Cassette Beasts is a very good Pokémon-style monster collecting game, but it has some frustrating design choices that stop it from being great. The biggest issue is that the game can feel quite grindy. Enemies scale with your level, which makes levelling up feel less rewarding. You can turn scaling off, which is a good option, but the problem is that some enemies and quests still scale regardless. I would have been completely fine with scaling being optional, but having parts of the game ignore that choice feels inconsistent. The main feature of the game is its environmental puzzles. Many areas require you to use monster abilities to reach new locations, similar to Pokémon's HM system, but taken much further. This can be very satisfying when you figure things out yourself, but it can also become frustrating because quests do not always clearly explain where to go or what ability you need. The game is so open that I often spent a lot of time wandering around or looking up guides. Since Cassette Beasts is not as popular as Pokémon, finding specific solutions can sometimes be difficult. The combat is one of the game's strongest points. It follows the Pokémon formula but adds a lot more depth, especially with its expanded type system and move effects. Type advantages are taken much further, with many different types and interactions where attacks can have unexpected effects, such as healing or buffing an enemy instead of simply dealing reduced damage. Rare versions of moves and stickers also add a lot of customisation. The monster-catching system is excellent. Being unable to accidentally defeat monsters while trying to catch them removes one of the most annoying parts of Pokémon-style games. The early game also has some unnecessary restrictions. Being limited to only a small number of healing items is annoying because you do not heal after every battle. This becomes much better later when the limit increases, but it makes the early game more tedious than it needs to be. The late game is where the game improves significantly. Once you unlock travel abilities like flying and swimming, exploration becomes much smoother. Flying especially makes many environmental obstacles almost irrelevant. The music and art style are excellent, although the battle music is reused so often that it becomes repetitive. The combat also has an interesting twist where losing a monster damages your character instead, and you cannot heal this during battle. This can make longer fights or dungeons frustrating, especially when teleportation is unavailable. One interesting feature is that the final quest is randomised, meaning you cannot simply search online for the solution. You actually have to solve the puzzle yourself using the clues provided, which is a nice change from many games where the answer can just be copied from a guide. Despite the negatives, the positives outweigh them. At its core, Cassette Beasts is still a fun Pokémon-style game with enjoyable combat, collecting, exploration, and team building. I spent around 35 hours playing and still had plenty of late-game quests and content left unfinished. The game also has online features where you can team up with other players, although I have not personally tested them. Steam Workshop support is another nice addition, and while there are not many mods available, the existing quality-of-life mods are a welcome bonus. Cassette Beasts is not perfect, but it offers a lot of fun for the price. If you enjoy monster collecting games, this is definitely worth picking up.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Oldhead pokemon fan here, that has felt disconnected from the last few mainline titles. This game feels like what I was searching for for years from that franchise. Engaging gameplay and story, monster designs are fun, and the OST is amazing. Disappointed in myself for sleeping on this so long. If you are considering this game even a little bit, I highly recommend.
Best creature collector game I have ever played. I can't wait for Cassette Beasts 2. I really liked the mystery and cozy island, with its own weather (even fog!). The music really sets the tone too. The combats are really strategic, not just water deals double to fire, but maybe fire melts plastic and it has some extra effect. The story was nice too, and the beasts are cool because there are many, but not too many. They learn attacks in a very nice way and they can fight up to 3 vs 3 and even fuse. There is a post game "endless" battle system, which is something a game like this cannot go without.
Just a great time man. Everytime I come back to play the game it feels more awesome than the last. I'm writing this after beating the game 3 times and 1 failed permadeath and nuzlock save. 14 minutes before the finale on the most recent game I found out "Crumble" existed. You never know truely everything about this game, and that mystery makes me keep coming back. Do not get this game if you procrasinate, because this definetly contributed to that for me. If their is a sequal I'll shave my head bald Edit: Piers is exempt. Don't buy it lol. Edit 2: ♥♥♥♥
Play This Game; I Don't Care How.
Cassette Beasts is, for my money, one of the best games to come out of 2023. It took me a while to beat due to real life responsibilities and the like, but that only made me enjoy it more when I was able to come back. The mechanics are solid and they're explained pretty thoroughly every time they're introduced. The soundtrack rips, and the monster designer didn't get paid enough, especially with the Fusion mechanic. I was never bored while playing Cassette Beasts. I've heard some folks bandy the words "Pokemon Like" around the game, and, while there's a monster collecting base to it, I don't readily agree. It uses type matchups to promote interesting effects and has had more thought and love put into it than just calling a "Pokemon Like" can convey. The story is heartfelt and you can really grow to care about the people of New Wirral like in many great RPGs. I can't recommend Cassette Beasts highly enough, and it's my sincere hope that Bytten Studio has another game in the chamber - whether that's a new Cassette Beasts or a completely new IP. Because, in the words of the game itself: It's okay to be uncertain, 'cause I'm certain it's fine to be floating her for a while with you, wherever we are now. I may come back and clean up the review, but I wanted to get it out while I could. Peace and Love, everyone.
gam good
The only thing better than the gameplay is the music. You can customize almost everything - the monsters can be any type, the moves can be fused to make stronger skills, and the story is excellent.
Best 16 hours of using the same attacks over and over and warping back to town every other battle to restock on heal items I've ever had.
