont really like though is the events which require hrs of focus and need to be done frequently (2 or more times to unlock stuff) but their cd is 10 days and theres 5 events and some seasonal ones(similar to idle apocalypse but this is wayy better and its on pc! the only similarities is the annoying events gameplay loop is not rly similar at all same with features) GAMEPLAY: its main focus is heroes grinding enemies and theres tons of stuff u do to do that!(I dont really want to spoil) when your stuck u just wait for more equipment(you unlock this really quickly but theres qualities and lvls) or grind but the main strat to progress is just stack rage with divine aid(also unlocked instantly) /patiently wait and run around the map for it to restore OR grind materials, dark mana or equipment! really like the game compared to how unknown and dead it is at cave 267 :) DOWNSIDES a downside is how dead the community is though which makes finding help or getting information hard but if u go through discussions u can always find it!
